And if you would have made the pistons press down into the water, you could have made do with one line of redstone to that switch.

But thank you for showing that way to power the pistons, was struggling with that myself, but changed the direction instead myself.

-Way- cheaper, only a line on top of blocks to the side of the pistons.

charcoal, always make trees for charcoal.

have water push em from one corner of the bottom layer to the other and make a hole there instead.

And for added control over hurt, have a sticky piston bring the hurt.

(suffocate em for some count of seconds)

If you want the splash potion to work properly, all the mobs have to be on a 1x1 block when they fall.. that way they are not in water and the splash damage is always at the center

Jevin, put a dispenser over the place you throw the potions in with options in it hooked up to the same button as the one that blocks the water. it will be fully automatic.
