  • why do violinist put there cases on the dashboard?

so they can park in the handycapped parking spot :D

    Zing!!!!, viola ftw

  • If I'm supposed to play that well I'm doomed!

  • 5 people couldn't handle the absolute awesomeness of the viola and violists as good as you are.

  • Comment removed

  • gotta love the viola but the real greatness is the musician performing with it.

  • if you ever have a bored day, will you please make like a tutorial

  • I've got to say...one of the better interpretations of this song on YouTube that I've heard so far, on the violin or otherwise.

  • You are amazing! I'm also doing this as a solo.

Any tips on the triple stop trills?

  • @innvane Hmm, I'm not sure if I trill the same way now as I did when I made this video. But generally with Baroque music, start on the upper note (and on the beat, not before it) - also, some say that the trill should end slightly before the end of the note; in a sense that we hear the actual note at some point and not just the embellishment. With triple stops I generally have the lower notes slightly before the beat, and with that there is some consideration as to where in the bow you're at.

  • I am going to preform this very soon. I'm currently in 7th grade at age 12. But seeing you play this, my confidence is very low, I hope I can match your talent. My teacher says it will be alittle difficult. But my level is high enough to play it.

    One word:

    Bravo!

  • @xXYeuLamXx All the best for your performance - I'm sure you'll do just fine. It's the same for all of us - there's always something out there we like, and hope to emulate. The important point is that this shouldn't put down your confidence, but rather remind you that you're on the right track as you know what direction you're headed!

  • @xXYeuLamXx I played this song in seventh grade too! I'm sure you'll be great.

  • 5 Violinists are jealous of the viola's beauty.

  • nicce im doing this for a solo

  • The dislikes must be from Violinist. This sounds amazing and now I know how it sounds so I can go practice it.

    Thank you

  • This is so good that it's painful for a beginner like me to watch.

  • Tat's my solo for school!!!!!!!!!

  • Wow. Beautiful. You bring out the best in the Viola. (of course Bach rules too! :)

  • Bravo. Love the character of your playing. All the technical stuff was there allowing the listener to concentrate on the music... and music you made!

  • this sounds good! Im auditioning for a college this upcoming sunday.. I was wondering what bowings you use (likie what edition).. bc i dont like the bowings in my book and ive tried changing them haha but i like yours the best.. if you got your bowings from an edition... then i was wondering from which one! If you just made it up ! then i guess ill watch your video a couple more times!

  • The only edition (embarassingly) that I have is the one by Peters which has Simon Rowland-Jones's double editions of the 5th and 6th suites. I'm not really following the bowings though - espeically in this movement. I didn't exactly make it up, but decided which bowings would work towards phrasing and harmonic structure (basically, which ones best emphasize cadences).

  • Nice tone.

    Very nice!

  • You are an absolutely fantastic player. You are very inspirational, as I wish I had talent somewhat like yours. I am a beginer viola player in my grade 9 orchestra, and this is our exam peice.

  • great job!!! i'm playing this piece for my orchestra semester exam, and i have to say i wish you could play as me in disguise for it :D

  • dude im playing that solo 4 my class this wednsday and i could never in a million years be as good as you. i also play viola and compared 2 u i seriously suck. i need 2 practice way more. u r awesome!!!

  • its amazing that, how can somethng be soo beatifull and u cant even see it .... thnks for the video man ... bst of luk

  • superbe ! BRAVO !

  • Made me cry, I once played this suite.

    You have great talent.

  • That's quite a compliment - I'm honoured. Thank you.

  • Hi,do you have a dvd for private lessons? And what string do you recomend for violas.

  • Wow that was beautiful. I love how you play that with ease. though i play the violin by the way

  • very nice playing, and beautiful tone. i like more rigor in the tempo and rhythm in a piece like this. it should dance...

  • The rythm is sorta weird to be a Bouree

  • this is my solo

  • ok, thank you!

  • umm, do you have the sheet music for this,

do you know where i can find it?

  • Its in 1 of the suzuki books. I can get the name 4 you. Um...2mrw kuz i forgot the number. But i kno 4 certain it is on suzuki.

  • really?

    haha

    thank you so much!

  • suzuki book 2. that may b a simpler 1 i am not shure but its there.

  • wrongo !!! its book 3

  • There's an easier version in book 2 as well.

  • it's in suzuki book 3 i played it for my solo. good song

  • Excellent again! If i could play the viola as well as you this is how i would play the Bouree.

  • sweet, clean clear tone. I'm deeply deeply impressed. You make this piece look easy. (I play it on viola as well, it's not the hardest, but hardly the cakewalk you make it appear to be...)

  • Awfully nice of you to say so, thanks!

  • The tempo changes too much. Its a bouree, which is known to have the most strict rythem out of all barouqe music. A gavotte on the other hand can be played like this.

  • I can't find the music for this. Does any one know where to get it?

  • you are very good...i mean your music so good,im also playing viola, im amature, self study...and im studying that piece now..3rd or 4rth book of suzuki isnt?maybe you can teach some of your technique,hopefully..Thanks

  • Perfect. Congratulations!

  • don't mess with the rhythm toooo much, other wise it sounds good.

  • This is an inspiration. Great nuance and control. I just found the music and will practice it. BTW i went to IU (Bloomington) as a piano masters student in 1976 and took up viola at that time. Great memories!

  • Damn.....I have to admit it ...and as a violonist its hard =P this is WAY better then ANY violin version!

    you got skills!

  • Thanks!

  • This is really great. Nothing beats the sound of a viola. I've only been playing the viola for a couple of months and I've really been looking for expressive solo viola pieces but haven't seen many. Thanks for sharing it with us! Do you have any other recommendations? Perhaps something along the lines of Vieuxtemps Capriccio?

  • Sorry for the late reply. There's a CD of purely Vieuxtemps viola music by Roberto Diaz on Naxos, if I'm not mistaken. I'd also recommend Weber's Andante e Rondo ungarese (Andante and Hungarian Rondo), and Hummel's Fantasy.

  • Thank you for the tips! It's so hard to find info like that online (can only take so many hours of random midi files), so I really appreciate it. I'll go look'em up now :)

  • are you a viola teacher in LA?

  • Umm, no... I'm in Indiana right now. Will be back in Malaysia in a couple of weeks.

  • Bravo! You show the true powers of a real viola player!

  • VIOLAS ROCK!!!!!!!lol hey.

  • So what?

  • dude im a viola player .. ive been in the orchestra for 5-6 yrs and i still find this piece so challenging fo me to learn ... its a beautiful song .. i think its one ogf the songs that i wont regret geting stuck on for a few months beacuse its gonna be so worth it ... great song .. great player ... great!

  • he is really good... but one thing. he is composing himself.. when he compose himself that distory what the real meaning of J.S bach wanted to show in the music.

  • I thought that that was brilliant. Excellent execution, definitely of professional caliber. I loved how you kept with the era and made it sound baroque. Yet you were able to make the piece shine and stand on its own and make it sound like the viola was the intended instrument for the piece, a hard thing to pull off because the cello is a hard instrument to compete with in terms of tonal strength and character, but you did so with excellence! Bravo!

  • shure thats good but im playing this for an audition and im only in middle school sure my viola doesn't have that tone

    still a good song

  • Phenomenal playing!

  • oh la la the contrasting character is exquisite

  • Gee, thanks!
