Well this one piece of filming of police treating people like this means I wont be sending them a X mas card.. I was in Oxford earlier this year and saw banners placards and vocal views by muslim rally walker saying KILL all non believers kill those murderers appertaining to our soldiers and they walked by happily . These people arrested . I think double standards are in force from the top.

However we were assaulted by private security staff in the Bullring for giving free hugs and the police showed up... instead of protecting us they formed a line between us and the security staff (with their backs to the aggressors). On lookers called for the police to do their jobs, which they did not. Eventually we left the scene and went for a quiet drink in a local pub, only to have the nazi snatch squad force us out then arrest some of our group.

Yes i did, in a time of civil disturbance holding a gathering like this is not recommended is it. and if it was like your last foray into the shopping centre with shouting and masks, ignoring the security guards and wrestling with them when they tried to eject your from their property then the police had every right to arrest. i take it free hugs werent to security personnel and police.
i think my church might be sensible enough not to try this.

@whosurlady Do you not understand that the police may view a gathering such as this around the time of larger disorder as a potential flashpoint. Masks of anykind can cause alarm to the general public expecially if you are walking into shopping areas and refusing to comply to the security personnel's requests and causing a scene which is in itself an offence. your group meeting may have been over but you are stil congregating in the street and if asked to disperse and u refuse action was taken!

@hmmcrunchy We were not asked to disperse. However we were assaulted by private security staff in the Bullring for giving free hugs and the police showed up... instead of protecting us they formed a line between us and the security staff (with their backs to the aggressors). On lookers called for the police to do their jobs, which they did not. Eventually we left the scene and went for a quiet drink in a local pub, only to have the nazi snatch squad force us out then arrest some of our group.

people do come first but a state is needed to help and protect them. in this case the state was protecting individuals by stopping an action which may have alarmed or distressed certain members of the public.

@KnowingDasEin however small the group of people you distress surely they have a right not to be in fear in a public place. can you see where im coming from. if a group walked into a shopping centre refused to leave when asked by security all masked and shouting. i would expect the police to be there to protect the public - i dont know who anonymous are, i dont know if you are going to suddenly kick off or blow something up. people are alarmed by the unknown and expect to police to act

But the key point for every person is that we need discretion and discernment, we need to be able to assess how a situation will go. I just think it was quite obvious we weren't a real threat to anyone, especially seeing that most people were giving us bemused grins. It got out of hand.

@KnowingDasEin Hey, i know what you mean. discretion is a big part, if the police just saw you in another context they may not have an issue. but if one old lady is frightened unfortuantely thats too much, and them complaining will have the police asking you to stop then failing that arrest. Its people percieved threat rather than actual.
