  • wow this has much more emotion and feel than Sungha's version.

  • You play this song differently than me, but it works so good...

  • Чувак ты крут. Респект от чотких пацанчиков.

  • :O, AWESOME

  • legal..

  • grande el tipo.

  • a true master of his craft!!!

  • your simply the best!!!

  • is there any tabs ? can u send it to me ?

  • @bigbang0002 - I have not transcribed this out and probably never will.

  • Rick is without a doubt most underrated

  • Great Job Rick..

  • Rick Ruskin is the shit!!!!!!!!!

  • For anyone interested, my recorded work is available at CD Baby, iTunes, or my own site. (liondogmusic "dot" com)

  • sweet playing. Your really into your music.

  • you can even SEE those feeling in it!

  • no feeling?

    lol.

playing the guitar is a way to express propper feelings. if mr Ruskin is expressing his THIS way, so what? anyway... whats even wrong with it? it sounded beautiful! if i could only play like that...

  • @f20a4bb9 agreed - also consider he's playing about 3 guitar parts at once, which is a little tougher.

  • It looks like he is having a lot of fun. I think that is righteous in and of itself.

  • Pretty terrible.

  • @DrStabkill Interesting (but inaccurate) thing to say considering that your own playing sounds as "paint-by-the-numbers" as it does.

  • @mbxmny Hey thanks for checkin out my videos! But sorry if you were offended, but I really did not like this, it wasnt personal, it just seemed readl hackish.

  • @TirmaSGuitar Nice try, Spammer.

  • one word FUCKIN AWESOME

  • @bamafan6108 Actually, that's two words and I appreciate both.

  • @jpcaed I doubt that I will ever write a transcription of this arrangement out.

  • @jpcaed I've never written it out.

  • OK-ish. irra

  • Thanks for this video This guy is amazing.

  • I liked where you went with the song...really gave it a unique spin...there were moments where I could almost see the whole band on stage and yet it was just you!

    well played.

  • you get the rock gods blessing...my son

  • I liked the original better.

  • GUITAR GENIUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • ты лох

  • Bloody good show mate i enjoyed thanks

  • Who says that you can't get good acoustic tone with extra light strings now? :)

  • @gesunelson Probably the same people who get bent out of shape over the length of my fingernails.

  • Rick, I remember you performing this for us at Mark Hanson's camp in Portland in 2001. Thanks for putting up the clip. Now I can finally try to learn it :)

  • wonderful arrangement, although i cant help feeling you might have lost some of the spanish flavour of the song

  • The original version from the late 70's didn't have the Spanish flavor. Glad you like it anyway.

  • @b4ra2

    they use nylon strings

  • oh man, sooo good

  • Beautifully done! I wonder if a nylon string would have suited it better, though. Just wondering because of some of the amazing solos I've heard on Nylon string.

  • Comment removed

  • @meangreen4321, you are right, this is very good. Not sure about the nylon strings though. Sure, the song would adapt well to a nylon string arrangement, but this arrangement has a bluesy feel which sounds much better on steel strings.

  • craigsskeldon; Playing on a nylon string (classical) guitar is cheating? How so? I'm a steel-string player for the most part but your statement seems utterly ridiculous to me.

  • @mbxmny

You're so rifght. I am nylon guitar player but I started with steel-string one. I just had to switch cuz of my friend and stuff. It doesnt mean I am worse or something...

  • @mbxmny

    I agree...plus a classical has a much wider neck

  • @craigsskeldon But how is it cheating? They are just as difficult to play as one another.

  • Rick amazing piece of work. U gotta tab this song man. I'll be ur first customer. altho wuld lov it if it wuld be free LOL.

  • loving it!

  • easy

  • @Dreamdek Funny, it's always the guys who can barely play 1 note at a time with a flatpick who think this is easy.

  • @mbxmny I play with a flat pick and I totally envy people who can play like this. I have an old VHS tape of Ruskin but no VHS player. Im gonna get one so I can learn the rest of the songs.

  • Warm smell of colitis rising up through the airrrrr

    Brilliant version!

  • muito bom !!!!!

  • *O* awesome *O*

  • Very nice

  • Hotal California by Rick Ruskin well played on acoustic but would like to have the classical version. Can I get the scores of this version

  • =)~

  • Very nice work.

  • I've done this score.

  • Comment removed

  • this is a really nice rendition

  • tabs to this version?

  • Don't exist.

  • what kind of guitar is that?

  • It's a McAlister L-13. Mahogany Body/German spruce top.

  • acustic =D

  • Comment removed

  • What does =D mean?

