In california this isn't done any more 2 people are required to do a restraint and you can only stay on the arms and use your legs (if possible) to stop them from kicking.
Theis lady got this job cus shes suppose to love helping children like these! instead what your creating is children coming home with a worse attitude, & a mentally of an abused child. she needs to be charged!
@sidneydcurry1 Compressing the chest by applying too much pressure can suffocate a person. Similarly, if a person is left face down for hours, even without pressure being applied, the person suffers from compression of the chest and can suffocate. Look up the death of a teenage inmate at Bowling Brook in Carroll County, MD. He died from compression/suffocation.

Its amazing that this report was aired in 1996 and 14 years later, even though it is outlawed in most states, some places, even public school systems still perform restraints in the same manner.
Law enforcement and security personnel are still using prone restraint or other techniques that restrict breathing and cause suffocation, cardiac arrhythmias and death.
See the cases of David J. Woodman, Kenneth R. Howe and Daniel J. Ryan, all occurring in Massachusetts in the last few years.
pussies..i do this for a iving and these kids and parents are enablers..except the autistic ones..over all if you aint locked up you wont be subjected to those things..
This type of thing also happens to children not convicted of any crime in "boarding schools" all across the nation. WWASP schools are frequently mentioned concerning this particular issue. Many have died in boarding schools overseas where US children are exported by their unknowing parents to nasty programs overseas. Then they are instructed not to believe the child if he reports anything outrageous, they say it's just "manipulation".
BRU11ROAD, I'm afraid you are mistaken. This is not illegal in the UK, on the contrary, our new coalition government are rushing through legislation to give teachers MORE POWER to restrain and use physical force. My son is a very small 11 year old epileptic and he was "restrained" 3 times in 3 days by two teachers at his special needs school and sustained over 60 bruises very recently. What happened? NOTHING so far! There is an ongoing investigation but my son is suffering. THIS HAS TO STOP NOW!
I used to be in special ed (I have autism) and those folks never restrained me with their arms and legs. They just put me in a vest and that took care of everything.
I work at a place like this, you dont know how these kids are they will kill you, hurt you, have other kids hurt you, its crazy somtimes. I like to put them in seclusion rather then restraints though alot of these kids or wasted air but some you feel you can teach them and feel good about yourself but most are just plane evil
Lethal restraints, that is HORRIBLE!!!!! This isn't discipline, this is OPPRESSION OF CHILDREN!!! I feel disgusted, and the fact that these sick minded people would even dare go this far!!!! THEY should be restrained NOT the poor children who probably dont deserve this stuff to happen to them anyway. That is CHILD MOLESTATION and that is NOT RIGHT!!!! Thank you annam20 for posting this vid, this raises awareness of such incidents. Much appreciated.
In the UK This practice of restraint is against the law people using this method would be sacked on the spot and would never work with vulnerable people again
Please call this coming Tuesday, April 13 and encourage your friends, family and coworkers to participate by dialing the Capitol Switchboard at 202-224-3121 and asking for your Senators to support S.B. 2860.
I work in a psych hospital, and we use Handle With Care, my opinion is that is the only physical restrain technique that ensures the most safety for all involved. But the bottom line is this: When people are not trained properly or don't take the training seriously, it is then when things can go seriously wrong.
I am a special education teacher and these women should be charged with assault.
thatgirlkelly1, I don't think I can adequately express my contempt for your twisted logic. I certainly hope you are not a teacher. I shudder to think that you might actually work with children.
I hate parents. They think they know everything and the everyone out there is going to abuse their little precious. Not really. Teachers get no respect at all. Since when are children (special needs or not) allowed to berate and hit teachers but when teachers are trained to protect themselves, they are abusive? Give me a damn break.
@thatgirlkelly1 I think youre kind of missing the point..... I have to deal with very challenging (mostly violent behaviour) from children with special needs in my job and we are trained how to hold a child propperly, without harming them. The type of restraint used in the film shown is very dangerous as it can restrict breathing and sitting on them can break ribs if it goes wrong.
You are also missing the point aswell that restraint should only be used if absolute necessary on a child!
