  • Read one comment said somethin about grinding noise, another about piece of shit,,those engines are almost bullet proof. That redline on the tac,was put on the wrong place i think, cuz mine like 12 grand before i needed to shift. what a solid machine for its day.

  • I just got a 550 4 days ago. I thought the timing chain needed to be tightened because of the low rattle/grinding sound but I hear it on yours too. Guess that's just the way they sound? Anybody know what causes this?

  • @jackschumacher

The timing chain would sound clakity as it slaps around, and would somewhat quiet as the revs were brought up. Sounds to me like thats what it is. The Kawi auto cam chain tensioners suck and should be replaced with a manual one.

You will get a bit of a chop noise also at idol which is the primary chain slack. They all do it, even my 750, and it is harmless to the bike. A good valve adjustment and carb synch & clean will smooth everything out.