  • look at it side ways

    it's a smiley =D

  • @RJRuskin Turn your head or screen 45 degrees (the D should be on the bottom): then you get a pair of eyes ( = ) and a HUGE grin ( D )

  • absolutely awesome

    I am jealous

  • I LOVE that its your own style, Edgar Cruz would only play exactly what he hears, but you make it much more magical and personal. 5 Stars, man! I have just started out learning fingerstyle solo guitar (im more of a blues player myself (on the electric guitar) but i have been challenged to learn this style, just finished Edgar Cruz's take on bohemian rhapsody), I might just come to seattle! Im joking, obviously, i live with friends, no job, no money, but ive got my guitars!!

  • Very nice

  • Wow, you are really amazing. Wow. You are, REALLY good.

    Again, wow.

  • Thanks. Glad you like it.

  • Comment removed

  • You can't because I've never written it out. Come to Seattle and take some lessons and I'll walk you through it. For similar material that is transcribed & taught in detail on DVD, go to: liondogmusic "dot" com.

  • crazy shit .this s so kool

  • Comment removed

  • Although it doesn't have this particular song, my instruction DVD, "Acoustic Fingerstyle Guitar," demonstrates how to create arrangements of this nature. Specifically, it shows note-for-note my versions of "Georgia On My Mind" & "Rikki Don't Lose That Number," among others (on screen & in printable TAB/Notation) to guide you through the arranging process. See liondogmusic "dot" com for more info.

  • WOW

I'm just in shock i wonder i can play that well

when he;s playing it makes me to keep practice with my guitar

    SIMPLY AMAIZING!!!!!!!!

    O_O

  • that solo gets me right off. Holy fuckkk

  • Playing guitar for so long...you must have a feeling!

Some people can feel something without showing with their faces what they feel.

He sure deserves respect. It's irelevant to say he's without feeling.

  • DUDE, YOU ROCK!!!!

  • Really awesome...I liked it very much but i think you shouldn't watch the guitar...play watching in front of you it's more beautifull to see...

  • Yeah, and get sponsors and a big orchestra behind him, FUCK YOU MAN!

Do you play (let me guess, you are classically trained and werent just talking out of your arse)

  • fretwank, Who/what are you replying to here?

  • Dude, its on the wrong page.. Is that a youtube first? my internet is kind of flawwed..

  • fuck no feeling, this is technically brilliant!

  • epic!!

  • To those of you who say it has no feeling... it's only because YOU lack the feeling, not the player. It's no ones problem but your own if you lack the wisdom to understand the beauty of music.

  • Is it wise to bash people for not having lots of wisdom?

Please don't bother me with the answer, just answer it for yourself.

  • Bashing? Mere semantics my man. You call it bashing, I don't. I made an observation and spoke my opinion. Everyone sees everything differently through his or her own eyes. And some people are just morons. *shrugs* It's just the truth.

It is really wise for others to obviously bash this guitarist without good reason?

  • epic bro!!!!! that is some sweet guitar work!!!!

  • i love how poeple get jealous, so they make up reasons, like No FEELING, it realy frekin hard to move ariound and make faces and shit when your playing something really hard.

  • if you say he has no feelin you must be absolutely retarded or have no taste in music, and if you say he doesn't then DON'T listen

  • i like his way of playing this piece

also: he has only a guitar...

    don't forget this guys...

  • agreed you have no idea

  • wow

  • epic

  • lol wow nice work this old man gretting play guitar

  • lol u guys r retarted its not susposed to be a cover really. its an instrumental he composed

  • It is a cover - his own instrumental arrangement of the original song.

  • can anyone hear such beatiful cover somewhere which's done on single guitar pls dont write dat somethings missing or kinda dat lol cuz itsnot so just listen and enjoy lol

  • original is played on 4 guitar + drums and this is single guitar which playes invlovles even solo parts so i'd this is great cover

  • great.

  • well i guess the original one is much more epic. nice try though still good to the ears..

  • Que groso loco, asi quiero tocar algun dia, estos guitarristas valen la pena escucharlos

  • Chord melody is awesome !

  • chord progresions are a little off, but def intresting to listen to.

  • You're a little off.

  • no? the chord progression really is a little off? idk why you wud take that offensively. considering i said, "but def intresting to listen to"

  • impressive!

  • sounded nothing like the guitar on Hotel California.

  • Travis....its an instrumental....there WILL be some changes.

  • Nice job. For the people saying he's doing it "wrong".... You sound really really ignorant... because not only this guy better than you are or will ever be, but there is no such thing as a "right" way to play guitar. There isn't, and there never will be.

  • Right on --

It's not "how" it's :"how it sounds"

  • good job¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡ old man ¡¡¡¡ jajajajaja \m/

  • is there a possible tab that i can find for this ? reply to me if there is one around the internet ^^ thx xD

  • Saw a Rick Ruskin instructional video years ago and became a big fan of his playing. I'd like to see him live some day...Really great musician - definitely one of the top tier acoustic solo guys around. This is a cool version!

