In 1998 Lance becomes grand tour competitor. (Vuelta de Espana 1998) and performs well in the 1998 World Road race---won by doper Oscar Camenzind.

his bianci year was probably his best. i remember the race "rund um köln" in spring, when he race alone the last 50k and win in front of a bunch of telekom chaser.

and the tour he lost, because he have to wait for armstrong after his crash uphill. this breaks his rythm and armstrong attacks directly after return in the leading group. so he lost the important 1min............
