  • Guy on the bottle looks like paranoia :P

  • 0:29 ooooooooooooooooooo ItZ TighT

  • what a dream line up.

  • orgasmic

  • at 1:46 the guitar payer :D

  • Marcus with a Fender Telebass?? This man can always surprise me...

  • @EggTheBox I don't think it is a Telebass, but probably a 51 Reissue Precison Bass.

  • @thibo62

    a telebass none the less.

  • @tittidee I still think it is a PBass. Shouldn't a "Telebass" need a singlecut body to be considered a "telecaster bass"? But appart from that,I think the other difference between the Fender Telebass and the PBass is the pickup. A Telebass has a humbucker type very close to the neck, while the Pbass has the original pickup configuration (in this case the non-splitted one). But I don't pretend to be a Fender Encyclopedia, you might be right on that one, but I need to be convinced! ;-) Cheers

  • @thibo62

Yes it is a Pbass, as the 'telebass' was the first precision bass. Or first electric bass if im not mistaken.

I havent seen a bass that has the singlecut body of the telecaster guitar.

The bass Marcus Miller is playing in the video has the moosehead and the oldschool singlecoil pickup, hence telebass :D

You may be right about it being a reissue tho.

    Regards.

  • @tittidee there does exist a singlecut tele-shape bass, not coincidentally made by leo fender's company, G & L; it's called the ASAT. And yes, there have been telebass reissues, so it may well be one, rather than an ancient original.

  • She kills!!

  • The guy that was in the intro plays percussion for EVERYONE! He was just on tour with Stevie Wonder!

  • Hey! It's Marcus Miller on bass!

  • @lashknife01 whoops, I mean guitarist

  • please, can someone tell me that there is NOT duck tape on the bridge pickup of that Gibson L-5 CES

  • @9reasy5am yep i wish i could hahaha

  • if the album Headhunters was in 1973, then there's absolutely no way Watermelon Man tune can be from the sixties.....???

  • Herbie recorded it twice. The first time was a straight ahead jazz album, then he recorded this version with the electric band.

  • @Stipe1405 Well I beg to differ.... back in 64 in ...Jr high school... this was the "break" tune that the in-house rock band always played. They had a 3 piece horn section which is what is really need to play it right. It's what all us white kids learned to do the two-step to. Played more like the Poncho Sanchez live version however. It's been a cool song for more than 50 years.

    Peace

  • @Stipe1405 Sorry to break the news to you... try 1960

  • I'll try, but I don't think so.... :))

  • OOOOOOOOO WEEEEE love to find this online, one of the sweetest performances EVER!!!!

  • @neody14

He plays Inderbinen trumpets including the Wood model flug.

  • insane lineup

  • groovy

  • Terri Lynne Carrington is so crunchy with her beats.

  • her pocket is so phat it's ridiculous. she lays it down

  • I love this song.

I'm trying to do some sort of arrangement for my guitar/drums/bass trio to play hah.

It's proving to be a difficult song for my band! (as I expected)

  • Nice slow grove on this Classic. ... To-key-Yo ... Dig!

  • I love this track. To this very day, I still practice to it. Ms. Terri Lyne Carrington kept the funky pulse. Most people don't know that this song was written by a great drummer, Harvey Mason. When this song was written, Herbie Hancock, in my opinion, was at the top of his game.

  • that aint true man. watermelon man is an old herbie track from the 60s that they revamped for head hunters. unless im completely wrong.

  • It "ain't true man..." Meaning, what you're saying isn't true. This version is a new version of Watermelon man. If you juxtapose the two songs, they both go in two different directions - they simply have the same name and are both headlined by the same artist. But Harvey Mason did write this version. Yes, Herbie Hancock did write Watermelonman in the 60s, and yes, the HeadHunters did redo it - and Mr. Mason is given credit was the writer.

  • I love this song. One of Mongo Santamaria's most "covered".

  • greasy... lol

  • AWESOME!!!!!!

  • i'v done my own version of this, how does it end? can someone plz reply asap, thanx

  • on the record the intro is played again

  • The song ends the same way it begins, with Bill Summers, the percussionist, blowing on the beer bottles, along with Harvey Mason, the drummer, and the bassist easing out with that funky groove...I suggest you buy the CD - Headhunters, to really appreciate the song. You won't go wrong.

  • that be the legendary Marcus Miller on bass!

  • damn.....the japanese people are soooooo exposed to great music....lucky them......

  • Response to ddoggycanada's comment.

It's a fortune that comes to them for being such open-minded people.

  • @ddoggycanada This is everywhere. You just gotta be in the right place and the right time for it. haha.

  • Damn That was tight!!!!! I lose track of everyone that Marcus Miller has played with haha.

  • i love the way herbie's switching back and forth and using the keys on each machine!

  • Oh shiiiiit, that's some tight groove right there

  • Is that Roy Hargrove on Trumpet and Spanky on guitar? This is great stuff, it's shame how Americans don't support Jazz like we should. It's disgraceful that Jazz artists have to go abroad to make a deent living. I bought the Headhunters CD about 6 years ago and I haven't stop listening to it yet. It stays in heavy rotation.

  • I 100% agree.

It's still very much alive up until high school, and then Jazz drops out of people's lives nowadays...

  • woooow nice nice very nice song!!!! great herbie!!! Yeahhhhhh

  • Teri Lynn Carrington is so bad

  • bad-ass
