Born & raised in San Jose, and I love watching this video...Even from the other side of the world! Thank you Katalina for posting this video....Remember me? ha ha ha ha ha
I wanted to do exactly this - go into San Jose singing 'Do you know the way...' But when we were on holiday from England in San Francisco my partner wasn't interested, so we never got round to it. Perhaps this will have to do.
my only question is how the heck are you driving and shooting video at the same time.......i would have ended up in that guadalupe river if i tried it....ha ha
I did security for the property where the shark tank was built on. Back in 1990 when there were 2 gas stations on opposite corners. They had to remove all the contaminated soil. It was completely fenced in but I was there from 12am to 8am keeping the poor homeless people out.
I cannot even imagine TWO gas stations being on that site now! Yes, San Jose, CA (and SF!) have some SEVERE homeless population problems. I hope that they are able to clean up by the Guadalupe River--I KNOW that the homeless like to "camp" there!
I remember the Greg Khin concerts, downtown...Ah, the good ol' days of "Music In The Park", "SoFA", and jazz & blues concerts at SJSU when it was the cool place to be and people were cool with another before the dark ages of kids with their pseudo-gangster mentality causing trouble for everyone. I stopped going to those annual events after 2001, before relocating to the other side of the world.
We still like it! I am sorry if I asked you this before--where do you live now?! I really like Greg Khin's annual KHIN-Cert! I met him IN PERSON--such a NICE guy :D
I'm old enough to remember back in the late 80's as a teenager, Guadalupe river was under construction as well as the rest of Santa Clara St. There wasn't even a river...Guadalupe was barren with big rocks and tall grass with those stalky things that look liked "corn dogs" growing on them. LOL Indeed, Guadalupe has come alooooooong way from being a swamp under construction that I remember.
Hey, Katalina? Where you around when downtown SJ was under renovation back in the mid to late 80's?
No way! I only moved to San Jose, CA--two years ago!! Mid-July, as a matter of fact! Hubby and I are celebrating our SECOND wedding anniversary on JULY 8th :) San Jose IS fun...We usually attend the Greg Khin-certs--always plenty to do and see there!
I am not familiar with the world of comics...I do know that there is a GOOD COMIC book shop off Lincoln Ave. in San Jose--I think it is called HIJINX COMICS?!
I spent a total of four months twice (8 months total) in one of your jails being tortured. I saw fat pig cops beat innocent people to death. I saw pedophile judges in darkened secret court rooms. San Jose is the world headquarters for the church of satan. The place needs to be bombed now.
wtf this person sounds a lil too happy and dorky...i was born and raised in san jo and there aint nothing to do there. but i do miss it...peace???? nice way to end vid
Congratulations on you living in San Jose! This city is great... but soooooooooo expensive to live! After I finish school at SJSU, I hope I get a good job! lol
Yes, definitely plan on getting a GOOD JOB if you plan on continuing to live in THIS area! LOL! YOu are right, it is BEAUTIFUL--but Santa Clara county is NOW one of the most expensive in the STATE of CA :)
What i have seen in your video is not really the view of downtown San Jose..its all 87 freeway..and ramps.I will shoot a video soon showing the new city hall,Tech Museum,Fairmont Hotel,St Joseph Basilica, etc. and my new condo unit beside the De Anza Hotel.Coming soon.
i'm 14 and i've lived in san jose for 10 years of my life and i loved it, but we've moved to council bluffs, iowa now, also because it was too expensive and crowded. i know my mom misses san jose as much as i do because she compares alot. I will probably move back there when i'm older!
YIKES! To move to IOWA!! I bet you have PLENTY of snow there right now...San Jose has had PLENTY of rain this year. Yes, Santa Clara County is the SECOND most expensive place in CA to buy a home...#1--of course, MARIN COUNTY!
A former native of San Jose, now relocated to Texas...I still remember those dreadful commutes Monday to Fridays on the 87, worse if one had to commute on the 101 or the 280...In a twisted retrospect; I miss it at times. I also miss Round Table Pizza, which is only a California-based operation, though, I heard there were RTPs in the Northwest. I used to work at the Children's Discovery Museum as a teen; low pay, short hours, but, made lots of friends.
