  • a brand new fan with a Jaguar... how original.. just kidding :) I have the same Jaguar except took out the stock pickups and put some D.allen crazy cats. i love that guitar. great review man!

  • @immersethecoast haha i know. but i guess technically derrick is the only one in that band that plays a jaguar.

does the coil splitting behave any differently when you change the pickups?

  • @BasketCase22 actually when i had the pickups changed, it was rewired back to regular jaguar settings.

  • great review man. every option I wanted to hear, you displayed it

  • im going to get i new guitar soon, but i just cant choose between a Stratocaster or a Jaguar. What would you recomend? i play all genres of rock, except the deathmetal stuff..

  • @mads1madsen I would recommend a Jaguar, just because that's my own preference. Strats always seemed too thin for what I like and don't handle distortion the way i want a guitar to handle it. But maybe the difference between Strat players and Jag players is more in personality and aesthetics than anything.

You can play rock on either of those guitars, so my advice would be play both and see what feels/sounds better to you.

  • ok IM stuck betwen this jaguar or a guitar called "mondial woody2" from the company Italia. which one should i get?

  • nice guitar indeed

searching all yt this is the first video that show the single coil/humbucker sound, thank you

  • i am stuck between the jag and pawn shop mustang.........what do you recommend?

  • @soultosqueeze11 I've never played one of those, really I've never seen a mustang with humbuckers. But looking at it, it has similar capabilities as this guitar, and is priced the same. I'd say it's a toss up, so figure out which one you like better.

  • Sounds like a pretty lively-toned guitar no matter what setting it's on.

  • i ordered the exact same one in that finish, should get it this wednesday.

  • hey can you explain the controls?

  • @michael23punkrock I don't own one, but on the Classic Player models I believe it's: (lower hexagonal thing) treble boost (possibly HPF on/off), neck pup on/off, bridge pup on/off (upper bit) HB/coil tap blend for bridge, HB/coil tap blend for neck, killswitch. I think the knobs are volume/overall tone, but I'm not sure.

On older models, the upper bit was high-pass filter, low-pass filter and rhythm/lead circuit select and the HPF and LPF only worked on the rhythm circuit.

  • how is it forlead playing in terms of neck comfort. I assume it feels a bit stratlike but correct me please if i am wrong. I am considering selling my guitars to buy this one.

  • @NonLocalYokel the neck itself is pretty thin, almost like a strat. however, the scale is shorter. that changes things, so if you haven't played a short scale guitar you might want to play one first.

  • @BasketCase22 the one I tried the other day doesnt have a thin neck at all

    Quite full.

  • @NonLocalYokel Jags, if you haven't played one before, don't really feel like anything else. They feel more "fragile" than any other guitar I've played - it's hard to explain. They don't feel like Strats: they don't really feel like anything else.

I don't shred, but I'd imagine they'd be pretty lousy for it. Bluesy solos, probably okay. Jags have so much of a character of their own that I'd say that they only really shine for surf rock, blues and grunge.

  • @NonLocalYokel Or to put it more briefly: Jags are really, really, REALLY a love-it-or-hate-it thing. They are NOT generic guitars - in fact, I'd say that out of all the reasonably well-known guitars they're the ones with the strongest personal character. If you're considering getting one I would really strongly advise playing one first.

  • I have this same guitar. Great guitar, but the bridge buzzes too much due to the intination screws not being spring tentioned. The high E would also jump off the groove too easily when playing hard. I just bought a Mastery bridge too replace the stock one. I have it in the shop being installed now. The Mastery bridge requires you to pull out the threaded thimbles out (post sleeves) and re-dowel/re-drill the post hols to fit the new threadless thimbles.

  • Great Guitar, Thanks A Million for the Demo video, but once again my pet pieve.

The light goes at the camera looking at the subject not behind the subject making the subject in shadow (the window). It doesn't look like this when you look around with your eyes, as your brain compensates for it, but to a camera you are what is called back lit.

    Big Ron

  • fuckin awesome guitar. when u played at the bottom and jesus i cried tears of joy

  • @thecuddlykittens haha thanks, i'm glad you liked it!

  • Diggin the lonesome crowded west stuff man. Awesome review and demo though. By the way, is the only difference between this and the jag special hh the tremelo?

  • @cahaveit thanks. there are a few other differences from the jaguar hh, including the coil splitting on this guitar.

  • @BasketCase22 yeah i looked more into it today. the classic player also has the cutout switch, which is awesome.

  • Seems like a great guitar. Been looking for something that completes my sound (currently got an Epi Les Paul with Seymour Duncans and a Gibson SG Special with P90s). This one fills out the blank. It got nice sounding humbuckers, nice single coil tones (might sound good with one as a 'bucker and one as a single - I mostly play in the middle setting) and a tremolo bar, which I'm kind of missing. I've seen one in a local store, think I'll try it out. And it comes in white, which is a plus. :P

  • Nice demo, man. Really liked the guitar.

