  • wow hes way to old for her!

  • 6:35 I love how caroline runs that way, woman just had to run and hope for the best these days poor them in those skirts

  • I just love Laura and Almanzo together!! They're one of the cutest tv-couples!

  • Anyone notice that Caroline just keeps wearing that red blouse in nearly every episode???

  • @jecka1982 lol. It's not like they had a variety of clothes back then either...

  • I don' like Almanzo very much, sorry. He's totally different than from the books. In Laura Ingalls books,Almanzo was fine, smart and refined and always ready to help other people. He sucks here contrary to laura's books.

  • OMG I pictured almanzo totally different

  • Beth sounds better than Bessie I reckon.

  • @mustwinder Agreed.

  • @mustwinder was that the original nickname the real almanzo called the real laura?

  • @jecka1982 Yep

  • =__=" I get goosebumps at how Almanzo talks to Laura like she's a little girl... WAY diff from how he starts to sound later on

  • 2 people got run over bu a 900 lb mill stone.

  • 5:40 Somebody did the worst possible thing you can to a married woman..... "You're husband was hit by a 900 pound millstone, and is at the doctor's now. No, I don't know how bad he is."

  • Still my favorite episode :D

  • Charles is like Damn Doc, give me some more of that f-ing Morphine!!

  • 5:20 haaa haaa, love it! Pa gets lambasted by 1,000 pounds of cement, too bad it didn't keep rolling and run over Manly's rig.

  • Saw Manly in a Hardees commercial about 10 years ago, guess he needed to pay the rent, and that big red nose had gotten even bigger. I guess there were so many complaints that the commercial was off the air in a week. People couldn't eat their food after watching him eat it! lmfao

  • He's 10 years older than her.

  • Oh yeah, Pa - hide behind that matchstick door. It'll certainly protect you from the 900 lb millstone.

  • @kbirdusa Oh well, at least he didn't try to put his head down and brace himself for the impact.

  • So that's why he calls her Beth!

  • I love when Pa gets hurt...cause it means we get to see Michael Landon shirtless!

  • Gosh he is so attractive.

  • @TheStacyC

    He was really her husband.

An, there really was a huge age gap between then. 8 )

  • That little stick to hold 900 pounds?

  • beth and manly...nice

  • @EmoWishinStar My favorite LHOP couple, next to Pa and Ma of course.. : D

  • @SistersOfHope when did he die? and how did he die?

  • I believe in the series she's supposed to be 14 or 15 because "sweet sixteen" is towards the end of the season while this one is at the beginning. That would make Almonzo 24 or 25 since he was 10 years older than her.

  • Awww the beginnings of a budding relationship :) It was so cute seeing the love between these two grow over time.

  • Competition between Laura & Nellie.

  • I've always loved the music in this series - especially in this episode. =)

  • Whats the age difference between Laura and Almanzo? :O

  • @Greendaycheese like 10 years!

  • gives her a nickname the first time they talk hmmm wooow arn't they in love

  • "No come on in, come on in!" I'LL GIVE YOU SOME CANDY! jk. sorry. XD I love this show and Almonzooo. :)

  • isn't Almazo kinda too old for Laura?! I mean he looks like he is twice her age!

  • Almanzo & Laura<3 my fav tv couple ever!

  • i agree!

  • I love almanzo... *sigh*

  • If that accident happened in our time, Charles would get workman's compensation payments. And then he win a lawsuit against and get ownership of the mill.

  • I will never forget the episode where albert becomes delirious with dysentery and his hands turn into 2 albert faces screaming at him, then he screams back with camera angle closing in on him, then he runs out of the house. My god that was hilarious, 70's charm, they had to been on shrooms for that one.

  • what the heck is a millstone? what were they gonna use that big thing for?

  • That's what they used for grinding wheat into flour and corn into cornmeal. In other episodes they showed the waterwheel that turned the millstones.

  • yes, you are right. thanks for the info.

  • i loveee the music at 1:28 i think its awesome

aww the beginnings of loveee lol

    i loveee this show

    laura is amazing

  • What is Charles saying at the doctor's office? Caroline visits him and he says....?

  • charles is always getting hurt :(

  • SCS!

  • grace did exist

  • half-pint and manly

  • Gosh I love Laura and Almanzo together!!

  • Charles broke his ribs AGAIN...

  • I freaking love this episode and I love Almanzo! Thank you so much for uploading it! :)

  • what does half-pint mean?

I'm from the Netherlands and my English is not good enough I guess

  • half-pint means, the kid is the middle child of the children.

  • Okay! Thank you!!

  • in that case i am the half pint of my family!!!!