@imontrial That's because the teachers have no idea how to use restraints. They probably don't have a certificate, but I don't know how these types got hired. Hillary was right when she said they don't know what they're doing.
control but sometimes u struggle for your life cuz u cant breathe. so many kids have died in basketholds that many states have now made that hold illegal. i was in the hospital in 1991 and it was one of the main restraints they used on small kids in hospitals back then because it only needed one staff to use it.
I was in a psyche hospital when i was 16 and I was little (still am) and they would put me in "basketholds" all the time over stupid stuff like that. The staff would get behind me and cross my arms over my chest and the more i struggled to get away the tighter they would pull my arms in front of me.the scary thing is since they are essentially bear hugging u from behind they cant see your face to know if they are holding you too tight..they assume that since u r struggling that u r still out of
I am a Child and Youth Worker, however that is pure abuse what these ppl did. I have been in restraints but ONLY am allowed to use them when the child is phsycially aggressive and is a danger to themselves or others. Also the restraints we do are not intrusive like the ones they show here. My god if I were even to clench my hand or so much as Push a resident I would be fired so fast and could have a lawsuite against me.
I've been in hospitals, I am a Marine and trained in combat techniques, some of those people tried those restraint techs on me and I broke their arm and neck because they did not know what they were doing and I was forced to defend myself. The only thing that saved them was the tasers.
First u idiot if u listen to the vidio the children were being thrown on the floor for pushing a pice of paper on the floor and not blowing there nose. I would stick an knife through there head if they did that to my child.
The use of a restraint should only be used as an ABSOLUTE last resort! There are many other behavioural management techniques that can be used before a restraint. In my experience, each crisis is different. A child could escalate very quickly and while attempts are made to intervene using these behavioural management techniques, the use of restraint could be used quickly or not used at all. They should only be used when the safety of the child, staff or other residents is at risk.
all this crime and juvenille deliquency is happening because these days ppl treat kids like stupid whiny brats who are just a liability
well let me tell you something, kids have brains, they can think and learn, and they didn't ask to be born
if you want the knife crimes and jerks to stop, then parents need to have time with their kids, doctors and dentists need to communicate properly, and schools need to get off their case about homework and test scores
Why do these people even send their children to school. The mothers, or fathers, should stay home with them, to teach and care for them, that way they will never get hurt by anyone.
Actually the Administration should be Institutionalized. The teachers are doing what they were trained to do. This is a serious issue when Administrations do not offer serious training and continued review of their physical management policies.
Cont. I belive that teachers need to know how to properly handle a child who has a behavior problem, like I did when I was little. If people care for us properly, the way we need, we won't have any problems. My problem was that I never understood why I was being punished; I didn't make the connection of a wrongdoing to dicipline- I just saw it as people hurting me for no understandable reason. We aren't crazy, we just think differently so need to be handled differently. Simple!
I have Turner Syndrome, and it causes some behavior problems. Now that I'm 15 I am well over them, but when I was young, I was restrained, because the teachers/principle didn't know how to properly calm me down and stuff. I remember one time when the principle pulled my arms across the front of me to the point it really hurt, so I was yelling because it hurt! What they didn't know was that for me, these things only make me worse! My mom picked me up that day.
SODOMIZE ALL KIDDIE-TORTURERS WITH TASERS AND BURN THEIR SPOUSES TO DEATH FOR BEING IN LOVE WITH SUCH SACKS OF HUMAN SHIT, WHILE LITTLE KIDS STRANGLED TO DEATH ARE CALLED "THE THREAT". I belive in God and turn against Him, knowing I will go to hell, and wishing God would put an end to this because I do not want hell but am willing to take great risks. I am a Christian with TOO much compassion, "insane" is whoever DOESN'T feel like me, HOWEVER much a majority they are.
ok first calm down, the one so called christian here is talking about more violence than anything else. What needs to be done( and I'm sure back when hard copy was on) people were not educated about what to do in classrooms with individuals with special needs, the teacher of course has to think of the other students wealfare too, if a child is lashing out like that, there are measures that can be taken so that no one has to get hurt, we need to educate people not sodomize people. lol
This SHould BE Against the Law!!!! .... If we as parents were to do this and cause marks on our children we would get thrown into jail for abuse what makes the teachers and school special to be able to do this to our children!!!!! they are supposed to be safe when we send them to school not scared... and then teachers wonder why some students want to have an attitude torge them!!!.. teachers are not all the time innocent!!!
