Five hundred miles of easy acceleration, cornering and braking will allow the mold release lubricant to wear off, allowing the other tire components to begin working together. It is also important to note that your old tires probably had very little tread depth remaining when you felt it was time to replace them. As any autocrosser or racer who has tread rubber shaved off of his tires will tell you, low tread depth tires respond more quickly.
Tires are comprised of many layers of rubber, steel and fabric. Due to these different components, new tires require a break-in period to ensure that they deliver their normal ride quality and maximum performance. As tires are cured, a release lubricant is applied to prevent them from sticking in their mold. Some of the lubricant stays on the surface of your tires, reducing traction until it is worn away. continued
Uh, what? Winter tyre took 7 more metres to stop, which is surely the most important statistic. In real life who cares about lateral grip? Just slow down more for the corners. Unless you live in an area which sees regular temperatures of sub 5 degrees, I wouldn't bother.
I have those very same tyres, Premacy and A4 on my 406 Coupé. The test results match my subjective impressions 1:1. That said I feel like the A4s are the first winter tyres on my car that are not suicidal under braking on wet or dry surfaces.
You get more wet grip but in doing so less likely to let you know the road is slippy. At normal speeds, cocooned from the actual real road conditions you travel at a higher speed with tyres that aren't as good at stopping. The truth is they are a huge expense in a climate that would realistically only need them for 4-6 weeks a year. The vast majority would be better off changing there existing tyres sooner and by taking public transport.
According to the results, THE most important test being the ability to stop quickly takes a full 7.1m longer on the winter tyres, i'd stick with the summer tyres.
As places south of Scotland often go back above 7C during the day in winter, I think i'd avoid the winter tyres and just have them spare if we get a bad snowfall (not very often)
i have some michelin primacy hp as summer- very good in all weather. i must say i've had quite a few set of tyres on my car, a golf with 266 lb ft of torque so goes through quite a lot of rubber; in handling terms they are brilliant. i have had conti sport contact 2s which were great but quite noisy , pirelli p zero rosso, which aren't the best in the colder weather but are progressive. on my winter wheels i have goodyear yltrar 6 and Goodyear Eagle Vector 5 - havent used yet but good reviews!
This video talks as if most people use all season tyres in the uk, thats no the case, nearly all tyres retailed in the uk are summer tyres. NOT all season. All season tyres fill the gap between summer tyres and full winter tyres.
I live in a place that has 60 or 70 one day, and -10 the next, so I just got some mud tires for my Bronco Sport, and I have to say, they do an excellent job year round.
A dike and a queer rating tires...my my... the way that "he" holds that wheel...marvelous.I hope that meteor will hit us soon...i cant take much more of this shit any longer.
You guys saying this video is boring have been spoiled by Top Gear. I find the lack of music so loud you cannot hear the presenters or the car and opinionated bigotry refreshing. Granted, I like Top Gear, but I don't go "THIS VIDEO HAS NO ACTION IT SUX!1111".

Why have I subscribed you guys? You absolutely SUCK! Every single one of your videos is a big fucking fail. I'll stick to carbuyer and Autoexpress. Absolutely PERFECT channels!
@jerrry13157 All seasons are generally worse on wet roads than summers or winters, although it does depend on the brand and they are getting better. There's still no substitute for a set of summers for summer and winters for winters. All seasons will always be a compromise and will be average in the dry and just about get you by in the snow.

Winter tyres are just a way to increase tyre sales..
Instead you could just drive a little slower.
IVe got Pirelli sport tires on my car and in relatively wet/icey conditions I just dont push my car and its fine.
That way you can save the money on such tires and spend it on something else.
Last year I was driving my car in the snow with my sport tires, I had significantly less grip than normal but was able to cope by using the throttle less
i think u never try winter tyres on snow. i agree with u about feeding the throttle, braking etc etc, but its a fact that on the snow, winter tyres keeps u much safer an much relaxing drive...
i have a front wheel drive car with 150hp and 225/45 17 tyres and on the snow its a bit undriveable....with snow tyres it seems to be on dry tarmac :)
@nightmare1983 Ive got the Volvo C30 2.0D and trust me when I say that car used to roll like a tug boat..I got new suspension and am waiting to change the rims but I got 17's currently. I havent had any trouble, when driving you can feel the car has less grip in damp/wet conditions but its manageable.
@r1sh12 Absolute rubbish. There is incredibly conclusive objective data to show that winter tyres are significantly better in wet conditions and more resistant to aquaplaning than even the best summer tyre, and there isn't even a comparison in ice/snow. Read EVO's latest winter tyre test and the summer manages only 0.08G cornering as opposed to 0.3G minimum for even the worst winter tyre on test. I have personally had extensive experience on winters, all seasons and summers in snow and water.
@r1sh12 Well....they are getting that way. With the huge 225 40 R18s on my car, the summers are getting towards dangerous in even heavy rain, let alone snow/ice. It's an expense yes, but owning a car is expensive, and why compromise your safety for the sake of a set of wheels and tyres which will last for a good 4 or 5 years. There's no conspiracy with this at all. It doesn't earn the tyre companies any more money in the long run. You're not wearing your summers out whilst your on winters!
