Jackson was a good puncher, but not as highly thought of as Jimmy Wilde from Wales, ranked 3rd hardest puncher of alltime by Ring magazine, weighing as little as 108lbs with 100 knockouts, pound 4 pound he really did punch harder than Jackson. Wilde was also voted Britians greatest ever fighter by Boxing news!
that's a good comfort for a boxer to know they can pull a knockout punch out of nothing when they're on the ropes, when they land, what happened earlier in the fight or how far behind they were on points has no significance, it's the victory that counts.
Obviously the commentator didn't have the joy of watching the Hawk do this month in and month out like a few of us old guys did. This man was a show stopper with both hands. He didn't waste punches. When he hit people it was a bullseye and a lot to be learned by watching him fight. In my white mind this brother was the baddest dude I've ever seen when it comes to BOOM and it's done.
@TheTex2009 I agree with you man, the Hawk is one of my favourite fighters of all, 'cause he landed awesome short hooks with both hands. I think his power was in perfect shoulder moves before the pounches.
Love the way Jackson starts to raise his arm BEFORE Graham hits the floor. He knows Graham is in the hazy land of knockout before he hits the deck. My favourite KO, ever!
obviously we all know Jackson was probably one of the top pound for pound hardest punchers in history. I noticed something, again it may be obvious, Jackson was able to rotate his arms so far back. Look at his shoulder when he throws the punch. His ko of Wayne Powell was very similar. He was able to rotate or bring his shoulder so far back, that Powell to me, would not expect a punch with so much power from that angle. Jesus, it is amazing that he never killed anyone. thanks 4 the upload.
@HammerOfTheSun Naseem Hamed hit harder than Julian Jackson... in respect of weight class. He was a Featherweight who hit hard as a Middleweight. His knockout of Augie Sanchez is one of the greatest knockouts of all time. Makes this a mere after thought.
@NazhitsREALLYHARD Hamed?? Hit harder than Jackson? Let me guess, you're a Brit. Not only was Jackson a harder puncher but he fought and BEAT the better quality of opposition. Do more objective research.
@jperez9805 I have you nincompoop. Jackson got beat by Mike McCallum AND Gerald McClellan. Naseem Hamed had a 18 fight consecutive KO streak over 3 weight classes. ALLAH-HU-AKBAR! Hamed hits harder than Jackson!
@NazhitsREALLYHARD The fact that you mentioned McClellan & McCallum in an attempt to downplay Jackson shows your lack of knowledge. They were fantastic fighters. Jackson came back and had a successful career. It only took Hamed one defeat to retire and stay retired. So much for coming back and vindicating his legacy. Since retirement, Jackson's been inducted into the Boxing Hall of Fame while Hamed almost killed a man, driving wrecklessly and intoxicated. Classy Chap. Cheers, mate.
@jperez9805 Yeah they were fantastic fighters and he got Ko'd by Jackson. Hamed took everything Barrera dished out at him and stayed upright. The fact that you've brought Hamed's criminal conviction into account shows that my point has hit HOME! You stupid dickhead! Criminality has nothing to do with boxing. Tyson, Dempsey etc were criminals too. Hamed is a better, harder puncher than Jackson. He was box office material and delivered on the biggest stage. He was one of the best P4P in his era.
@NazhitsREALLYHARD Hamed took everything from Barrera & stayed retired. A big puncher? Sure. As long as he wasn't facing elite competition. Jackson destroyed a prime & elite Graham with one punch. The 1st time Hamed stepped up in class, he got his ass handed to him. Punching power & high KO ratio means nothing if you can't make it work for you when it really matters vs quality opposition. Barrera proved that in a one sided and easy ass whipping clinic. P4P? Haha, Maybe in the UK.
@jperez9805 Barrera is one of the greatest fighters of the Modern era. Hamed took everything and only lost by a few points. Jackson was schooled by a British fighter who never fulfilled his talents. There's a BIG difference in class there. Fact is, Jackson got Ko'd when he moved up in class and Hamed stayed upright. End of debate.
