Reminds me of one of my geldings. He snorts like that noise all the time about things and is always a bit dubious. I have to take it really slow with him with a lot of approach and retreat. - I've found clicker training to be helpful to encourage interest in things. My guy is extra snorty on windy days. I also find not tying helps him not be so nervous. Walk back with him, then when relaxes remove object (and repeat). Just what I am doing.
Yep, that's Chrizz! I have discovered that letting him smell everything first makes him accept things. The funny thing is it's not *new* things... there are classes of things he is always freaked about... what goes on his back, and rocks. And cliff walls. Those rocks, boy... i bet he was attacked by a giant rock monster once.
He's got beautiful ground manners. But he was -unintentionally- abused for almost a year. (his owner became schizophrenic and forgot she owned two horses. They both stayed in their stalls and weren't ridden for 8 months or so. They were being fed and mucked but eventually someone realized she hadn't been out in for ever. That's when we started to lease him.
