The Hard Core Macho Man 4WD dudes just don't understand why we love our Foresters, my XT has near WRX performance on the highway then take me where I need to go in more challenging conditions, and parks easily in the car park at work, it's an all rounder.
@391Striker The only difference between a Subaru and any real 4x4 is that they have a LSD in the centre rather than engaging 4x4 which locks the front and rear axel. They go good offroad but like any 4x4 have limitations. The only reason us Subaru nuts do it is because we still want a reliable, safe, comfortable family car or wagon but still be able to go offroad. The look on the faces of people with real 4x4s too when our rigs get to the same spots is pretty awesome too. They arent the best ro
Hang on a sec... all-wheel-drive is NOT 4-wheel-drive or 4x4. If you're going to do something like that I suggest you make sure you know what your vehicle's capabilities are. Could've done some real damage to it
I agree, and I love them for it. It is economical, and while certainly not being a rock crawler, it has much more off road capability than most vehicles on the road. The streets here in the U.S. are covered with "SUVs" that get 15 mpg, have less ground clearance than my Forester, and worse on-road performance. Some are 2WD and it seems that most have never been off of pavement. It's nice to drive something that seems more sensible.
This is the "L" version of the forester, at least I presume so by the 15 inch wheels. The "L" has an open diff. The "S" version has a limited slip differential in the back which may have helped some in this situation. However, a limited slip is still not as good as a fully locking diff. I have a Forester S and love it, but I wish Subaru made them (and sold them in the U.S. where I live) with low range gear boxes and lockers.
@jchoops7yt It may appear to be an "L" version, but it is anything but! This forester is outfitted with an H6 engine that you see in the more powerful outbacks. The forester is not a true off-roader though. You won't find true offroad vehicles getting 26-28mpg. They are made to get you through what you need to get through in economical fashion. Not climb boulders.
super!! front dif lock is not working I see...

@anibalmiranda
Pretty sure he got a prado or a pajero snorkal and had it bent by a plastic fabricater to match the body shape of his car.

Thats where you want a limited slip on the rear.
Great cars - I will appreciate any more Forester off roading videos that you post. I'm a big fan of these fantastic cars: especially the 97-01 ones.