@NazhitsREALLYHARD Barrera proved my point: He comfortably schooled Hamed, even with the point deduction in the 12th. Punching power means 0 when it's supposed to count. Jackson schooled by a British fighter? Are referring to Graham? The same prime, legitimate Graham that was nearly decapitated in this video? Ring Magazine, otherwise referred to as The Bible of Boxing, ranks Julian Jackson as the 25th Biggest Puncher of All Time. Naseem Hamed?..............46th..............End of Debate.
@jperez9805 The Bible is not valid anymore. The Qu'raan is the book. Hamed hits harder! He hit at least 5 weight divisions above his weight class. He has the more impressive record, 18 consecutive ko's over 3 weight classes. That is a record which may never be broken. Buh bye chinny Jackson! Hahaha!
@NazhitsREALLYHARD Bible? qu'raan? Religious zealot? Hahaha. RING Magazine is the most respected magazine by Boxing experts throughout the world & it rated Jackson 25th and Hamed 46th. Sorry buddy. Thomas Hearns KO'D fighters from Welterweight to Cruiserweight. Do the math, chap: That's 5 weight divisions. Not to mention the fact that they were quality opponents. BTW, Hearns is #18 Biggest Puncher of All Time.
@jperez9805 Ring Magazine is just a bunch of people giving an opinion. It isn't necessarily true. In 1973, Chief-in-editor of Ring Magazine Nat Fleischer did a list of the top ten Greatest Heavyweights of all-time. In that list Fleischer left Ali out of the top ten (everyone else thought Ali was top 3). At the end of the day, everyone is entitled to an opinion. Mine is based on fact, NOT fiction. Hamed was a phenomenal puncher. He could punch from angles which wisdom deemed unnatural.
@NazhitsREALLYHARD In 1973, Ali was still resuming his career after being stripped and finally allowed to fight again. He had just lost to Joe Frazier and hadn't even faced Foreman yet. So for Ring Magazine not ranking him in the top ten, made sense at that point in history. Your opinion is based on an emotional opinion. To each his own. But to obsessively stalk and bash Jackson on multiple videos in order to legitimize Hamed is unhealthy and unbecoming of a true Muslim. Where's your humility?
@jperez9805 Naz wasn't intoxicated when he had the accident,he was arrogantly overtaking traffic on the wrong side over the brow of a hill when he crashed into the other guy. He's the biggest cunt in Sheffield (I live there) and he says he's a devout muslim.....Bollocks! I've seen him drinking lager plenty of times and he's had his dabbles with prostitutes as well. I'm glad I smacked his brother at college when I had the chance. Nazshitretard does'nt have a fuckin clue what he's on about!
@NazhitsREALLYHARD you dont seem to understand that it doesnt matter that he had 18 kos consecutive in 3 weight classes, because of the quality (or lack thereof) of the opposition. He demolished D, C, and maybe one or two B class fighters. Barrera was the ONLY A class fighter he EVER faced and he's punching power, ridiculous clowning defence etc were completely NULLIFIED. Get that in your head. If you put Jackson in with a bunch of D, C level fighters he would decapitate them in comparison.
@k4n31985 Wtf you talking about you stupid IGNORAMOUS! Hamed Ko'ed Steve Robinson (best Featherweight as champion) Kevin Kelley (1997 Fight of the year), Tom "Boom Boom" Johnson and former 3 weight world champion Wilfredo Vasquez. Julian Jackson is the one with C level opposition because no matter what you say about Herol Graham you can't deny the fact that he wasn't good enough to be world champion and he had Jackson in stitches LMAO. McClellan ko'ed jackson too. NOOB!
