But it's not necessary to do that. Anyone who matters in the grand scheme of geopolitics knows that we've been able to do this since the 1980s. Technology like this doesn't just go away. The fact is that this satellite had been damaged and out of control ever since it was launched two years ago and it was close to re-entering the atmosphere. We had no idea where it would crash and the toxic fuel could have killed people on the ground. That's the only reason why we shot it down...simple as that.

Yeh, right. Free markets rely on exploitation which is why it works best in emerging markets. Saturated ones like in developed countries such as the US and Europe are having trouble keeping the laws of supply and demand at equilibrium as more people get educated and the white picket fence is still out of reach. The satellite's orbit was decaying. They predicted it would enter the atmosphere within a few weeks. FEMA has stated that the satellite contained possibly dangerous materials were it to burn up and/or crash.

We were taking out satellites twenty years before they were with our ASAT missile. The difference was it was a two-stage launched from a climbing F-15 and destroyed the satellite with sheer kinetic energy. This one is a sea-launched three-stage and has an explosive warhead.

China didn't hit their satellite in low orbit. So instead of the debris breaking up in re-entry such as the US satellite, their debris is spinning in orbit, casing a hazard to every other satellite.
The Chinese are simply not on par with the US and are very irresponsible.

But it's not necessary to do that. Anyone who matters in the grand scheme of geopolitics knows that we've been able to do this since the 1980s. Technology like this doesn't just go away. The fact is that this satellite had been damaged and out of control ever since it was launched two years ago and it was close to re-entering the atmosphere. We had no idea where it would crash and the toxic fuel could have killed people on the ground. That's the only reason why we shot it down...simple as that.
