ok, does every youtube comment section have to turn into a political forum? It's a parody. It's funny because advertizers act as if diamonds are more important than anything else in life, and let's just leave it at that. Africa and it's political mistakes need not even be brought up
I almost feel bad for laughing at that. But I guess it's funny because companies do act like diamonds are THAT important, when they're really not worth that much, as the abundance in Africa has shown us. They're certainly not worth human lives.
De Beers is and always has been a monopoly. They have stopped buying blood diamonds (it's bad for business). Anyone who tells you their market practices are on the up and up, however, is lying.

hi Guys, just to straighetn the record. De Beers no longer operates as a monopoly (that was abandoned about 15 years ago) and does not inflate the value of diamonds any more than any company that markets a brand. Also, they don't buy blood diamonds. I met some De Beers guys recently and was really impressed at how hard they are working to stop blood diamonds getting onto the market. All De Beers diamonds come from mines operated legally and employing thousands of people.
For someone who understands the context this is an excellent vid, but it doesn't do anything to inform viewers who are unaware of a)blood diamonds, and b)deBeers' artificially inflating the value of gem diamonds. Diamonds really aren't that valuable - deBeers has warehouses full and they dole them out slowly to keep the cost high. Just try to resell a diamond and you'll see what I mean.
I'd love to see these guys produce another parody that does a better job of explaining these issues.
The video is great, although people seem to be a little confused. Just to clear it up De Beers is a notorious company for buying conflict diamonds that help fund wars in Africa. So next time you buy diamond jewelry make sure the store has a Kimberly process certificate that basically says the diamond you are buying is conflict free.
Sad that something so meaningless and hard to find is worth so much to us.

Or that women don't care if you kill their kids as long as you buy them shiny crap, which is an insipid, sexist, and trite attempt at humor.
If this video is an attempt to make a point about conflict diamonds, it doesn't make that point very clear at all. It just looks like the guy's sawing through a wet dishrag.
are you an idiot? it's satire. Those insipid commercials try to suggest that diamonds are the purest way to a woman's heart, last forever and are the truest and only way to show your emotion. so regardless of having your kids hacksawed, you're still going to fall in love all over again because of a diamond. some people are just dunces.
or maybe what they were saying was hacksawing your kids is fun! that probably was the real point. i'm going to do that right now!

mb555, i know it was satire but it was bad satire. there are certain things that just aren't funny.. and murdering children, regardless of hysterical context, is one of them.
considering the human misery inflicted upon Africa by the diamond business, it seems more than a touch prissy to get upset about some fictional children being killed in a satirical piece highlighting the unpleasant nature of diamond advertising.
awesome video! Good job :)

De Beers is the reason people in Africa are slaughtered over diamonds. Anyone who tells you otherwise has drank the company's Kool-Aid.

@pootymcpoots I actually thought the ad was an allegory for the price of diamonds.
