Take a look at my generation. There you will find trains, the Finnish army, the beautiful scenery of Finland, folk music, sailing ship Sedov, martial arts, sports, art exhibitions, animals, animation, a lot of Super 8 films and other interesting stuff!
The Coast Starlight has had a remarkable on-time record in 2009 and into 2010. A new contract with Union Pacific is the cause. I'm kinda disappointed 'cause when I ride from El Lay to See-Attle, the later the train is the more train time I get for the same money. Amtrak charges by the mile, not by the hour, thankfully. So I never care if it's late; if I'm in a hurry, I'll fly.
people always seem to complain when amtrak or any other type of transportation is late, are they going to get inheritance or something?i know when i take the train is to enjoy the ride, not to complain about it,if theywant to be on time get up earlier and drive that way if you are late you can always blame it on yourself or put any other excuse to save you ass, like ohh i had to get gas or the train got a flat tire,so we had to wait, many people have never ride a train and still complain about it
Have ridden the Coast Starlight, L.A./Seattle round trip 8 times in the last 10 years. The 8:00 p.m. due L.A. arrival usually shows up about 12:30-1:30 a.m. Same goes for the Seattle 8:00 p.m. arrival. Most of the delays were waiting on sideings for freight trains.
There's a whole lot of those kinds of crossings still up and running on the UP former SP Sunset Route along Valley Blvd. in the City of Industry here in Southern California. They're my favorite :-)
I don't agree that Genesis is the "best sounding" or "looking" loco as 844Steamtrain asserts, but I can understand why some people would think it is. What is "best" (or "worst") is entirely a matter of opinion. My only concern is: does it do what it's supposed to do, i.e., pull a train safely and on time, assuming track conditions allow it to do so?
I have ridden the Coast Starlight many times and not once has it even been close to on-time. Once I rode from Salem to San Luis Obispo, and thanks to idiotic union rules, engine trouble, and average speeds approaching a fast bicycle, we got there eighteen hours late. That's government for you.
I've saw those two locomotives before in on a Silver Star,And Silver Metoroer train in Fl,before, say,Wonna watch my vid? PLus you have some awesome videos
Right off of HWY 70 in Yuba County. If you type "East Arboga, CA" into google earth, it takes you almost exactly to the spot...just scoll over a bit to the left.

122 pulled our Starlight when we were coming down from Oregon. The train was 5 hours late so we got a very nice trip. (Still shouldn't be late)
