  • Red, easy.

  • DOGSO, it's the right call.

  • crap call

  • ... I also see the red here and understand it. IMO, this wasn't a clear-cut obvious goal scoring opportunity due to the angle the player was running and the placement of the defenders. But the ref was right on the play and the push may have been what sold him on the offense.

  • I can see the point of both the ref and the offender here. But as a ref i would say if the ref calls this as a foul, he has little choise according to the rules. The offender is the last man, and thats a clear red card according to the rules.. But seing as there are multiple defenders close the ref could have called this as a yellow since there is a chance the attacker would have been caught.

  • I believe that cal was right: Last defender, clear goal opportunity...

  • The referee got it right, the foul met all the requirements of DOGSO. Sorry that it happened, but it is a send off.

  • correct decision

  • Last man foul. So the rules are clear in this point. Red card!

  • no matter what rules or guide lines, it is a red card offense, for what he did anyways.

  • i would of given a red card because the player had a great run

  • I have to agree as a div 3 ref in Denmark..If the ref gives the free kick he has to give a red card as its the last player making the foul.

Whether or not its a free kick is hard to determine, but from my point of view it could be given, therefore the red card is explainable.

  • i would also issue a red card. you pushed him in the back to make sure that he went down and fell. the distance to the goal and the fact that you are the last defender makes it an obvious goal scoring oppertunity and so yes a red card is appropriate. good call

  • If you watch the slow motion you see him falling before contact was ever made if anything he fell into the carded person

  • he was regaining control and then number 11 grabs him and makes him fall down

  • @penske89 Sorry man, this ref got it right. as minor as the contact was, it denied an obvious goal scoring opportunity. Direction of Play-toward the goal; Distance to the Goal: about 20 yards or so out; Distance to the ball: at the feet of the attacker; number of Defenders: only you and the keeper. But notice how the only ones who thing it should not have been a send off or not usually referees like us. Good luck!

  • @Veitzel Thank you for being smart...from one ref to another.

  • Denying an Obvious Goalscoring Opportunity

    Criteria (the 4 D's):

    1. Distance from Ball: He was dribbling it

    2. Distance from the goal: He was at the arc

    3. Defenders in front of him: None but the keeper

    4. Direction: Straight on goal.

    Was it a foul? Yes.

Because there was both a foul and the presence of all 4 D's, it's a Red Card.

  • I really can't tell with the distance of the video camera. If he is in fact going down before you touch him, then I say no foul and consider a yellow against him for diving. If he doesn't start to go down until you make contact, I still say OGSO and Red Card.

  • That doesnt exactly matter. The fact that you said that it was an OGSO takes the fact that it could be a tactical foul out. Handling the ball to keep it from going into your net isnt reckless, it is quite tactical, it doesnt make it any less of a red card.

It's tough to tell what happens from this angle, but if it was a foul, then it was a correct decision. Where I come from giving a yellow for this (if it is indeed a foul) is an easy way to fail a refereeing assessment.

  • Smart foul? So you're admitting it's a professional foul which is punishable by at least a yellow card, but since this is OGSO, it's red.

  • @stgilman10 I completely agree with you 4-D's assessment. Please remember that those are USSF guidelines, not FIFA's. Is this match being played under USSF auspices?

  • If you would like an explanation on why, let me know.

  • In all technicality, yes. That is a correct red card.
