Actually his hiv can get worse if he dates someone with hiv. Not all hiv viruses are the same. Some are resistant to all (the limited, like 4 or 5) hiv/aids medication.

As NubianGoddessOne pointed out, there are many strains of HIV, and if someone with HIV contracts a different strain of the virus than the one they have they are more predisposed it opportunistic infections and prone to drug resistance. However, NubianGoddessOne was incorrect about pos/neg couples; more commonly referred to as serodiscordant. There are a lot out there. Magic Johnson and his wife are one example.
It would be different if she knew him, before he was infected. However, no woman in her right sane mind would meet someone, know they are infected and risk catching it or passing it on to an innocent child. That is totally irresponsible. Furthermore, there are various strains of HIV that can be passed. So just because you are both positive, still does not mean getting together is the right thing to do. However, your advice to date within your HIV status is very good advice.
