  • Great video! 1 thing:In the images of mairs p.staff, seems to me that in the guards the hands are wide in the grip(for solid parries)and in the end of strikes they are closer together(for mange range and power)that would be in accordance with the staff art I practice.Have you tried that?Your hands seem to be always fixed.I'm suggesting a strong grip with the back hand but sliding the front hand.It also helps to rotate the staff more fluidly taking advantage of the forward positioned weight.

  • @frederico4d You are absolutely right, this has made a huge difference for the better! Thank you very much for the advice!

  • Cool. This is exactly how we do them.

  • @haffoc Hi Jay! I'm happy to hear that you and your group have been looking into PHM's Peasant Staff material. How long have you been doing it and what is the context? I'm curious to hear more opinions about the 'system' (if there truly is one) from people who have been experimenting with it as a group.

  • @Djemps We work the first three mainly, or more exactly, elements of them. I have adapted the elements to basic longsword as a set of exercises for beginners. We went thru the remainder a while ago, but stuck mainly with these three. Keep up the good work, guys. I like your stuff. It's inspiring and makes me want to work harder.

  • Good stufff... it's interesting how similar this looks to Portuguese Jogo Do Pao

  • awesome work guys!

  • awesome stuff!

  • すばらしい!

  • Nice !

  • Nice !

  • Wait a second... Is Chuck wearing a fake ponytail so he looks like everyone else?

  • @Djemps Ah, you caught him!

  • @Djemps That's just too funny. Twelve points for the assimilation attempt. =D

  • @hathiphnath

    Thanks for the points!

  • Great work guys. That peasant staff stuff looks fantastic.

    M.

  • This is pretty sweet. Makes one think twice before one takes a simple bit of wood for granted.

I'm actualy trying to learn Bastone (if that's how you spell it [it's an Itlaian short staff I think]) at the moment, so this helps greatly.

    :D

  • @SamGCampbell

Thanks Sam, Have you looked at Alfred Hutton's Great Stick? Hutton based it off of Bastone.

  • @SamGCampbell

Thanks Sam, Have you looked at Alfred Hutton's Great Stick? Hutton based it off of Bastone. Look under essays/ great stick on savateaustralia com.

  • How long are these staffs? They strike me as rather unwieldy. Although connecting would be devastating due to there sheer mass and length. Were they used in dueling or simply as an on-hand personal defense weapon?

  • @colddrake80 P.S. It is a very nice video.

  • @colddrake80 The staves that we are using here are rather small, just over 4.5 feet and relatively thin. The originals would have been thicker, and we've found that once in motion it is very difficult to alter their course. Fighting with these is very different than fighting with a longsword!

  • @MEMAG In that respect they remind me of tomahawks. They gain momentum fast and changing direction mid-strike is very hard.

  • @colddrake80, I always thought (or one of our teachers recomended) that if you take your height minus 20%, you should get one that suits you. So I'm about 175cm tall, so my general purpose staff/waster is about 140cm.

  • @SamGCampbell Well, the walking stick I use would be way to long for this sort of thing. I'm six feet and my digging stick/walking stick/spear[?] is about 7 feet long.

  • @SamGCampbell By the way thanks for the measurement recommendations.

  • it's impressive vid, i donts know this ! thanks for educate me about it !

so long and good luck !

  • Hey friends, yet another great video. To my own surprise, I don't know the medieval tune you have playing in the background, and having enjoyed it very much I'd like to ask if you could post the name of the piece and the ensemble or send me a message.

  • @dtr76 Thank you! The song is "Montard Brawle" from Making Merrye, The Gift of Music.

  • That's very cool! Nice counters. Who performs the background music, btw?

  • Something new for us samurai fanatics to think about WELL DONE.

  • VERY nice! Always enjoy this stuff! ^ ^

  • Excellent work.

  • Yay!! All Eight pages! I honestly had no clue that you guys were just about to release this video when I sent you my private clip of Staff One. How ironic? I love Staff # 6. It was a little confusing to me at first. I agree 100% with your version of it, but I think the initial "Overrunning" strike from "Nebenhut" would start at a much farther distance. Big props to you guys and thanks for the shout out in the credits! ;-)

  • @Djemps

I'll double check my email I didn't see an email from you. Your welcome for the shout out. You where big help with this.