  • Nice work on the AC/DC part.

  • which switch splits the coil? the third one on the bottom?

  • @PAULisDEADMANnumber9 none of the switches. the two rolling devices above the neck pickup do the coil splitting.

  • @BasketCase22

Then what do all those damn switches do?

  • @CCRockit uh. pickup selection. just like in any jaguar.

  • whats the song at 02:33 ?

  • @fetznsched say it ain't so - weezer

  • @BasketCase22

    thank you :)

  • How does the whammy behave? Does it bring the guitar out of tune? It kinda sounded like thats what the case was but I couldn't tell for sure

  • @MotherFudger27 not really. you have to do it a lot to put it out of tune.

  • Whas the song at 5:10

and the first one you play at 1:49

  • @Conbryvas

1:49 is scar tissue - red hot chili peppers

5:10 is the weight - thrice

  • bridge humbuckers sound sweet!

  • I bought that exact guitar today. Love the Humbucker/single coil switching system!

  • ah ha! i heard some Modest Mouse in there. teeth like god's shoeshine.

  • what is the song at 2:33?

  • @TightRedEyed say it ain't so - weezer

  • @BasketCase22 thanks. awesome guitar btw im thinking of picking up either one of these or a 60s players strat

  • @TightRedEyed thats cool. good choice either way

  • what strings do you use?

    Gauge?

  • @Luvinhas ernie ball regular slinky

  • love the guitar man. thanks

  • that would look and sound so cool with dimarzio P.A.F. and dimarzio super distortion pickups

  • @xRAKDOZx i'd put those in a les paul, but not this guitar.

  • @xRAKDOZx Dude...dont try saying stuff like that when all nirvana fans know that Kurt Cobain used those pickups on his jaguar...

  • @KillVision133 why not if that's exactly the reason i would want to put them on

  • @basketcase22 thanks, that was exactly what i needed

  • I heard that this guitar has the tail piece closer to the bridge than the older versions. Can you still make that kinda sonic youth sound when you play the strings between the tailpiece and the bridge? And do you know how the controls technically work? Thanks dude, hope you can answer me, great video

  • @joaod94 you can still make that noise, see 12:08 in this video for my example. this guitar is pretty good for that kind of stuff. i don't understand much about what is going on inside the guitar though, if that's what you're asking. sorry. the 3 switches that are together turn pickups on/off, and the rolling things at the top switch the pickups between humbucker and single coil, with the killswitch above.. if that helps anything

  • Is this guitar good for tool and metal?

  • is the body too big and the neck too small? xD

I feel that on my squier strat

  • @Luvinhas no... i don't really understand how a neck could be too small

  • @BasketCase22 Forget it, its probably because the bridge in stratos are more far.

Is the guitar good for tool? and metal?

  • @Luvinhas I don't play or listen to Tool, so i wouldn't know, but that guy uses a les paul custom, doesn't he? And metal is a pretty broad term for describing a genre and then wanting yes or no. You could be talking about 80s hair metal, glam, or arena stuff, or older classics like black sabbath, or thrashy stuff, or death and black metal, or more standard metal like metallica, megadeth and pantera. I don't think a jag is a good idea for death metal, but it wouldn't sound bad for some 80s stuff.

  • @BasketCase22 yes he uses a les paul custom or something like that, i wold not use the jag for shreddy or death metal stuff, but maybe for metallica nad like i said tool.

By saying if it is good for tool or metal, i meant, if it haves a nice distortion, if you say it is good for 80s stuff like metallica it will have a nice metal sound for tool.

  • Can you play grunge on this guitar ?

  • @KillVision133 if you want to...

  • Good review, gave me a good idea of what the HH version sounds like. I just ordered one for $700 new, should come in 5 days. I was upset when I found out it was maid in Mexico, but the Japanese version only comes in black and no tremolo system.

  • can you play funk ish kind a things

    something like hendrix or fruciante?

  • @link6161 yeah

  • awesome demo man I love mine possibilities!!!!!!!!!!!! are endless with this jaguar Fender really nailed it with this 1

  • how is the neck on this guitar is it very slim like a mustang or is it kind of fat and how is the weight light of a bit heavy

  • @wipers86 I've never played a mustang but the neck is pretty slim. It's much slimmer than that of my Les Paul. I'd say it weighs about as much as a Telecaster but it has a bigger body so it isn't as dense... and doesn't feel very heavy at all.

  • what's your over all thought on your jaguar would you recommend it to others im thinking about getting one to replace my crappy les paul

  • @wipers86 I'd recommend it, but try to find a good deal on it. I don't think it's really worth it to pay that much for a MIM guitar. It was $900 at one point but it's been lowered.

