This is one of the funniest performances I have seen of Venom :-) Especially "Too loud.."......It's like both the band and audience goes nuts when the track starts. After that, they play way out of sync, but still manages to keep the aggression running! Venom are really something for themselves!
I remember being into metal during this time. There was fuck all else on TV / radio and I remember thinking the sound and lighting are a shite, but better than nothing. Venom were one of the true metal bands during a time when it was saturated with corporate rock bollocks.
if i remember rightly, Lee Aaron band followed and they looked visibly shellshocked after this performance. Whilst it has provided fantastic nostalgia and a 'back in the day' vibe, ECT was a shambles - a programme much needed on TV but whoever thought of its format should be shot. I saw every episode and got my mate to video them as we didn't have a VCR but those weird dancers, no presenters, a Sci-Fi theme.....mmm
I was at this, i am ashamed to say. In fact you can repeatedly see my leather and stud clad arms in front of the centre camera most of the time. Watching it now it truly is dreadful, although I loved Venom back then.
@legojunk53 because it is truly awful nonsense. no power, weak treble only guitar and Cronos appears to be wearing a crop top!!! But it's fun, deffo good fun, but probably not for the reasons they intended :)
@brightontwit Yeah, this performance seems pretty bad, have to admit it. Cronos seems so off too, guessing he's almost lost his voice. But still you're lucky to say you did see Venom
@legojunk53 seen 'em twice, also on the 'Alive in 85' tour, still got Abaddon's drumstick and some of Mantas' Sharkfin plectrums from a gig.. Loved them at the time, but find them laughable now. But as people say, they started a whole genre of music and, despite being dreadful musicians, they were hugely influential. Are they even still going?
@brightontwit Yeah they're still going, but it's only Cronos now. I've never seen them live but everybody says that they (or Cronos and friends) are a lot better live now. They're releasing an album in August or September this year actually.
Lol i find all the assholes giving them negative comments hilarious, you think Venom give a shit what you think? Lol might as well be complaining at a deaf person, they don't care, to them its not about talent, its about the show, and their shows were great, they had everything, who cares if they aint "great" musicians, they created Black Metal
While many fans and musicians see Venom as an important band, others disagree. In his Black Flag tour diary, singer Henry Rollins wrote about a 1986 performance when Black Flag opened for Venom. He opines that Venom were "Weak, weak, weak" and that "the guitar player was so bad it was painful" and "They were hilarious. It was like seeing Spinal Tap ... I expected them to go into "Sex Farm Woman" at any second."
@Deathkiller255 dude i dont know how can a stupid idiot like you is listening to venom, hey man dont be so stupid if you dont like it just walk away quietly,i bet your momy used to take you to mcdonalds for breakfast, lunch ,and dinner all week long.that can problably explain why you are like that, you hated it so that you still go there by yourself,oh and by the way when you try to buy a pair of shoes try not to get them a bigger size so try to get something that really fits, venom is awsome
1st time seeing VENOM, this shit kills, spent $50 on Amazon buying DVD and also EXDOUS DVD. 3 hours of youtube watching this night. Fuck other people and wish it was 1985 again. Long Live BLACK METAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Crono's voice was totally gone for this show. He must have been swigging too much jack daniel's backstage. Sound quality sucks, not because of venom, but TV producers have no clue how to mic up heavy/extreme bands properly.
I remember seeing them in 84 on CH4 The Tube with Muriel Grey , and everyone was laughing at them, even the Judas Preist and AC/DC fans were laughing at them, but maybe they were just a bit ahead of their time ?
Venom is one of my favorite bands and Cronos (Conrad Lant) is one of the top 5 best front men ever.
But god damn this video is pure garbage and comedy. For the first 3 minutes I cannot tell who is fucking up the song. And then the whole mayhem with Cronos' bass and mic. Hahaha. Man these guys are the best. So anti commercial with a twist of good humor.
Don't be that stoopid... of course venom started it... Metallica made thrash metal a new genre in heavy metal... But after Cliff's death they blew everything up!
They still make me laugh after all these years. The time-keeping, attitude, but they were at the beginning, RRESPECT for Conrad and Co. Personally, I see VoiVod or even Celtic Frost as more influential (listen to any of their albums, 20 years later and they don't seem outdated). And stop fighting like girls about genres and shit like that.
@Aeoen you have to remember these guys were fucking huge and they were headliners....its surprising to me and a lot of other musicians that played music in that era that they completely disappeared.......
