Everyone makes mistakes in life. This is the toughest part in life when you realize your not living in fantasy but your living in realization and time counts. I shed a tear sometimes knowing that day, months, years fly by without me ever taking the time to cherish the great moments I had with some of my greatest childhood friends who I have not seen in a long time.
Dany and Dan aren't the first people (young or old) to make a mistake like this and they won't be the last. It is a true tragedy that Dan Snyder paid for their mistake with his life. Throughout it all though, the Snyder family have shown us what true class is.

I know the Snyders. Attended the funeral, tears welled to see the family (Snyders, followed by the ATL Thrashers)WALK behind the hearse. The street coincidentally named Snyder Ave was hugged with a sea of young hockey players all gently tapping their sticks on the pavement as the procession passed. No one was told to do this, it was a moment like no other, these children just instinctively knew to sombrely tap their sticks in tribute to their hero.

To Dany's credit, he was stone cold sober when he crashed the car. They had just left a 'meet and greet' for Thrashers' season tkt holders, and neither one of them had any alcohol or drugs on board.
They had just come from a bar at Phipps Plaza in Buckhead (after the Philips arena event). Heatley admitted drinking at least one beer. Not much, but he was not "stone cold sober."
At the very least, he was incredibly stupid to be driving down Lenox Rd going 80-90MPH with innocent people on board.
Dan Snyder was going to be a great player in this league. Dany Heatley will live with this the rest of his life and he'll wake up everyday and think of Dan. Hopefully every game Dany plays, he plays for Dan and up there somewhere is Dan watching and cheering on Dany, every game. This video was beautiful and may we never forget Dan Snyder.

the debt he payed was the pain he has had to live with for the last 4 years and is still. even dan's parents dont blame him, and they know how much pain dany's in, he even asked to be traded from atlanta to leave behind the agony. trust me, he has payed with debts that hurt MUCH worse than prison, personal ones.

Everyone makes mistakes in life. This is the toughest part in life when you realize your not living in fantasy but your living in realization and time counts. I shed a tear sometimes knowing that day, months, years fly by without me ever taking the time to cherish the great moments I had with some of my greatest childhood friends who I have not seen in a long time.
Rip Snyder. Heatley is a good man.

Dany and Dan aren't the first people (young or old) to make a mistake like this and they won't be the last. It is a true tragedy that Dan Snyder paid for their mistake with his life. Throughout it all though, the Snyder family have shown us what true class is.

Horrible. This is unfortunately what can happen when you make stupid decisions. I also agree that Heatley living through this is punishment enough. It's great what the Snyder family is doing these days as well, and it's great that they hold no hard feelings against Heatley. Really both of the guys that night did the wrong thing by drinking and getting in the car in the first place, and add on top of that speeding.

his alcohol level was way below the limit, it was just bad riving conditions and he was speeding at 80mph not 150 mph

Heatley is the lluckiest guy ever, there no way anyone should have survived that. Unfortuantly, Dan Snyder (we share the same last name) wasnt as lucky and died as a result. Just shows why there are speed limits

I know the Snyders. Attended the funeral, tears welled to see the family (Snyders, followed by the ATL Thrashers)WALK behind the hearse. The street coincidentally named Snyder Ave was hugged with a sea of young hockey players all gently tapping their sticks on the pavement as the procession passed. No one was told to do this, it was a moment like no other, these children just instinctively knew to sombrely tap their sticks in tribute to their hero.

UPDATE 2.4.05: Atlanta Thrashers hockey player Dany Heatley was sentenced to three years of probation after pleading guilty to second-degree vehicular homicide charges stemming from the car accident that killed his teammate, Dan Snyder. Heatley was found to be speeding and driving recklessly, but Snyder's parents urged the judge to not give Heatley a prison sentence. Heatley also will have to give 150 speeches about speeding and its consequences.

I had never heard of Dan Snyder until I was talking about Dany Heatley to my mom and Grandpa. My Grandpa told me he killed his best friend and I was really interested in this because he didn't go to jail. I looked up Dan Snyder and cried for at least an hour because I know how death feels after losing a baby brother. I just want to say that this was a mistake and he shouldn't have died. I hope that Dan's family heals and that everyone who is a fan of hockey finds out about Dan's story.

I will always miss you Dan!!! I remember, when I was in 3rd grade, all the Thrashers came to read to some calsses, and Dan came to my class, and he signed my Thrashers jersey, so his death makes it a lot harder for me!!!

This is such a sad video. I balled my eyes out. I just wish that he didnt die. I feel sorry for Dany who has to live with this guilt everyday. I could barley watch the pictures and for some people this story is a reality. I really admire Dan's parents, after suffering such a great tradgedy to be able to forgive Dany Heatley. I was just wondering if he was driving under the influence of alchohol or drugs?

To Dany's credit, he was stone cold sober when he crashed the car. They had just left a 'meet and greet' for Thrashers' season tkt holders, and neither one of them had any alcohol or drugs on board.

They had just come from a bar at Phipps Plaza in Buckhead (after the Philips arena event). Heatley admitted drinking at least one beer. Not much, but he was not "stone cold sober."
At the very least, he was incredibly stupid to be driving down Lenox Rd going 80-90MPH with innocent people on board.

Dan Snyder was going to be a great player in this league. Dany Heatley will live with this the rest of his life and he'll wake up everyday and think of Dan. Hopefully every game Dany plays, he plays for Dan and up there somewhere is Dan watching and cheering on Dany, every game. This video was beautiful and may we never forget Dan Snyder.
