  • PS Glad to see you're out of your easel phase, Mike!

  • Mike is truly talented and I've always admired his artwork. Yes, he does look like Ilya - Mike's a handsome man.

  • When did he start wearing (yikes) turtlenecks?

  • He looks like Ilya kuryakin from the show "Man from U.N.C.L.E."

  • Continuation of earlier comment!!!! Over the limit--

...to me, it's fascinating Michael has background in landscape architecture. I just finished reading The Devil in the White City, in which the Olmstead himself was a significant character. Olmstead was obsessed with plants and greenery that looked natural--he hated overly organized puffery. Michael's paintings seem a reaction against landscape architecture. Earth tones, perhaps, but scorched earth tonly. Still very compelling!

  • I really like your ability to get these artists you profile to explain what they are doing in a very concrete way. Your movies at once demystify the artistic process but also help a layman like myself to see how very much goes into it, and how idiosyncratic different artists are.

  • Always so interesting to hear artists talk regarding the mental process and physical method. Another "best of" John Thornton video.

    Congratulations to Michael Bartmann..

  • another great story.....keep them coming

  • This is a fine video--and a really talented artist in Michael Bartmann.