Before I say anyhting, I love Venom, and I even remember seeing this when it was 1st broadcast. Watching it now, tho, I have to say this performance just sounds like an absolute mess musically. Honestly, Cronos seems to be losing his voice and the playing's just all over the shop. No disrespect, tho, it's still cool as fuck, and Cronos will always be the king of thrash!!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
uhm sorry technically the band that brought thrash into this world is Metallica and more importantly James Hetfield...they're the kings of thrash..not slayer
that's grand...by like what a few months? Metallica formed before Slayer...Metallica brought the whole complex style of music into this world that is so much more recognized and loved....
this is my opinion...i understand there are tonnes of Slayer fans out there and i respect their work...but i do believe Metallica brought thrash to what it is today
I believe Slayer does predate Metallica as far as formation goes, but as far as thrash goes, Slayer became a thrash band BECAUSE of Metallica. Tom said they heard "Hit The Lights" and it changed everything for Slayer, so they wrote "Aggressive Perfector", plus, Dave Mustaine taught Kerry King a lot.
PowerSlave: You are a idiot and dont know your history very well. MotorHead brought Metal to the U.S. and Venom was much more influential for Metal then Metallica ever was. Metallica merely got famous but they didnt begin anything...
LiamHedonic: Your a idiot too..true influence? Metalicca merely copied and got famous in the process, they didnt "invent" anything. Venom on the other hand were truly originals...If you count commercial success as being "influential"..then you truly are stupid..probably a mongoloid...
Metallica "copied" just as Venom had. It's called an influence. Now if you're talking about ripping off riffs, I can't easily point to both bands. There's a Led Zeppelin riff in "Warhead", and there's a Venom riff in "Seek & Destroy", so what?
Yes Liamhedonic, you are indeed a idiot and obviously your mommy and daddy didnt pay enough attetion to you. Metallica...copied the style..Nobody can be more influential then the people who created the shit..You call Scorpions heavy metal? Maybe you should go look what Metallica says is their main influence... MOTORHEAD you fucking cock gobbler. Metallica are huge because their the "commerical" version of heavy metal...You probably like Britney Spears too dont you? Go back to the nob ya sissy.
Shut the fuck up, you are 35 years old and you sound like a teenager & spell/punctuate even worse than one.
My favourites include deicide, slayer, godflesh, pantera, down, akercocke, acid bath, angel witch, venom, metallica, mayhem, and a whole bunch of other bands heavier than fucking LOS LONELY BOYS, you fucking joke.
Saying nobody can be more influential than the progenitors (quick, you better look that word up you thick fuck) is bullshit, otherwise we might as well credit rob johnson for everything
Scorpions were heavy metal. You don't know enough about heavy metal, obviously. Forget "Rock You Like A Hurricane", I'm talking about "He's A Woman, She's A Man" - you can hear wear Angel Witch came up with "Angel Of Death"
Ur a dumb-ass! Who doesn't know shit about metal! Venom influence Metallica!! Hell, the begining to "One" was influenced by the song "Buried Alive"....And again ur a dumb-ass Metallica haven't been a "thrash" band since the "Justice" album..they went on to make alternative music and even a fuckin country song(Mama Said)!! So, yes in that respect..Slayer are the kings of thrash!! Country Song < PURE THRASH FUCKIN METAL SONGS!
you stupid cunt, have you even heard every slayer album? Diabolus in Musica is NOT a thrash album.
Face it, Metallica are the seventh biggest selling band ever. Even though selling more doesn't always mean you are better, it does mean your music is being heard by more people.
If your music is heard by more people, it influences more people, therefore IT IS MORE INFLUENTIAL.
Anyway if you think "Teacher's Pet" is better than "Orion" by Metallica, you need to get fucking laid. Badly.
I wouldnt go around telling people they need to get laid Liam..Maybe if you pulled your dick out of the farm animals your fucking you would understand Sinisters Comments.
A devildriver fan and an old man who argues with kids on the internet & can't spell? I'll tell the both of you to get laid with a straight face thank you very much
You dont think Diaboulus in Musica is not thrash..??? Your on crack if you think that. Diabolus is heavier then anything Metallica ever played. And if your talking about influence I would think Motorhead & Venom were more influential to early metal then Metallica. The only thing they really did wasto break out of the underground schene first. Real influence is not in album sales you idiot. You think Britney Spears in going to be influential? Get off the crack jack.
Metallica hardly brought thrash into the world. Thrash began in Europe and was around quite a while before Metallica even formed. Metallica the kings of thrash??? You are indeed on crack.
I mentioned the video I have from MuchMusic TV? Well I plan to upload that clip as well, don't see it here yet... it is a better performance of Die Hard IMHO
