Was the ship itself able to get close to any glacier? Thanks for the pictures, they are breathtaking!

@hersonm67 thanks for commenting...in glacier bay which is what you see in the vid, the ship was able to get within several hundred yards of the ice and the ship also turned 360 degrees so passengers on both sides of the ship could get a good look from their balconies.

I think my husband and I were on this very same cruise!!! Thank you for posting, lots of great memories came flooding back! I was just telling him I'd love to go on another cruise someday, back to Alaska maybe, such an amazingly beautiful place. We too went on the White Pass Railway in Skagway. Thanks again!

with a bunch of crazy super friendly Aussies with hollow legs.

the white pass was spectaular.

Dude i was on this trip with you and have some of your exact pictures. I'm surprised you don't have any of the beard guys on here anywhere. Thank you for taking me back to one of the most enjoyable experiences I've had in my entire life.

I spent pretty much the whole cruise at the deck 9 fantail bar drinking Stellas, taking these pix and hanging with all the crazy and super cool Aussies on board. Who are the "beard guys"??? :-)

My mistake you must have gone from Sitka back to Vancouver. We went the other way.

The world beard championships were going on in Anchorage. Rather than fly, a bunch of them decided to cruise. Wicked cool though, a bunch of guys from all over the world with huge beards walking around.

Anyway thanks for taking me back. Even if it wasn't the same trip.

Just booked my 2010 Alaska cruise on Spirit. I am so excited. It does not go to Glacier bay, but I am sure that it will still be an amazing trip. Any advise on tours? did you buy through Carnival or on your own?

If you sail into Skagway, you MUST take the White Pass Railway trip.

In Juneau, I enjoyed my kayaking on Lake Mendenhall, home of the famed Medndenhall Glacier. Ketchikan has all sorts of things to do.

If you have the fundage, you'll want to take a float plane or helicopter ride, available at all the stops along the way. Beaucoup bucks though. Enjoy your trip. The Spriit is a beautiful gal and I cant wait to see her again.

Did you do the 3 hours White Pass trip or the Yukon 6 hour trip? It seems that going early May I will only have the option of the 3 hour. Thank you again for your advice.

Thanks for the response. The cruise I am planning on does not go to Glacier bay. Was that the highlight of your trip? I am concerned that my first trip to Alaska will not include Glacier bay. Will we see any comparable views along the inside passage? What tours would you recommend? or not recommend. Would appreciate as much advise as you are willing to share : )

I am planning on going on the Spirit inside passage on 5/10/10. Seems like you were on the Port side of the ship to get thos pictures. Would you recommend that side?

I was on this cruise July 1 to 7 2009 hot and sunny all week would you believe.Warm enough for the pool slide and shorts on land.
