I am christian and i still belive that that book Tao Te Ching holds knowledge in its poems. That applies not just to one religion but to the world and human existence itself.
@smudge6699 thanks for the pointer man, I appreciate it. :D I'm not surprised to see such a man in Leary's company.
not sure what you're into, but while we're on the topic I might as well try and return the favor and recommend this documentary, I watched the whole thing: /watch?v=_tgAT9WSHxs&feature=related
Yin and Yang represent the vital energies that are everywhere. When they are not in balance, it is reflected outwardly. Chaos moves toward harmony. All things move toward balance. The poems contain wonderful teaching about this vital dynamic.
Read Yin Yang Primer by Edward Esko..So many of you out there watching these videos want to understand what you already know, and with this book you will learn how to classify yin and yang and then be able to create balance in all things. When the weather is cold(yin), like it is for me today...we naturally, intuitively seek warmth(yang) to balance the cold. When we have been active(yang), we seek rest(yin). After rest, we are ready to become active again! The universal order of change is tao
Yin and Yang are light sides of a box and shadowed sides, and you need light to make shadows. Just like you need to lose to win, wake to sleep, day for night, so many different comparisons for just Yin and Yang ^_^.
Yin and Yang are good and evil.. but it is also cold and hot, darkness and light, negative and positive, male and female etc, what it represents though is the great oneness of all things and that you cannot have good without evil, evil without good, thats what the dots are for
yin and yang is not good and evil.. it's opposites like; good and evil, white and black, angry and calm, anything is yin and yang as long as it's opposite!
my understanding of the yin yang symbol or my way of adapting it to my beliefs rather is that there is no such thing as good or evil, no such things as bad or good negative and positive as these are just perceptions of the person. I think the yin yang symbol is to represent that fact by showing that everything is a little of each thus cannot be one thing :P and no one/nothing should be treated as such.
I should not have commented; pondering on Lao Tzu's words, all unecessary speaking is "ego." I need to keep active though I don't enjoy excessive quiet.
true; the diagram only represents a way to view the universe, however the philosphy does not hold itself to be "ultimate arbiter" of everything. If there is "evil" in Daoist Philosophy, it would have to be inbalance.
@pillsburydoughboy47 i have a question since u seem to know substantualy more about this then me. im not trying to be a smart ass im just noticing your comments. ive been wondering cause ive been looking for religions because catholicism didnt seem right to me but in terms of the yin-yang does the black dot in the white and vice versa..can it symbolize that in good there is also evil and in evil there is also good? please any knowledge would be greatly appreciated
@drkn974 ...you are quite right. The Taijitu represents the principle of yin and yang, not forces in conflict but qualities that are interdependent and connected in nature, which is the physical expression of TAO. The dot within each side means each has the potential to be the other, that there are no strict polar opposites. As to your example of good and evil, in nature there is no good or evil, only the human perspective.
@drkn974 ..The mouse steals food from a kitchen. To a human the mouse is evil. The cat eats the mouse, from the mouse's perspective the cat is evil because it kills the mouse. Both cat and mouse do what they must to eat, to survive. Are both evil? YinYang merely represent the flowing aspects of something...sometimes a thing is low, other times high. Sometimes one is behind, sometimes one is ahead. The Taijitu expressing YinYang shows the flow to Harmony, not Conflict. Balance not Struggle.
Ying and Yang is the matters and dark matters of the universe, it is the spiritual and material world, it is just symbol of Ying and Yang, white hole and black hole is the eyes of it, it is transforming from Ying and Yang , black to white and matters and dark matters, recycle from each with no ending...so we don't need to think of good and bad, black or white because neither one of them could exist without another...balance is the key to the universe...
We can imagine the universe is made by matters and dark matters(dark matters that the scientist have discovered),the black hole is the eye of Ying in the matter of the world, and white hole is the eye of Yang in dark matter world. the whole universe is running and developing or transforming from those two worlds. spiritual world and material world, particles and waves...recycling with no ending...this is what Taoism wants to tell.
The Eternal Tao is everything. Water is ten thousand things. Conciousness is the manifestation of the Eternal Tao. Just as everything you sense are manifestations of the Eternal Tao. Time, Energy and Space have no beginning and no end. Infinite. Think about that.
Yes, the study of Taiji (Tai Chi Chuan) is the "internal" martial art which is self defense, but also is to balance the Yin and Yang in the physical body and the mind.
Yin and Yang is only a representation of the duality of the real. Good and Evil are creations of men. But, they are both part of the Eternal Tao which is ALWAYS changing.
@SeriousSam505 Good and Evil is a matter of perspective...In the busy market of life your bound too get your shoe stepped on...just remember that we all have feet.
There are things that cannot be described by or understood through language. A complete description and understanding of the purpose and operation of the Way is beyond the power of language.
Whether you try to reason your way through life or act through emotion, the words associated with each path can be traps, not bridges, because they hide what is common to each: the presence of mystery.
You are right despite the very little amount of information in the video and opinions of viewers who know nothing about this. Opposite is wrong. But it is right. The are opposite ends of the same rod. Poles so to speak. Masculine and Feminine are degrees of humanity. Physical manifestation of gender as sex is irrelevant to what is being discussed here.

Is a taiji-symbol the same taiji as the martial art- Taiji' chuan? Probably. I don't speak Chinese.

This is not a good understanding of Yin and Yang. Is Man the opposite of Woman? I think not. So to say "opposite" is wrong....I believe