  • @BasketCase22 thnx for the feed back man

  • Thats an Vox AC-50 CP 2 Combo, right?!

  • @trunkgmx yes it is

  • how do you adjust the truss rod on this guitar, how much stuff you got to take apart to get to the adjustment.

  • Is this the guitar Kurt Cobain used at the Live at Reading show? And is this a good quality guitar? thanks

  • @jacxdaless it is similar and yes

  • @jacxdaless It's 'inspired' by his Jaguar, the killswitch replacing the dual-circuit switch is the best example of that (he taped over some of the controls and got a killswitch in his).

I've ordered mine today :D Blendable coil tapped really sold it for me, it sounds like a very versatile guitar and it looks fantastic. Reasonably priced as well, maybe because Jags aren't really mainstream like Strats/Teles.

  • @LukeMadSkillz1984 Yeah because there was this contest on fenders website to win the "Kurt Cobain" Jaguar or something along those lines. And I recall it was this guitar they were giving away for the contest. And yes i agree strats and teles are very mainstream, almost generic..

  • Do you think you can make a video explaining how the coil tapping works? I have a jag with two single coils, but I want one with humbuckers as well. I'm gonna change the pickups on it so I just wonder how it all works.

    Good job on the review

  • @russin94 well it's quite simple really. the two rolling devices (i don't know what they're called) above the neck pickup control the pickups. they replace what is known as the "rhythm circuit" on normal jags. pushing them all the way to the right puts the pickups in single coil mode, and as you push them to the left, they activate the humbuckers. as far as what actually happens inside the guitar, you would have to check google or something for how that works.

  • @BasketCase22 Thanks for the answer! You have made things realy clear for me!

  • @russin94 Thats quite a big job, i would imagine that you would have to route out cavities for humbuckers, also would have to solder a whole bunch of new electrics. It wouldn't impossible by any means, you could get the wiring diagram from fenders website. Good luck

  • @spudvader86 I don't think that's a problem. People change coil splitting pickups all the time, and it's not that hard if you know how to do. Also I'm gonna let a professional do it, so I thing I will manage. Thanks for the warning and the tip though! Keep rocking

  • with coil splitting is it the pickup thats special or is it the volume pot that does it all??

  • @MeanGreenMovies I'm not sure, but your question is pretty important if anyone was considering switching pickups on this. It might be both.

  • I think this guitar is awesome, expecially the HH model, more aggressive than the SS version. I have a little question for you: I'm going to buy this jewel for Xmas, but i don't know where this guitar is maded. Is the classic player jaguar HH made in america, in japan or in mexico? Thanks xD

  • @Darkel616 It's made in Mexico. It's too bad fender doesn't make a more affordable American jag or jazzmaster, or else i would have went that route.

  • @BasketCase22 I'm in love with this guitar, but I don't know whether or not to buy it.

I prefer an american jag, but It's impossible actually. I know that sometimes mex instruments sond like or better than american's but i should tro try one on this jag before, and in the city where I live it's impossible. I dream this guitar every night, what should I do? xD

  • @Darkel616 Well, i guess the only thing you can do is order the guitar and hope that it is satisfying, or go without the guitar. I bought mine without playing it beforehand, but i wouldn't suggest that unless there is no other option. If you dream of this guitar, then it sounds like you really want it and it would be worth the risk.

  • @BasketCase22 are you satisfied of this jag? Forgive me if i'm bothering you with my incessant questions xD

just another thing, is versatile? I play blues, rock, alternative, new wave (my band plays dark wave-alternative rock)

    thanks for your time :D

  • @Darkel616 i am satisfied, although there are a few minor flaws that any new guitar can come with. it is the most versatile guitar i've played.

  • @BasketCase22 ok, I will buy this axe, for so much time now it's not my love, just my obsession, jaguar guitar should be mine,it will!

    Thank you :D

  • Comment removed

  • are you using flatwound strings? I hear that this guitar is made for playing "jazz" and that any other strings besides flatwounds doesnt work well it.

  • @bloc22 well that statement would be true for the "real" jaguar or jazzmaster but this one was redesigned for modern guitar players. besides that, i can guarantee you most of the people in bands i listen to playing these kinds of guitars today don't use flatwound.

  • @BasketCase22 hey thanks for the quick reply. Im buying this same exact model and even Im getting it in the same color too. The thing about the flatwound strings was kind of holding me back. What kind of strings are you using?

  • @bloc22 They're just ernie ball slinky with coated titanium. They cost around $10 a pack but don't break as easily and don't rust. As someone already decided to point out, i don't like to change my strings all that often.

But you can use whatever you prefer.