  • Wish I could use my thumb like that.

Just the thought of forming a barre in such a manner makes my wrist sore.

Nice playing. Not everyone has to play an instrument using the same techniques.

  • guys i hate to take sides but abelcadenas is right his left hand thunb should be tucked instead of constantly up at the top (although at points he is using it to play a bass note)

  • For the record, the ulna & radius in both of my arms are fused @ the elbow making it physically impossible to hold the guitar in what is deemed the normal manner. From the beginning, it was necessary for me to come up with unusual solutions for the ordinary left-hand problems faced by the majority of players. Using my thumb on the 6th and 5th strings in lieu of barring is one of those solutions. To those who are offended by the way I do things, all I can say is - get over it.

  • kudos for doing what you had to do to play that way. i find it easier to use my thumb on the 6th string than barre chords traditionally also, but i think thats bc im a lazy rock guitarist with larger hands.

for anyone who is offended, eat a big bag of pnes

  • lol actually a shit ton of players use their thumb like that especially for bass runs.... i play the same way. the only reason you're taught to keep your thumb pointed at the center of the neck is because it's supposed to give your left hand more freedom to move up and down the neck but he's really not restricted at all

  • I don't have any idea why you think his left hand technique is off... maybe its because hes playing different chord inversions and your confused?...hes playing the barred chord without the top 3 strings and uses his thumb to play the root note... it works alot better then barred chords.. your thumb can also help you mute strings easily that arent in the chord... hmm...so what is he doing wrong again?

  • 1:16 - 1:17

    O.O

  • Classically trained guitarists keep their thumb behind the fretboard. HOWEVER, over time, many guitarists, like myself, Clapton, Winwood, Bonamassa, Lang, Mayer, Vai, Beck...and the list goes on...learn to use their thumb while playing. Much easier on long reaches or fingerpicking. 14 year old kids can't criticize 50+ years of experience. I saw Rick open for Rev. Davis in Detroit in, 1964 or 65, he must have been about 14 then! Would you tell Eric Clapton or John Mayer not to use their thumbs?NO

  • abel is showing the typical arrogance of newbies: he got to page 2 of his guitar for beginners manual, read that guitarists are supposed to hold their thumbs behind the neck, and BAM,he feels ready to trash any guitarist who doesn't fit in his schemes. This guy has been playing professionally since before you were even born, but you feel like you have something to teach him? Good technique is what makes you play functionally and comfortably. If you can do that, you have good technique. Period.

  • No technique? You do not know what you are talking about.

  • oh believe me, i know what i'm talking about, i study in a classical music school

and i'm studying acoustic guitar, he has no technique and i can tell you why, but i know you will tell "no, he has technique"

and you will insist, so better i wont say anything

  • It sounds as if you are saying that you don't approve of the way his playing looks as opposed to how it sounds. If not, what specific techniques are lacking? You should be willing to back up your original statement.

  • i never said i didnt liked the video, in fact, he's a good guitar player, and i'm talking about his left hand technique

i don't know if you play guitar, but if you do

you should know what i'm talking about

  • His left hand technique is somewhat different than the norm but it can hardly be labeled as non-existent. Can you play this arrangement with your "classical music music school" training?

    And yes, I play guitar.

  • yes, i can, and i'm not telling this is not a technique, i'm telling you that this is not the right position for the left hand

and i think we are not kids anymore to be fighting for a stupid coment right?

  • Not right according to classical guitar tradition but certainly right for what he is doing. You say you can play this. Let's hear it. After watching some of your vids, I have my doubts.

  • does he need the "correct" hand position? he can obviously play without it so why does he need to use it?

  • RSI

  • i don't like this version :)

  • wow...... thats awesome

  • how hard is this to play using 1-10 ?

    (1= easy; 10= very hard)

  • compared to most classical songs in which yu hav to finger pick, its not that hard, but compared to songs in general, its pretty hard like a 9 id say maybe an 8, idk i havent tryed playing it, but by the song of it

  • 9.8

  • 125

  • probably 8

  • thats unbelievable..!!!!5 stars!

  • sungha jung better.

  • quite the pro:)

  • Great stuff Rick, keep it going.

  • This version Rocks....Very artistic skills and strong approach...The rhythms and changes were surprising and challenging...:-)

  • Brilliant !

  • Sounds very profesional, liked the solo

  • Nice Rock

  • Nice one Rick!

  • ahahaha wow

  • great song, great feel, great fluency....

  • yea.

    ur great:)

  • well done

  • this is the only Eagles i like. GO COWBOYS!!!!