@k4n31985 When Hamed was champion he was always introduced by Michael Buffer as "Pound for pound one of the best in the world today". You really are an ignorant twat for even trying to debate this issue. Jackson got DESTROYED BY McClellan twice and McCallum and those guys ain't even Marco Antonio Barrera's league.
Barrera only beat Hamed on points and even then it was clear to everyone that Hamed was in decline... he had lost his legendary reflexes and cat like instinct.
@k4n31985 Barrera was the only A class fighter he fought but Jackson didn't even come close to beating any A class competition either... he gt knocked out. The fact is Hamed was a pound fr pound great who unfortunately came along when the big stars like Barrera, Morales and Marquez were all down at Super bantamweight. But there's no denying he was a terrific puncher who lived up to the hype. A future Hall of Famer for sure.
@NazhitsREALLYHARD And this knockout of Herol Graham doesn't come anywhere near some of the greatest knockouts of all time... Joe Louis ko'ing Max Baer... beautiful right hand... Marciano preserving his unblemished record against one of the all time greats in Jersey Joe Walcott... Sonny Liston annihiliating Wayne Bethea in 63 seconds. Mike Tyson fulfilling his destiny as undisputed heavyweight champ with a memorable first rd knockout over Michael Spinks.
@k4n31985 Pacquiao demolishing Hatton with a savage left hand... Mayweather's check hook on Hatton... Naseem Hamed's left hook against Kevin Kelley (he threw it while his bodyweight was going "backwards"). The list goes on and on. PPL like you who just are casual viewers don't know what your talking about.
@NazhitsREALLYHARD wtf does PacvsHatton have to do with Hamed? What does MayweathervsHatton have to do with Hamed? Kevin Kelley is a nobody. You don't seem to get what jperez and I are saying.
Someone give Herol his teddy bear and turn out the lights! The commentary is hilarious. Mind you not all the British commentary was like this. I remember Jim Watt saying all throughout this fight that "Graham puts his chin in places it should not be" and noting that "you need to show forehead to a puncher" not chin. Guess that's why he never became World Champ - for all his skills he just couldn't resist tempting fate.
@strategery101 Joe Louis was not that great of a pound-for-pound puncher. Rocky Marciano, while the most overrated boxer of all time, would be a better example.
I met The Hawk in San Diego back in '93 and I got his autograph and shook hands, dude looked like a heavyweight with big hands. He wrote in the autograph"One God.One Love".
@mkeulr - better get some eyeglasses ole chum. Did you not see the bucket of sweat fly from his head when the punch landed? As clean on the chin as punches come.
Damn. One hitter quitter. Talk about your Caribbean Tropical Punch.
And please stop with the putting on a clinic nonsense. Typical British boxer. Best in Europe, but when they have to step outside the cold continent, they get their clocks cleaned. Bruno, Benn, Graham,Hatton, etc.the list goes on and on... Lewis gets a semi pass because he would show uphalf the time only against over the hill fighters.
@BruceinFalkirk ..yea he did....but against Doug Dewitt(lol) and a past prime Iran Barkley who was coming off of back to back loses to Mike Nun and Roberto Duran.
@destmu ., I agree for the most part...accept for Lewis....dude diid what he needed to do in his era.....the rest of those guys though....agreed. Bunch of paper champs...fighting inferior comp in the UK and then try to snatch a few outside that iisland rock(just like Calfaghe)
Okay. Take a look at the re-play @ :23-:25. JJ is off balance and falling back and to his left as his right hand goes in the other direction. His ass ain't in the punch at all. It's amazing the power it had nonetheless. Again, LOOK AT THE MARCIANO shot. That's an ass behind a punch. All weight coming forward.
Damn. At least markpringle can see what's happening the way it happened. Yeah, it's a solid shot>malsahth>but JJ is MOVING BACKWARDS. You guys want to see the difference of a right hand KO shot coming forward? Pull up the clip Marciano KO of Walcott in their first fight. I rest my case.
thecrazyoftheinsane: Regarding idiocy, you on the other hand leave no question that you are one of those idiots who believe that blogs require rude and hostile communication rather than enjoyable dialogue. That said, my observations are stand and are indisputable. Open your eyes and good riddance.
