My friends and I did this on new years eve. We were setting off some fireworks, all safe and responsible, then we decided, screw it, lets throw them at the frozen lake. They left really neat trails that could be seen in the flashes. Some skittered over the ice, some bounced off the ice, and some made the most amusing bubbling noises as they shot under the ice. The little spinning ones were some of the best.
