Yes there was DEFINITLY a heavy raider in the scene, furthermore if you watch the scene carefully there is a shot of Starbuck veiwed towarded the cockpit- look just above and to the left(port side ) of her head- there is a cannon hole there that JUST missed blowing her out of space. OMG I'm such a nerd/geek-monster for remembering that. Enjoy the tune though: Bear McCreary ROCKS
haha... If you dont know BSG you have to watch it... The Soundtracks alone are beautyfull maybe awesome but with the history its just epic BELIVE IT =D
Bear McCreary deserves so much recognition the things that he has composed honestly people aren't gonna like this but he is better than John Williams, Mozart, and Beethoven
@artemaus10 mozart and beethoven are only famous because they were geniuses for their time. im pretty sure mcreary is the mazart/beethoven for our time
That part at 3:57 where the music picks up a bit is where Kara's Viper breaks apart and Lee screams "Nooo, noooh!" ... now if that doesn't shake you up you are made of stone. Such an emotional scene, the song is a perfect fit.
@antred11 On a HD / Blue Ray version of the scene you can hear a very distinct Cylon "by your command" hidden as an Easter egg :) Its pretty hard to hear even with HD / Blue Ray quality but with headphones you can hear a "by your..." just after the girl is shown and a very faint "command " a couple of moments after vastly covered by the explosion :)
The camera was looking on events through Kara's eyes in its positioning. It is therefore unreliable. The dream / rite of passage sequence no doubt is incredibly complicated and I think the point is its very surreal.
None of it makes sense from a very human, rational perspective: the event is closer to some sort of metaphysics / religious experience.
Whether or not Kara was dying or was hit by the bullet is not really, considering what that event leads onto, particularly significant.
Huh... now that I watched Maelstrom again, I noticed that when Kara's Viper was attacked by that phantom Raider, one of the bullets went through the window, and I think it hit Kara. Was she already dying when she had that dream?
@ftlgo238 Well if the projectile missed her and hit the back of her cockpit I assume its safe to say that she was not yet dead. However whats the point? She would never life to see the next day either way.
@willthack13 There was a raider, and Apollo calls out "visual" twice upon seeing it. omg i'm such a nerd. Search for the video "BSG Maelstrom - Apollo Finds Starbuck In The Storm".
@willthack13 There is DEFINITELY a Heavy Raider in this scene. You can see it in the top left of one of the final scenes of the flying, at the same time as Lee and Kara's Vipers. I watched the whole series on Instant Netflix so I was able to go back and pause to see if I saw what I thought I saw..
Bear McCreary is by far one of the best talented composers of our day. I love this type of music and it has been years if not longer since I have heard anything this moving, amazing & Chilling.
What you said is better than a comment from me. We live in great times to hear this fine music. Thanks to all of you involved in making this. I owe you one. When it counts.
@A7XRules4life I'm saying that 200 years - or maybe even 1000 years from now - long after we've forgotten the inner intrigues - that even now fade from our collective Battlestar Galactica memory, it would be nice to think that people will be queuing up this song or others of his as we go about our business.
I remember Katee Sackhoff once saying that she used to play really girly chicks before BSG and now after this show, people avoid her out of fear at the gym. :D
@jpfdon Saul Tigh. Now he was one of the best characters ever created. Such a complex character with amazing pride and horrific shame. It's ironic that he was a cylon in the end, yet no one exemplified the insane extremes of human nature quite like him.
after 3:05 is sooo good that IT KILLS ME! i just can't get it enough. out of this world-- out of everything we know!

And if you look close you get a glimpse of a 3rd ship from the POV of lee and not Kara. Just a pity they went with the "god did it" angle.

This song is full of saddness but there is also a bit of hope and redemption. That's what Starbuck's charcter is about.