And the things is, Jackson was 1) moving backward when he threw the punch and 2) only had his arm in to it. Imagine if he had been set when he threw that shot. Graham would have been DEAD!
@drmbowen Are you one of those idiots that think George Foreman used to throw arm punches and "imagine" how crazy it would have been if he put his body into it? Because Julian was set for that punch and it was no arm punch... no boxer throws arm punches.
I remember watching this like yesterday. Herol left himself open for a second and that was all she wrote. Like others have said he was well ahead, but got careless. It's a shame that Herol never won a world title while vastly inferior boxers technically like Gavin Rees, Alex Arthur and Enzo Maccarinelli can call themselves 'world' champions.
@EnglishHuscarl Graham was not better, if he was he would have won. Julian Jackson was a fantastic boxer puncher, it's jus that he stopped boxing and began to slug. If Graham was a better fighter he would have won. He was outboxing Julian like he was a child but the fight in the fight says protect yourself at all times! Let me tell how good Julian was, he knew he was being outboxed but knew he needed one opening and he lured Graham into it. So who's the better fighter, I guess it's the winner
Graham was miles ahead on points too. He was boxing Jackson's ears off and Jackson's eye was shut. He had been given one more round by the referee and then the fight would have been awarded to Graham on a TKO.
Respect to Graham though, he is still very philosophical about the whole thing, but I bet Prince Naz, his gym buddy teased him about it constantly.
@949galaxy Does a split-second lapse in concentration mean that a boxer can't fight? Anyone who knows anything about boxing knows that Herol 'Bomber' Graham could fight - he was schooling Jackson up until this point.
@dipsetno1 Ha ha ha, I laughed hard there too! It was almost like the commentator was related to the boxer. "On no! That's what we were worried about!" I mean the commentator was British and so is Herol so I guess I can see why there was such dismay in his voice.
@junkybabes Julian Jackson is the single hardest punching world class fighter ever,Earnie Shavers,Tyson, whatever, if you knew the sport well enough you would also know that Graham had far from a glass chin
"THE Slap" video on youtube and Caposa5's MMA KO compilations also give great examples of how just the right angle of impact can create a KO - not a lot of strength is needed.
HG's neck was already stretched back about as far as possible and then his brainstem underwent violent rotation. I heard HG was out cold for 5 minutes after this o.O
Apparently, parts of the midbrain are responsible for consciousness & alertness. The way HG's neck was angled and rotating (in many cases attained by the famed "looping overhand right" landing near the tip of the jaw) would have put the largest amplitude of a wave of shearing forces through precisely this area behind the brainstem - temporarily stretching the axions therein, reducing electrical connectivity, and disrupting consciousness.
@itsabird British commentator, British fighter getting KO'd after hitting Jackson all round the ring previous to that. I don't think Jackson even landed a jab, he was being made to miss and being bounced face first off the ropes. It was a boxing master class until that moment. One of the best equalising punches ever as it was for a vacant world title if I recall correctly. Jackson's eye was closed, he was starting to take a real beating and the ref had given him one round, one punch did it.
Graham should have knocked out that ref after he woke up; ref is terrible.
0:30 Commentators - Gee, that was one hell of a shot... Dave I never knew it was like that. They sound like they should be calling golf or something, not a fight.
truley one of the greatest punchers of all time, he was able to put a fighter to sleep with either hand, i would give up anything just to see all his fights in his entire career.
as good as he was, his chin wasnt like his knockout power, he had a bad, he couldn't take punches, all devasting punchers have the same issue, why?
@e8412561 Yeah. Me too. The commentators only focused on Jackson's supposedly bad eyesight before the fight, not mentioning his knockout power. Herol outboxed him for a few rounds then BOOM! Bye.
