Continuation of earlier comment!!!! Over the limit--
...to me, it's fascinating Michael has background in landscape architecture. I just finished reading The Devil in the White City, in which the Olmstead himself was a significant character. Olmstead was obsessed with plants and greenery that looked natural--he hated overly organized puffery. Michael's paintings seem a reaction against landscape architecture. Earth tones, perhaps, but scorched earth tonly. Still very compelling!
I really like your ability to get these artists you profile to explain what they are doing in a very concrete way. Your movies at once demystify the artistic process but also help a layman like myself to see how very much goes into it, and how idiosyncratic different artists are.
PS Glad to see you're out of your easel phase, Mike!

Mike is truly talented and I've always admired his artwork. Yes, he does look like Ilya - Mike's a handsome man.

When did he start wearing (yikes) turtlenecks?

He looks like Ilya kuryakin from the show "Man from U.N.C.L.E."

Always so interesting to hear artists talk regarding the mental process and physical method. Another "best of" John Thornton video.
Congratulations to Michael Bartmann..
