When the shay first came out, Soundtraxx offered a sound decoder that was not a 'drop-in' model. DSD-LC100 something. You had to drill out parts of the frame & body to get it installed :P

I Have that same Shay only it is DC not DCC.

Mine was DC when I first bought it. I converted it to DCC to run on the club layout.

never. My room is cat & dog free. Neither animal is allowed in the train room either.

I don't. I use goo-gone or rubbing alcohol on a paper towel laid across the rails. Then I clean each wheelset with the shay running in forwards.
