This shows their background as live performers - when things go wrong they're able to roll with it and make it incredibly funny 'cause their humor comes from more than just following a script.

In this case literally everything went wrong with the sketch but they ran with it so well that they figured it was better than what they had scripted so they ran with it. Brilliant!

@HisEmptyHouse nah, it was all scripted. they are geniuses, but they're particularly great at apparently chaotic and natural looking scripts. the 'oh no it's all going wrong but the audience love it' thing has been around for a lot longer than V and B. See Cook and Moore, Spike Milligan etc. think it started in pantos.

I couldn't agree with you more. It's a travesty that R&M aren't on the BBC anymore, they're head and shoulders above the current popular comedians. They were thrown a few crumbs this Xmas with a doc about Shooting Stars. But it's not enough, SS was 1 of their poorest shows not even comparable to The Smell of R&M, Bang Bang it's R&M etc. I loved Mulligan or was it O'Hare 1st meeting Rose in the dermatological ward of their local hospital, she was there cos skin had grown over her ankle chain.
