Wow.. what memories this song brings back... My cousin and I did a dance routine to this song for a talent show in school when we were about 9yrs old.. We made up our own routine. had matching outfits... it was awesome. Hearing this song takes me back to that wonderful time in my life.. Oddly enough, when we are little we can't wait to grow up and once we get there we want to be kids again!

@nicky196427 If you never heard of pedophiles when you were growing up you must have led an incredibly sheltered life. They have always been around. A man tried to lure my mother into a car for that purpose in 1935 when she was 8 years. A friend when I was growing up was grabbed by a man and drug behind bushes and raped repeatedly at age 9. It's just broadcast now rather than hidden and ignored. That being said, I also think it's just an innocent song and people read wrong meanings into it.

I have been singing the verse My name is Michael.........to my grandkids for a month or so. The 21 1/2 year old wasn't paying any attention to the computer until he heard the verse then looked at me and looked at the computer and stared. It was cute. I change the Michael and say their names. They love it. But My 29 year old daughter-in-law asked where i heard it and couldn't believe it was a real song.......oh, the good old days and the fun music.

Not many people know this,but this is not the original version;this is actually a cover, believe it or not. It was first recorded in 1971 by a singer named Billy Lawrence(don't know anything else about him). The children's part(in B. Lawrence's original) was sung by a children's choir in FRENCH! The chorus went something like" Mama Je'taime.. Mama Je' Taime.." Don't know if the English 'My Name is Michael.." is a translation of the original or not.

I was also about 5yrs old when this came out... I remember hearing this song while riding in a VW bus on our way to the lake... The chorus is all I could remember though... "My name is Michael, I got a nickel, I got a nickel shiny and new" has rolled around in my head every since... It's nice to be able to fill in the rest of the song...
