For the record, the ulna & radius in both of my arms are fused @ the elbow making it physically impossible to hold the guitar in what is deemed the normal manner. From the beginning, it was necessary for me to come up with unusual solutions for the ordinary left-hand problems faced by the majority of players. Using my thumb on the 6th and 5th strings in lieu of barring is one of those solutions. To those who are offended by the way I do things, all I can say is - get over it.

lol actually a shit ton of players use their thumb like that especially for bass runs.... i play the same way. the only reason you're taught to keep your thumb pointed at the center of the neck is because it's supposed to give your left hand more freedom to move up and down the neck but he's really not restricted at all

I don't have any idea why you think his left hand technique is off... maybe its because hes playing different chord inversions and your confused?...hes playing the barred chord without the top 3 strings and uses his thumb to play the root note... it works alot better then barred chords.. your thumb can also help you mute strings easily that arent in the chord... hmm...so what is he doing wrong again?