Herol Graham was totally controlling the fight and had Jacksons eyes closing fast. Everybody was urging him to go in for the finish, and he walked onto a hail mary desperation punch. He was out before his knees buckled.
Many considered him to be the best of the British middleweights of the time, which included Nigel Benn, Chris Eubank and Michael Watson.
I agree with many of the comments below. When seen in the context of the whole fight, this was probably the greatest knockout ever. Jackson looked outclassed and was in danger of being stopped when he unleashed that punch. A single punch that rendered Graham (who had a good chin) unconscious, the moment it landed.
Damn.... Smh

who was the better puncher Hearns or Jackson?
BlackPoisonxX 8 months ago
@BlackPoisonxX Jackson was P4P one of the best punchers of all time, right up there with Joe Louis.
strategery101 8 months ago
@strategery101 Joe Louis was not that great of a pound-for-pound puncher. Rocky Marciano, while the most overrated boxer of all time, would be a better example.

Idiot referee counting out a dead man. Take the fuckin mouthpiece out you idiot, he's practically dead!
beedotgeedot 10 months ago
Not denying that it may have been a knockout punch, however sure didn't look like one. Perhaps a fixed fight ?
mkeulr 10 months ago
@mkeulr - better get some eyeglasses ole chum. Did you not see the bucket of sweat fly from his head when the punch landed? As clean on the chin as punches come.
beedotgeedot 10 months ago
@beedotgeedot Funny you should say that..as I put on my reading glasses and watched it again and see what you mean.

VallaeBoy 9 months ago
@mkeulr
Of course it was a knockout punch. It looked like a knockout punch and it knocked Herol Graham out.
Julian Jackson was renowned for his one punch knockouts
BruceinFalkirk 9 months ago
Lewis gets a semi pass because he would show uphalf the time only against over the hill fighters.
destmu 10 months ago
@destmu
This fight was in Spain so your argument goes out the window.
BruceinFalkirk 10 months ago
@BruceinFalkirk , unless every fighter he listed also fought in Spain....his argument stays in the room.
VallaeBoy 9 months ago
@destmu
And Benn won his first world title fights in America as well.
BruceinFalkirk 10 months ago
@BruceinFalkirk ..yea he did....but against Doug Dewitt(lol) and a past prime Iran Barkley who was coming off of back to back loses to Mike Nun and Roberto Duran.
VallaeBoy 9 months ago
@VallaeBoy
Ah right, it doesn't count then. BTW Iran Barkley still had another win over Thomas Hearns to come.
BruceinFalkirk 9 months ago
@BruceinFalkirk...an also past prime Thomas...but it is what it is right?
VallaeBoy 9 months ago
@VallaeBoy
Indeed. Hearns was past his prime but still the favourite. Styles, however, always make fights as Hearns and Benn proved against Barkley.
BruceinFalkirk 9 months ago
@destmu ., I agree for the most part...accept for Lewis....dude diid what he needed to do in his era.....the rest of those guys though....agreed. Bunch of paper champs...fighting inferior comp in the UK and then try to snatch a few outside that iisland rock(just like Calfaghe)
VallaeBoy 9 months ago
Why was the Ref counting...... Some how I don't think he was getting up before 10 do you
Mccaff1966 10 months ago
@Mccaff1966 - I think he was getting paid by the minute and another ten seconds would have bumped up his paycheck.
destmu 10 months ago
All weight coming forward.
drmbowen 10 months ago

Open your eyes and good riddance.
drmbowen 1 year ago
And the things is, Jackson was 1) moving backward when he threw the punch and 2) only had his arm in to it. Imagine if he had been set when he threw that shot. Graham would have been DEAD!
drmbowen 1 year ago
@drmbowen Are you one of those idiots that think George Foreman used to throw arm punches and "imagine" how crazy it would have been if he put his body into it? Because Julian was set for that punch and it was no arm punch... no boxer throws arm punches.
thecrazyoftheinsane 1 year ago
@drmbowen Fairly sure that not an arm punch mate, looks a fairly solid shot to me
malsahth 11 months ago
@drmbowen Julian isnt moving when he throws the right hand, and i think he has ok body behind it.