Crazy. Seriously, it is becoming has/and has nots in the greater bay area.
We were lucky to get a 2 bedroom in willow glen from a less greedy LL under 1000 dollars a month...a reasonable amount...but by SJ standards it was VERY inexpensive. Now we pay a mortgage fixed for 30 yrs under $1400 a month.
Would never go back. Great Mexican food and weather, not a heck of a lot more to recommend in SJ. Sorry.
Wow..Sold my house in Modesto for 400k in 1 showing..bought a house here in Southern Colorado for 155 NEW BUILT on an acre. But..again..I traded my ocean for the rockies and got ripped off. I miss home. Grandpa/ma lived in WIllow glen on 711 Willow glen way. They've passed now..and the house was sold. I miss the food and weather definately
My kids catch their school bus at the end of my driveway out here. No gangs in the school, uniforms yes. But we miss certain things from San jose. I'm a native as are my kids. but it's too expensive and crowded. that's why we left.
Yes, we just moved to Bologna, Italy here yesterday--will be here for 2 years. I miss the US already :) But will stick it out for the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity :P
sprawl, bad drivers, expensive, insane housing costs, so so to poor public transportation, .com boom destroyed the small businesses with high rents, concrete jungle, the downtown is nothing to scream about, cruisers on santa clara street adding to the pollution and traffic, oh yeah...traffic in general...etc etc. diversity and weather is good though!
Do you live here in San Jose, CA?! You should TRY to buy a house in Orange County, CA--that is where I am from...And, public transportation is EVEN WORSE down there! SMOG/pollution--FAR WORSE!! San Jose is LITERALLY a walk in the park for me, compared to "the OC"!
I am originally from San Jose. I used to like it when small businesses were flourishing downtown more. Now it is just so steril. The Dot Com boom is likely the most to blaim for San Jose's short comings now. It is by no means a BAD place to live, just not exactly character ridden, and too expensive for the quality of life it has to offer. Someday planning wil improve, hopefully less monster homes will be built--especially in the suburbs awqy from a walking business district
BTW, moved down to San Diego now (which is great), but we still have our place there just in case! LOL... oh, The Great mall is an outlet mall in Milpitas. Love that mall too and Santana Row and Valley Fair, and, and... :p
Yes, my husband and I discovered THE GREAT MALL just a few weeks ago...It DOES live up to its name! Good idea to keep a place in North. CA and one in South. CA--San Diego was ALMOST destroyed by those wildfires--I hope you are SAFE!!
Yes, I have a few friends in San Diego...I am originally from Orange County, but have been in San Jose over a year now! They are setting up Christmas in the Park :)
Cheesy song aside...I miss the 408. Born at Washington Hospital in Fremont. Moved 3 years ago when retirement struck my parents and they couldn't afford CA anymore...there's not a day goes by when I don't either think of CA or wish I were back...
Sorry 'bout the CHEESY song--LOL! I am a few yrs older than you-so...I remember when they played it on the radio...yeah, CA ROCKS :) BTW, they are SETTING up CHRISTMAS in the PARK--NOW!!! (it is NOT even Thanksgiving yet!!)
Most 'legal' immigrants are also illegal - they may have a legal piece of paper but most of them break the law - they lack the skills claimed, have fake degrees from jungles in India, and they falsely keep American workers out of the workforce. That's FRAUD and FRAUD is illegal!
wow! beautiful, i am thinking of moving to san jose soon but i have a question. Is there a significant amount of African Americans there, and if not how are they treated.
there is some, theres most over where i live (south side) over by oakridge mall, the school over here gunderson(high school) has a significant amount of african americans and they are treated equally, if you mean is there any racism forget about, theres none whatsoever
I'm so homesick. I was born at Valley Med and I went to Branham High..my kids went to Campbell Middle and now I live in Colorado. My kingdom for Eduardo's Taqueria on Winchester and Williamsburg. AWESOME AL PASTOR BURRITOS..check em out. Have one for me
Sorry you miss San Jose, CA :( We are having GREAT weather now mid-September...:) Maybe you can come visit sometime?! How long have you been in COLORADO?!