  • still cant get over albert "well run dummy" makes me laugh every time i watch this my husband is so sick of lhop i watch it all the time always have it on when im doin the house work and eveything o manly lmao thats funny as well

  • this is my fav episode eva

  • I didn't know that laura has a brother it didn't mention that she does...they change most of the characters in here..

  • Laura had a brother "Freddie" who died aged about 9mths old.

  • so this movie isn't really correct or as the book have it.. I like the book more because almanzo doesn't act like a baby and the family seems to be living pretty well.

  • In the show it's Charles, and he didn't live more than a couple of months, not sure about the book.

  • yeah in the show, but the real ingalls family never had a son. I know because i was directly married to a decendent of the wilder family.

  • So, Laura, Mary and Carrie actually did exist, but James, Albert, Cassandra and Grace didnt, right?

Also, in which episode did James die?

  • Grace did the rest didn't

  • cool. thanks. i remember my first ever episode i watched and there was a conversation between Nellie and Laura when they were kids and Nellie said "the best thing for you is toilet water" what is that one called?

  • Right. Accordin g to a book I read when was a kid Mr. 0lsen was real but, his wife and kids weren't.

  • Comment removed

  • @TVGIRL5 In He was only ten part 1 or 2

  • @sakunaruful I thought he didnt die in He Was Only TWELVE? Cos there was a scene with him coming back wasnt there?

  • i love that line "well run dummy" lmfao its to good lol

  • I love Laura's reaction when Almanzo calls her "a lovely young woman" at 2:43.

  • I found an error.

    Between 8:30 and 8:40.

Albert called Caroline Mom as opposed to Mother or Ma.

  • lmao true! i wonder if they ever had a cow named bessie?

  • They have = )

  • I don't know why, but Beth seems such an appropriate name for a cow, :)

  • this is the second time, i believe, that he broke an arm. Didn't he break his arm or should in one of the very first episodes. He got injured and couldn't finish a job and his kids and the whole town came to his side and helped him... please correct me if i'm wrong.

  • yea it was one of the firsts episodes he broke some rib and couldnt move his arms up so on

  • r u talkin bout the one where it was raining and he was cold and on his way down he slipped?

  • in 7:19 what is Charles saying? What does it mean?

  • "Stop putting so much starch in my sleeves." It's a joke about the cast being so tight, he busted his arm, so he's got a lot of morphine in him too. Like doc said, he won't make much sense.

  • I think the episodes that Michael Landon wrote himself are the best. =D

  • she is about 14 or 15 here, I'm not sure. And she is 16 or 17 when she marries him.

  • Correct! However, in real life Laura was 18 when she married Almanzo. : )

  • charles said she had to be 18 before she could marry!

  • he did but he relents, in the tv series anyway and lets her marry a little younger. in real life she married at 18.

  • how old is lara when here when she meets many or wahtever his name is? n how old is she when she marries him? thx

  • This explains why she calls him manly

  • I remember reading that their ratings went up whenever Charles had his shirt off! YEP.

  • Same here! : )

  • Oy. Why does Laura flirt with Almanzo so much? And it seems like he's encouraging her! She's 10 years younger than him! Jesus. xD They are really really cute couple though.

Oh boy. And when she says "It's uh. It's Uh...Half Pint." That's really akward too. xD Poor Manly. But when he goes "I certainly can't call a lovely young woman like you Half Pint" Dude. Doesn't he know he's leading her on?! My Gosh!

  • It WAS based on a true account. He was much older than she was. And that was acceptable. Back when, kids weren't kids at 16, they had been working hard, and were ready for marriage. Life expectancy was in the 50's.

  • Yes, I know it was based on a true story. Being a fan of her series, and her life, I studied her and Almanzo. I know that that actually happened. And I know that the kids, when their 16, maybe younger, maybe older, got married, had children.

  • He was just trying to be polite... I do not believe he had a hidden agenda when it came to Laura. Almanzo just saw her as a young friend... That is, in the t.v series anyway... lol In the books, that's a totally different story.. ; )

  • what do you mean exactly? Why in the books is a different story? What is written in the books?

  • Some if not a majority of the LHOP episodes contain material that did not occur in Laura's Little House books.... Little House, the t.v., is based on Laura's true accounts of her life as a pioneer's daughter... I believe, for enetertainment purposes, Michael Landon (and fellow writers/directors of the show) embellished a lot of what truly happened... If you read Laura Ingalls Wilder's books, you will see exactly what I mean...

  • so do they hit it off like straight away in the books?