Herol Graham works at my school now.
alextankian 1 year ago
I remember watching this like yesterday. Herol left himself open for a second and that was all she wrote. Like others have said he was well ahead, but got careless. It's a shame that Herol never won a world title while vastly inferior boxers technically like Gavin Rees, Alex Arthur and Enzo Maccarinelli can call themselves 'world' champions.
shockedthemonkey 1 year ago
OMG... You never follow a puncher.
TheLos1986 1 year ago
Graham was so much better than Jackson it was embarrassing, but it just shows that in boxing it only takes one punch.
EnglishHuscarl 1 year ago

949galaxy 1 year ago
@949galaxy Does a split-second lapse in concentration mean that a boxer can't fight? Anyone who knows anything about boxing knows that Herol 'Bomber' Graham could fight - he was schooling Jackson up until this point.

@dipsetno1 Ha ha ha, I laughed hard there too! It was almost like the commentator was related to the boxer. "On no! That's what we were worried about!" I mean the commentator was British and so is Herol so I guess I can see why there was such dismay in his voice.

"THE Slap" video on youtube and Caposa5's MMA KO compilations also give great examples of how just the right angle of impact can create a KO - not a lot of strength is needed.
nathanwilefrazier 1 year ago
Although a left hook was used, Floyd Patterson's scary KO of Johannson (also out for 5 minutes) involved nearly identical geometry and accelerations.
nathanwilefrazier 1 year ago
HG's neck was already stretched back about as far as possible and then his brainstem underwent violent rotation. I heard HG was out cold for 5 minutes after this o.O
nathanwilefrazier 1 year ago
Apparently, parts of the midbrain are responsible for consciousness & alertness. The way HG's neck was angled and rotating (in many cases attained by the famed "looping overhand right" landing near the tip of the jaw) would have put the largest amplitude of a wave of shearing forces through precisely this area behind the brainstem - temporarily stretching the axions therein, reducing electrical connectivity, and disrupting consciousness.
nathanwilefrazier 1 year ago
the announcer sounded like he was about to cry.
itsabird 1 year ago
@itsabird British commentator, British fighter getting KO'd after hitting Jackson all round the ring previous to that. I don't think Jackson even landed a jab, he was being made to miss and being bounced face first off the ropes. It was a boxing master class until that moment. One of the best equalising punches ever as it was for a vacant world title if I recall correctly. Jackson's eye was closed, he was starting to take a real beating and the ref had given him one round, one punch did it.

truley one of the greatest punchers of all time, he was able to put a fighter to sleep with either hand, i would give up anything just to see all his fights in his entire career.
as good as he was, his chin wasnt like his knockout power, he had a bad, he couldn't take punches, all devasting punchers have the same issue, why?

e8412561 1 year ago
@e8412561 Yeah. Me too. The commentators only focused on Jackson's supposedly bad eyesight before the fight, not mentioning his knockout power. Herol outboxed him for a few rounds then BOOM! Bye.
andook 1 year ago
Herol Graham was totally controlling the fight and had Jacksons eyes closing fast. Everybody was urging him to go in for the finish, and he walked onto a hail mary desperation punch. He was out before his knees buckled.
Many considered him to be the best of the British middleweights of the time, which included Nigel Benn, Chris Eubank and Michael Watson.
bigheki 1 year ago
I agree with many of the comments below. When seen in the context of the whole fight, this was probably the greatest knockout ever. Jackson looked outclassed and was in danger of being stopped when he unleashed that punch. A single punch that rendered Graham (who had a good chin) unconscious, the moment it landed.
