@Jm00sh I agree dude!!! I just gotten finished playing this game (after 12 long years) a few minutes ago, and got 100% items collected for the first time!!! The shortcuts and the Mockball trick also helped me get some items early, even if it means doing some backtracking.

i remember this took my brother something like 6 hours to do. this is probably the most complex metroid game ever created? theres a bazillion bosses and upgrades and stuff.

They didn't blow up, if you look to the right of the planet explosion at: 2:30 you see a fast moving pixel, that was the animals ship.

@zooka0619 No. The Charge Beam, along with all the others, gets replaced when you get the Hyper Beam. Holding in the shot button just makes it keep shooting, the same as when you don't have the Charge Beam equipped.

Nothing more than that. Although it is believed to be canonical because the creatures appear again in Metroid: Other M

Thanks for the helpful walk through. I got 99% of the items =( I guess I missed one from the early stages but I didn't see the point in having to go back looking for just 1 item which will probably take a very long time. I think it was a missle. I had 225. And good to see that after 100% completion it says "see you next mission" I thought it told me that because of the 99%. But what a game! For its time I still think this game is much better than many games made today. So fun. Thanks.

Dude...I just plugged in my SNES and beat this for old time's sake, but at the end I got 99% thanks to one missile pack, and I have no idea which one I forgot about. Still fun though. The thing that makes Super Metroid stand out from all the other ones is the fact that is is perfectly polished 2D gameplay and has enough programming goofs (or maybe they were intentional) to make the mostly linear path not so linear. You can pretty much set your own order of levels and items.

It's an auto destruct. They do it to get the last laugh. What better way to make your assassin suffer than to take him, in this case her, with you?

1. No, the planet can live without the Mother Brain. The Mother Brain just controls the Space Pirate's defense systems, and the self-destruct system is a part of it.

2. Basically, Tourian was built as the Space Pirate's base of operations, hence the Mother Brain controlling it's defenses.
