@JayIvory87 I love the hard, metallic sound, and all of the suspended, quartal, and superimposed pentatonic scale vocabulary Trane and McCoy introduced. Other than the lydian augmented sounds guys like the Brecker Brothers, Dave Liebman, and Ritchie Beirach added in the early 70's, little has changed since the time of Coltrane.
first of all, i think, it's a lot about feeling, (the way you can feel the music) then a great player is, like trane is, a musician who played MOST of the times what always seemed to be the perfect chords.
i am not a musician or music student, but that is what i think about coltrane music.
@boxing1000 Technique is completely underrated, are you kidding? How are you supposed to play anything without technical ability? It doesn't matter what you hear in your head if you can't get it out.
@Bebopopotamus No I am not.You don't need Brecker like chops to be a great player of course you need to have SOME kind of technique to play at all.Get it?
@uprightbassmatt The Tune is called "I want to talk about you" but it has the same changes as "Misty". Theres a video on here that has Roland Kirk doing a medley of both these heads over the same changes.
He just lays it out here . What happened after then ? Gee, I mean from Kennedy on to the current 759 billion dollar bad drug deal . Maybe Trane saw the bad train coming and got off the boat but was screaming about it before he left . Boy , the hits keep on coming.Too bad this is unembeddable , another dissapointment after I posted it and found crap instead of this great painting of a time long gone that won't come back, however, the young quartet was refreshing once again .

Masterful!!! And what I liked about Coltrane (as great as he was), you can see how HUMBLE he was (unlike many of the musicians today).
