@born2huntforever Peanut butter is all well and good, but what happens when the ants eat it all up before the squirrels get caught. The best way to catch squirrels are early in the morning. Place a double gated "Have-A-Heart" trap with peanuts and sunflower seeds in a jar lid in the middle. Works for me !!
in the past 2 weeks, i've traped 14 squirrels in my back yard. They keep eating the seed out of my bird feeder, so thats what i use in the trap. Now i have to work on traping a cat that keeps craping in my garden.
I started trapping squirrels yesterday and I got 5 victims already. My question is what do you do with the little beasts when you trap them. I've tried relocating them but I've watched where they go and it seems like they' re going back to my house.
Many states do not allow you to release trapped animals. That means, once you've trapped an animal you must euthanize it. Call your state's Department of Natural Resources and they will tell you if you can release the animals or not.
best hing is to euthanize them, it's not practical to re release a squirrel by driving out so many miles, they can track back to the same area and now you have a bigger problem with a trap shy squirrel.
@johnycage180 Well, maybe you should put them in a cat carrier and relocate them in your local park? My squirrels at the house have made their home in the roof, and they've found food in my bird traps, so I'm gonna work on it so that it stays closed and the squirrels won't get out.....
@johnycage180 If you trap & release, take them more than a couple miles away from your home.Squirrels are VERY territorial & will kill any intruders trying to horn in on their food sources & mating pool.Less that two miles away & you are just wasting your time b/c they can find their way back to where they know food and shelter to be.
@johnycage180 Err gonna have to put the little fellaz down. I once trapped 5 and marked em with a lil black paint...I then brought em damn near 15miles away...3 of em returned.
If you are releasing them after you catch them, are wasting your time. Squirrels cover a lot of ground and can come back to your area. It's not practical to drive out 30 miles and relocate a single squirrel, how many times a day will you do this and for how long?
Take the cage with the squirrels in it to a place with water deeper than the cage (pond, river, old tub, plastic container big enough) and simply lower the cage into the water to above the top of the cage, leave it like that for 5 minutes then take it back out and throw the squirrels in sealed plastic bags and into the trash.
A .22 works well for squirrels.

Could you use 110 conibears on squirrels?

unshelled peanuts are excellent bait also. They are easily spotted by squirrels. place loose at front and back of trap.

or you could use a grenade

@wholegrain11ful Sunflower seeds would work well. Probably, pecans would, too.

Every city has its own regulations about firearms, even if it is only a pellet gun. You'd best check before you open fire.

i have tryed alot of that stuff and no luck??? they even stell my poison and alot of it and thay dont die why??? what do thay do with it???
racefan8815 1 year ago
It takes a lot of bait to kill a tree squirrel. Plus, squirrels hoard food and are most
likely taking the bait, but are not eating immediately. This is especially true when you are baiting with meal or bait block formulations.
