Also you mention wanting to use a bigger turbo later on. Research and hit the S10 forums. Others have tired this learn from their mistakes (it is way cheaper!) Everyone seems to forget about fuel delivery on these at home builds. If you run to lean you can expect detonation which can destroy the bottom end of your engine block (pistions, rods, crank, etc...) quite easily.
Just commenting to help out the owner of this truck. If you pause the video at 8-9 seconds and look at the exhaust you can see that you have "Y" section in it. All of the pressure that should be going to the turbo to "spin" or "spool" it up is going out of the exhaust tip. Remove the "Y" section, have the exhaust pipe connect directly to the turbo, add the tip to the exhaust side of the turbo. Check out the site howstuffworks for turbo basics.
The only problem is you Maf, it wasnt designe to have forced turbulant air blowing thru it. So you have to make sure you have atleast 1-2ft of straight pipe going into the maf, noe corners/bend before it, or it wil mess upthe signal. You can actually take one of those tornado fuel saver things, and put it a fot or 2 from the MAF, they help. If not the turbulant air thru the maf will make it run like crap. The only othere thing to do is get a blow-thru maf, or put maf on the turbo inlet.
same with the pipe dia' from the turbo to the intake, keep it smaller like 2.25 up tlll the engine were you can open it gradually to 3" to fit in the intake. Once again, the same principal. Since the air has to travel farther with a rearmount, you want a smaller dia' to keep the velocity up, and turbulance down
oh yea, take the cat and muffler off, and feed the turbo with strait pipe back, like 3'' dia. would be good. No bigger then 3", no smaller then 2.25. The smaller dia; actually helps keep the exhasut hot and flowing along back to the turbo.
no wonder it wont build boost. Dosent mater how small the turbo, but when you have and exhaust blowing out beffore the turbo thats a problem. Put the wastegate rite befor the turbo, block of that other useless sidepipe, and i gurentte youll build boost. As long as you hook up all the vacum/boost rubber control lines to control the wastegate. Do some reseach on diagrams/info how to hookup a w.gate and turbo lines, turbo setups in general.
read all my coments i posted on the other video. Ive done lots of these systems, and had lots of stupid lil' problems like the w/gate posistion, and the vacum/boost line locatrions. Any questions on rear turbo systems, just msg me on my page. I wasthe first on in the wolr to rear mount turbo a 96 cobra. None could do it because there was no room underneath. I made a t70 fit and work!,
i had the same kind of setup for my 89 323 sohc get rid of the that other pipe exhaust should be completely sealed and never run bigger than 3" pipe youll lose boost same goes for intake tubing make sure your b.o.v. is in working condition as well you should be straight after that
My friend the solution its simple. the exhaust gases have to travel all the way back to spool that turbo. If you have an exhaust before the turbo its called a "leak" cause the gases are leaking out before they get to the turbo. So either get that leak exhaust cut off and welded shut. Or get a whole new custom exhaust that runs all the way back to spool that turbo. When you do this it will build boost. Dont forget to post new videos. Peace out.
builds no boost cuz you got a BIG leak called that exhaust before the turbo.. Full exhaust into small turbo there is an exhaust flange on the turbo itself... put your exhaust there...
I will start by saying I dont know much about turbos but.. she's not gonna boost when your exhaust looks to be free flowing out of a pipe before the turbo.. cap iff the pipe with the tip and that lil turbo should spool up in a flash!
Noob.

@bobzilla9p0 very true, but if a guy knows how to mess with map iat and oxy sensors it all comes out like a knife through butter :D

@bobzilla9p0 I was thinking the same thing... No wonder it won't build boost. LOL

He definitely needs a wastegate where that pre turbo side exit is ...pretty sure he'd be building some boost then!
soslowda 9 months ago
Get rid of that pre-turbo side pipe man. How is your exhaust pressure supposed to get to the turbo?

@oDTheTruth hats the exhaust

@jhowe67 I know that. The problem with not building boost in this setup is that its not running out correctly as it should.