  • @BasketCase22 Yeah I'm an ernie ball guy too. I use the same exact strings on my telecaster. I agree that the strings might be a bit more expensive than others, but I think they're worth it. Thanks again for the info

  • hey, nice review dude, and u play pretty good! Bravo! I'm looking t buy one of these myself , so could u tell me, does the guitar stay in tune after excessive use of the tremolo arm? Have u had any modifications t the guitar? Thanks :D

  • @noxinferius thank you! from my own experience, i think it does a decent job of staying in tune after noodling with the tremolo. i don't really need to tune it that often, and the arm on this guitar isn't really designed for all out whammying, but you can do some pretty cool things with it. and there are no modifications.

  • Sounds good, guy. Glad to see a good demo of this guitar :)

  • Is it possible to have one pickup split, while the other one is not? For example, could you have a humbucker in the bridge and a split humbucker in the neck?

  • @gogopepsi i think so, heres what it says on musicians friend "Rhythm" Circuit: Cut switch, Humbucker/Single Coil Blend - One for Each Pickup"

so i think you can! glad you asked that cause i didnt even think of that!

  • @gogopepsi yes, you can. i should have shown that in the video, but each pickup has its own rolling thing that you push all the way right for single coil and all the way left for humbucker. i ususally find myself using the neck pickup as a single coil and the bridge as a humbucker, but you can do any combination or blend of the two.

  • @BasketCase22 Yeah, it's like having the best of both worlds. So I'm either getting this or a Fender American Special Stratocaster HSS. At least, that's what I think the particular model is called. The black one.

  • Is this jaguar stock? I always thought the electronics where just away around diferent tones, but didn´t actually know that is was a coil split system. Is this legit?

  • @funkaluca yeah but it's only this model that has coil splitting, not all of the jaguars.

  • @BasketCase22 Nice, where did you get it or what specific model is it? I would love to have one of these! Do they sell at musiciansfriend? Or did you mod it yourself?

  • @funkaluca i got it from musiciansfriend. youtube isn't letting me display a link to the exact model on fender.com so if you just go to mf and type in "fender jaguar classic player hh" it will come up.

  • @BasketCase22 NIce, where did you get, or what specific model is it? Do they sell at musiciansfriend or did you mod it yourself?

  • Great review mate I'm bought the same exact guitar, I'ts shipped in and I'm picking it up this week I could have picked it up two days ago , but I'm letting the anticipation build up, now I can get rid of this crappy epiphone sg peace!

  • Does this guitar have good action?

  • @everyonewilsuffernow i think that mine does. it might be too low, because the guitar frets out whenever i do bends on the e string around the 15th fret, but it seems like the frets themselves might be a little rough.

  • how does it do for guns n roses and that stuff? or pink floyd? also what does it do well in generally?

    thanks

  • @AkisColdplay if you're gonna play arena rock like gnr you probably want a les paul. pink floyd calls for more of a strat like tone, which is similar to this guitar when single coils are used.

it can be used for a variety of different sounds. that's what i use it for. it's good at pretty much everything but the sound isn't distinct to make it amazing at one particular thing. i've read where people consider the sound to be a bit generic, so i guess that's why they would say that.

  • @BasketCase22

I know that a les paul would be better for that... but I asked because I want a guitar that can do anything in a pretty decent level, from country ,to metal ,to rock ,to jazz, blues(everything), and I really liked this guitar, and mainly the shape of its body... got any other suggestions?...

thanks by the way for answering my first question...

  • @AkisColdplay oh ok. yeah... this is definitely one of the most versatile guitars out there besides if you're venturing out into the area of something like a line 6 variax or some other guitar modeling type thing. it can handle some of each of the things you mentioned. i wonder if a les paul with coil splitting would have more range... but i dont think gibson makes that on any stock guitar

  • @BasketCase22

check out gibson les paul deluxe 60s...

thanks a lot, that was really helpful...

  • @AkisColdplay dont play these for those... well maybe floyd will work but for GnR use a Gibson or Ibanez... maybe a Strat, but not these babies.. its just too bright for such deep n rich tones

  • if you put like distortion mayhem pickups in tht, would it be good for harder shit? like hardcore kinda like stuff?

  • @sammyboy980 i'm not sure... i think you'd be better off just getting a guitar that is already suited for that style.

  • hah... a lil Underoath there ^^ nice

  • @dimmuborgirhell

There's definitely no way you could tell that based on sound that was greatly compressed by a video camera and even moreso by youtube. i changed them a few months ago.

  • Thanks a lot for this video, it's the first one about this guitar that has actually helped me out. I am currently thinking about purchasing a jag HH but wasn't sure if it would pack enough punch for some off the stuff i wanna play. Now i am more than reasured that it does indeed xDD. Rock on!^^

  • defo gonna buy this one but in 3 tone sunburst
