How many buding authors, sci-fi, other genres, have used any number of Rush tunes to kickstart their most creative writing. Gobson's Neuromancer, a timeless classic - read it while listening to 2112, Farewell To Kings, or this song, or Counterparts, WHATEVER, and hear the same voices in both words and music.
HOF Cleveland, be warned - history will look back a hundred years and say "This was THE BAND to induct" even beyond the greats of Zeppelin stature - and you guys MISSED IT!!
PERMANENT WAVES (1980) marked the starting point for Rush's full-blown entry into condensed, accessible progressive rock. They abandoned the 20-minute suites and mystical lyrics for catchy progressive song structures, and more human, worldly-related topics. But, Geddy Lee (vocals/bass/synths), Alex Lifeson (guitars) and Neil Peart (drums/lyrics) didn't lose their brilliance in composition, even if most of the track lengths were fit for radio. ENJOY! ;o)
The date of this concert is prophetic. Less than a month and a half later, Neil would lose his daughter to that car accident and Rush's history would take a radical turn.
Very very sad moment in their lives...if anything good came of it all, it is that they are never so close and appreciate what they have and each other in a vastly more profound way. I am so happy Neil now has Carrie and little Olivia in his life. They are a great trio and decent human beings on top of that! I respect not just their music but who they are as people. RUSH forever!
Isn't RUSH planning or planned last year a concert to play only old tunes from the 70s? I always hoped for such a concert but had they done so already I missed it. I also heard their next album might consist of new songs that are kind of the Majestic rock opera style like from Permanent Waves and Caress of steel and Fly By Night album. Who knows.. maybe it will catch on with newer bands.. if they only learned to actually play well orchestrate and dynamic music like rock bands in the 70s
Alex said this was the most challenging song to play live. He makes it look easy!
Yes, RUSH IS the greatest band ever!!! The reason RUSH is not in the R/R Hall of Fame is that the R/R Hall of fame does not deserve to have RUSH as a member.
they shouldve been in the rocknroll hall of fame ten times over by now...in my opinion seen um 5 times...sound was note 4 note everytime...and lest not forget some of these songs more than ten minutes or more...great... for nowadays respected by many bands after them...ie queensryche and dream theater.
How cool is it to be in the same band from the same neighborhood, with your best buddies? For over 40 years? When the smoke clears and the rest of the world wakes up,there will be some staggering stats. Rush should be nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize for their humanitarian work as well!
And another thing....not only do we here in Canada have the best country to live in, the best hockey players and the best comedians.....we also have the best band in the world!!!
@Jimmy1tooth you clearly don't understand "skill" in terms of music. It's not about how many records you sell or money you make or awards and honors, it's about the musical skill you possess. And Rush has plenty of skill to go around.
@Jimmy1tooth you based it on the hall of fame...which is based on nothing. the hall of fame doesn't mean anything at all (in terms of musical skill/talent, i will not say it means nothing as it is an honor to be inducted) so you really only based it on other people's opinions (that you may happen to share).
@Jimmy1tooth "better then 3 hall of fame bands?r u crazy" <<i don't see how i missed anything, other than your lack of basic grammar skills. (FYI it should be "than, not then") so all i was saying is just because those bands are in the hall of fame doesn't necessarily make them better...
@jtoshawa beatles stones suck..they were just paved the trail...u can not listen to the same songs all day..i can listen to this song all year..........rush is the greatest of all time...lyrically...the lord feeds peart his lyrics....
One of my favorite songs from RUSH! #1 band!! They are so inspirational and all of there songs send a message out! Neil Peart is so smart and so coordinated! He is the Professor!!!!!
I love Rush I think they are the greatest Proggesive Rock bands of the 70's, 80's, 90's and today. I like them more than Pink Flyod. Just my opinion. This song sounds sick when played on guitar!!!!
@GreatTippy - Not that they give a hoot, but how can they NOT be in the R & R HOF? A disservice to them in my humble opinion. Not only the best band, but second to none when it came to performing LIVE!!! Amazing for 3 guys to be so harmonious. RUSH RULES!!!!
@GreatTippy you couldnt have put it any better my friend. Natural science may be the greatest song of all time. These guys should be remembered for years and years like mozart etc . The holy TRIFECTA.
He did on the most recent tour on one song, "Passage to Bangkok" but he just did that for the fans and because his tech (Russ) talked him into it. He really prefers the sound of the Jazz Basses.
the reason they aren't on radio is because the only thing the radio plays now days is that rap crap, and even on the rock stations all they play is led zeppelin. The reason they aren't on TV is because they aren't very mainstream, and Neil doesn't like to go on tv and do public stuff since his daughter and wife died in like 95' .Geddy and Alex sometimes do interviews and smaller shows. Ive seen them on Vh1 classic once or twice, but mostly they stay out of the media "limelight". (pun intended)

ref (iggy fritz) ive watched rush for 25 years, first gig stafford bingley hall 1980 and many more since, i went 5 times in 1 week on the r30 tour,
i will be taking my 11 year old son in october to sheffield but i will be going to newcastle, manchester, birmingham, in my opinion no other band has been able to get any where near them,
I have seen every Rush tour since 1980 and I am here to say they have never disapointed me, one of the worlds best bands live period!! even to this day they are the best live act.
