that kills the lifespan of your headphones. you should never be wrapping the wires. only lightly folding them in half. the same way is used when you get the power supply for a computer, game console, kitchen appliance, or any other electronic tool that is powered by a DC plug.

I have had the speakers eventually go bad after a couple of years or I have snagged the cord on something and had it break when I was not using this trick. I think your headphones are more likely to die of more natural causes than they are to die from this.