We've been here for 3 yrs. It's a major adjustment that's for sure. My kingdom for pine, citrus, eucalyptus trees, fresh seafood,JACK IN THE BOX,ROUND TABLE..we don't have those things here.
Near Morrill and Landess :D The East foothills (that's what it's called right?) are beautiful :) Kind of close to Great Mall you can say that lol :D I wish I was a little closer to downtown because there is a lot of activies held near there
Oh! Are you near Evergreen? That is a GORGEOUS community! Are you near the Eastridge Mall? Never heard it nicknamed the GREAT MALL before :) We are approx. 5 mins. away from Downtown off the 87...We will be working the Tapestry Festival on Sunday Sept. 2nd--CANNOT WAIT :)
I'm a flight attendant, and let me tell you that there is no thing more beautiful than landing in my hometown and looking out at Downtown. San Jose gives me the most comfortable feeling you can imagine. I love this city!
It IS a beautiful city, isn't it? I love Cesar Chavez Park when they convert it to Christmas in the Park--it is MAGIC...and the FREE Summer concerts--Music in the Park :)
It's cool down by SJSU. I try to avoid the $6 milkshakes @ Johnny Rockets though. I considered seeing that movie tonight as well. Did you enjoy "Superbad"? We could have gone together but you're married and I have a girlfriend.
LOL--I call it (SUPERBAD) a GUY movie, for sure! I wasn't too thrilled by all the profanity used...but my husband, he is STILL raving about it!! LMAO! Tomorrow, I plan to see STARDUST with a friend--probably more my style. Well, I take it U and your girlfriend must be in the South Bay area then! Let me know if there are any good restaurants we should try--we had dessert (shared) at ASQUEW's--new place--been there 6 months now!
Yes, I like San Jose. Hubby & I just went downtown tonight for a BIG Saturday night date...Had dinner at Johnny Rockets then saw the movie, SUPERBAD at the Camera 12 movie theatres.
oh the mighty Guadalupe river. You know there is a group downtown off of San Carlos St. that does "brown water rapids" tours of the mighty Guadalupe river!!! yes they have to push the homeless people out of the way when they reach the Julian St. area but I hear minus the Hep.B and mercury consummation it's a fun trip
Hi! Have you ever DONE this tour? Who would I contact to take part? I would love to venture forth on the "brown water rapids" tour! As a volunteer and just out of sheer curiosity! I live CLOSE to the Guadalupe...
Yes, I shall post more videos about my local neighborhood, Willow Glen area, here in San Jose, CA--it is quite BEAUTIFUL!! Tall trees and flowers and GREAT PEOPLE :)
Willow Glen is certainly a very nice community. Nice million dollar homes. ha ha. ; )
Aqui's, Willow Glen coffee, bike shop, yes...by far my fave part of SJ. Fiancee is a teacher and worked at a school nearby. Too bad the homes were too much.
AWESOME, Terry! I wish you could have joined us in SF last weekend! Someday, I want to meet up with you in person. You seem like a GREAT person! I love your msg to Ben--I MET HIM in person last weekend. Great guy--of course! Peace, Kathleen

San Jose is awesome place. I used to work in the downtown area and can say it's good times, good weather and good people.

oh the mighty Guadalupe river. You know there is a group downtown off of San Carlos St. that does "brown water rapids" tours of the mighty Guadalupe river!!! yes they have to push the homeless people out of the way when they reach the Julian St. area but I hear minus the Hep.B and mercury consummation it's a fun trip
mirandafacette 4 years ago

Tall trees and flowers and GREAT PEOPLE :)
katalina2007 5 years ago
Willow Glen is certainly a very nice community. Nice million dollar homes. ha ha. ; )
Aqui's, Willow Glen coffee, bike shop, yes...by far my fave part of SJ. Fiancee is a teacher and worked at a school nearby. Too bad the homes were too much.