  • No... Actually Almanzo was quite fond of Laura but it took her a while before she gave into his advances. Also, in the books, it is Almanzo who pursued Laura and not vice versa as you see here in the ti.v series.

  • No... Actually Almanzo was quite fond of Laura but it took her a while before she gave into his advances. Also, in the books, it is Almanzo who pursued Laura and not vice versa as you see here in the ti.v series.

    ===============================

Oh shoot you beat me to it ROFL. Yup she wasn't the one to pursue him, Manly is the one who pursued. :)

  • To add to that;

Laura denied for years that she would ever marry ANYONE, never mind Almanzo.

  • yes Laura was a tomboy but meeting Almanzo made her seem like a typical girl with a sweet side. I suppose all girls can be like that if they're lucky enough to meet the boy of their dreams. even at that age, she knew how to hook Almanzo and his fate was determined. but he was lucky too because she became a famous writer.

  • You're an unadulterated pig.

  • Oh my goodness.. They are so cute! Makes me wanna go home and give my husband a big kiss!!

  • At first I thought they were making it a huge deal when they played music while they were trying to lift the thing. That is, until it ran into poor Pa! I love it when Laura and Almanzo are together!

  • Yes, I do too! I love Laura & Almanzo. Their my favborite couple on LHOP next to Pa & Ma of course! : )

  • ok now i understand y she calls him manly and he calls her beth in the later episodes lol

  • ok now i understand y she calls him manly and he calls her beth in the later episodes lol

    ===========================

Yup Beth because Elisabeth is her middle name. So that's where he got Beth from. :)

  • irl i think its bessie..if am gonna say my middles names like that it would be funny well my full name is=isabella christina karolina=bella,stina,lina..hahaha my sis names would be beth tho, sara elisabeth viktoria..swedish girls;)

  • yes your right! he did call her bessie... as usual things got changed around and in the episodes she was called beth, but i wonder why they changed the nicknames?

  • cuz in the show bessie is what they would call a cow

  • but it was her real nickname! why change it? lol

  • Well i would guess for the show, haha in many shows the cows name is bessie, beth is just more commen i would guess i dont kno really lmfao

  • Because Beth was a very popular name for kids born in the 70's, then there was the big hit by the rock band Kiss (love song) around that time called "Beth." Lets put it this way, it sounded better on TV than Bessie, which is not used anymore.

  • my thing about the issue is her nickname was Bessie in the BOOKS which is what this show is based off on. y change it? who cares if it was the 70's. shows love to butcher small details that were part of the real thing!

  • Well, I guess they felt the name had to be "tv friendly." Beth was a popular name back then, can't tell you how many girls I went to school with (grade school) who were named Beth. The books and the show are not alike at all.

  • The original name from the books was not 'Half Pint'

It was ' Half Pint of sweet cider, all drunk up'

Half Pint was only the shortened version.

  • Half Pint is her nickname, the books always mentioned she was called "Half Pint."

where do ppl get these facts from?

  • Strait out of the books, which I read 4 times each, and I did a speech on these facts.

The full version of it was 'Half Pint of Sweet Cider all Drunk up' the short version was 'Half Pint'

It's like how you don't call someone names Alexandra Alexandra all the time, you call them Alex.

  • Yep, Laura sure has her ways!^^!**!

  • *squee* This is so cute :D

    Thanks again very very much!

  • You're welcome!

  • Laura, you flirt, you! ^^

  • I know... She is practically "all over" Almanzo... LOL

  • Garvey used to play football for the Rams back in the 60's, Merlin was an All Pro several times. Little LHOP trivia.

  • You really know your LHOP mustwinder. I must commend you on your LHOP knowledge! :)

  • if almanzo is 25 here how old is he in the beginning of season 9?

  • If you looked at it from the seasons point of view, Almanzo would be around 28 and Laura 20.

  • am i crazy or does dean seem cuter when he was in season 8 then season 6?

  • Too hard of a question. All I know is Manny is one hunk of burning love! lol

  • oh ya!!!!!

  • He's 25? I was thinking around 21 or so (in the show anyway.)

  • Laura, you crafty wench. Waahaha

  • She's so great!! I love this couple!!

  • Yeah, they are a great couple sweetangel890! :)

  • Still . I don't get why they changed it from Almanzo going after Laura (the book version )to StalkerLaura?

  • I think b/c of Laura and Almanzo's age difference. You have to remember Almanzo was 25 and Laura was 15 when they met.

  • Yep she sure knew how to get MANLY to notice. heheheh I so felt her embarrassment at that. ;))

  • Haha--Laura is very clever in getting Almanzo to notice her!!

  • Very Awesome
