Why would anyone want to port the vent in the trunk area?? The spare tire is gettn all the sound. It would be louder heard if ported through rear package tray
@01Ranga since always, there are exceptions to the rule, but since bass is a radiant type wave, and less directional, they almost always sound better facing away from the listener in a car.
@onesikchb yeah ok...keep thinking that bro...i guess i'm an exception to that rul and the world record holders and all the "loud" trunks lol i will always run my setup sub forward port forward...i do over a 150 in the trunk at 39hz with 2 12s on less than 2k...check my vids..../end :P run your sub back port back against mine...we'll see who "sounds" better....lulz
@01Ranga spl competition and a good sounding street car are two different things entirely, it is obvious that this guy isnt in competitions. and with a port like his, he would get a lot of chuffing if ported in his cab. i looked at your vids and your big port comp. style box is meant to face into the cab for spl, and you wont get port noise due to your port design. but he has a small square edged port in a bandpass box. i shouldn't have to make that distinction
@onesikchb i like how you are trying to educate me like i'm a newb to car audio..lulz...obviously there is a difference between an spl comp car and a daily driver...i was referring to my daily driver trunk car that peaks at 39hz and plays down to 28hz no probs, i hardly consider this my comp car tho i think it does well on the meter for what it is and i don't recall talking about this guys setup...it's prefab junk and would sound like shit no matter how you face it.
@01Ranga you are right, but i suppose i should have been more specific and said. you always face shitty sounding subs back so it takes some of the shitty sound out of it. but i didnt, oh well
@anders4020 hvor stor forsterker bruker du a? har en 2 kanals 1000watt men den blir kanskje for liten for to stk? tenkte å kjøpe 10" egentlig :P og er det vanlig glass eller plexi?
i love too see these people talkin bout flea markets try to find some focal layin round.not gonna see thattoo often. nice subs.agree with blockbeata09 though
its a cute looking box but that's all. I see you have plenty of space to fit a nice big, ported box and play those subs louder , cleaner and having a higher range of frequency. dont get me wront cute looking box, but those subs have more boom in them.....
ive had bad expieriences with them feeding contant power even when i shut my vehicle off and also giving me dead batteries i may have got a couple lemons out of the bunch but my expierience wasn;t satisfactory
common misconception, a properly built ported box will sound just as good if not better than a sealed...tho it may not be as punchy due to the sealed enclosures spring like effect on the subwoofer
@NcHalfrican yea, i have been building custom boxes for while now and a ported box will always sound better and louder then a sealed box... hands down. You have to make sure the box has the right FT^3 and is tuned right to the type of music you listen to. and just as a side note... why the F#$% do people use screws to build sub boxes. thats the WORST thing to do!!!! MDF is compressed paper, screws only make it split, and damage the wood.
@AlpineAndrew screws are ok if you pre-drill the holes first. most people make the mistake of using too many and using a screw every two inches. this actually ruins the integrity of the box. i personally use brad nails and industrial wood glue for boxes that hold two 15's or smaller. for big boxes that hold 4 or more subs, internal bracing, strong adhesive, brad nails every 2 inches, and screws every 6 inches is a must. also, bedliner on the inside will have your box loud and durable.
@imblueivebeendyed sealed does not make it more accurate.... ported boxs can hit just as fast and as hard as sealed. Sealed gives you the Boom, ported is louder and gives you a buzz type of bass. I have done many 10s in ported boxs and they are extremely accurate..... it mainly depends on the driver itself.
@Jacobbz206 i watched a ported vs sealed box vid, and the frequency range cut out on sum parts on the excursion on the ported while the sealed box kept the sound goin all the way down the frequency range, they used the same subs, sooo idk, rlly all is a matter of opinion and choice
@imblueivebeendyed ported cuts off? Maybe because they set the subsonic filter so the sub would not bottom out when trying to reach too low of a frequency in a box that is tuned too high to hit that frequency safely. I have used boxes tuned to 22hz and lower for some applications depending on the driver and they sounded amazingly musical for low end but high end sucked in comparison. A good SQ tuning on a box is 37hz, you can hit the lows, mids and some of the highs and sound good doing it.
@Jacobbz206 sounds good, hey man, i dnt mean to sound incompetent or nething, im just speaking off of basic knowledge from reading and watching vids, sadly i cant afford to play around with and test car audio systems as much as i like kuz i simply cant afford it, thanks for the insight tho
@RYDOGG2992 you wrong buddy. Ported boxes are more eficient and therefore sound louder to the human ear than sealed boxes. But a selaed box that is powered by a nice strong amp will give much better quality sound than a ported. Ported has a steep low frequency drop off where as a sealed has a much smoother roll off. trust me. Ive tried both
@blockbeata09 i would tend to disagree those are neo magnets and are way stronger then a ferite magnet so they are probably some pretty hard hittin subs.
The box is suposed to be that small.. The working condition for this sub, is about 30L, both closed or vented speaker box! So i think this box is right.. ;)

ported or bandpass boxes always sound best i have used a sealed and it just dont song that good
RYDOGG2992 2 years ago
It depends on the music your listening to. Sealed is meant for everyday use, it gives off better sound and can handle more power.
Ported is good.... mostly for hip hop, techno, etc.
