Here's a song to be used as the Official Soundtrack for the End Of The World, whatever it is... People will die whilst crying silently. In the dawn of a new age -- heh-heh -- or in the dead of the night.
@SBMPLYMA WHY ARE YOU SO FILLED WITH HATE???... JUST BECAUSE YOU WERE BORN THE WAY YOU WERE, DOES NOT, DOES NOT GIVE YOU CARTE BLANCHE TO ABUSE OTHERS.. YOU YOUTUBE GANGSTA.. THIS IS NOT COOL..
"Angus dei, qui tollis peccata mundi, dona eis requiem sempiternam."
"Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world, grant them eternal rest."
("Lamb of God" = "Jesus Christ". See Gospel According to John Chapter 1, verse 29; and The Revelation to John Chapter 7, verse 17, and numerous other references.)
This is from Andrew Lloyd Webber's "Requiem", written in loving memory of his father, the organist/composer William Southcombe Lloyd Webber. It is to my knowledge the only "classical" work Andrew has ever written, and may be the only one he ever shall.
@frankyfan94 you'll be ok. I had to sing it at our deputy headmasters funeral. He overheard us sing it and wanted to hear it properly, he never got the chance so his wife asked that we sung it at the funeral. Twas the worst performing situation I've ever been in but so glad we managed it holding hands with tears streaming down our faces.
im in chours and i love the boys vois im a suprano i wanted to be alto but im suprano but its beter thatn not haveing anything wow i just love this song
What is this style of singing called? The singers are singing at a very high pitch, but very pleasing to ears. Would like to hear more of this type/genre. Any suggestions?
@rama44ster There used to exist a style of singing called "Bel Canto" - it's not exactly like this, as this is a modern piece and Bel Canto was a few hundred years ago, but it's very similar; lots of gentle, very high, flowing singing. Try looking it up; Farinelli is a good place to start!
there was a similar song to this (theme) i think it was a Christmas song but the boy was different, had a more modern sound to it. i remember finding it in the same search as this but i cant remember his name or the title of the song... driving myself crazy over this! he's popular but either in another country or different genre. ARGH!
@dolofonos You know nothing about the beauty of this kind of music. and by the way; why do you search for this kind of music when u dont even like it?
It is ironic that you tell me I know nothing of this 'kind of music I have searched for' when the music here shares next to nothing in common with the many other pieces to which its title belongs save for in name. No, it is you who knows nothing of such music or surely you would know that the Pie Jesu is not the creation of Webber, but merely a topic for his musical mockery.
@dolofonos I think you're being unfair. I know its highly fashionable to snub Lloyd Webber, but this is truly one of his best works. Of course, it's nothing compared to Mozart's music, but to call it worse than "Mozart's Farts" is incredibly childish.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I am soooo creeped out by the way the women sort of stares you down.. she has a beautiful voice and all but still don't stare me down like i am a criminal!
right does anyone else agree that female singers rnt bad but that a boys voice sounds so much purer, women seem to all sing with that bloody vibrato style which is very annoying
Too much vibrato in my opinion, way too much actually, but not a bad version altogether. The tempo is quite good. Most of the times it's performed a little on the fast side.
Duela a quién e duela... AMEN!!!
If you do not like the way Sarah sings, you are a habitual complainer. I would rather listen to her singing 'Happy Birthday to you" than any Opera singer.
Yeah, I think I'd go with the Opera singer over Happy Birthday any day. I mean Paul Potts vs. Happy birthday. Weigh them out and get back to me if you can. Tell me what you'd rather have. I like this version just fine, but other people are entitled to their opinions >:C
really the words "Merciful Jesus, that takes away the sin of the world, grant them (the dead) eternal rest forever" isnt 'sad', its enlightening and meaningful.
From the LP sleeve: "Two events set the _Requiem_ in motion. The first was the death of Andrew Lloyd Webber's father in 1982 and the second was a story about Cambodia in an obscure corner of the _New York Times_, concerning a boy who was faced with the choice of killing his mutilated sister or being killed himself. Cambodia has no musical influence on the score, but it did give Lloyd Webber the idea of scoring the _Requiem_ for a boy, a girl and a man..."
I picked up this LP at a Goodwill about 2 years ago and just fell in love with this Pie Jesu. I didn't know there was a vid, but thanks. Whatever you may think of the rest of the Requiem (and I'm not sure yet what my opinion on it is), I think it's pretty hard to hate this particular part of it.
No disrespect intended, but I just am not a big fan of sarah brightman. Just my own personal preference though. I loved the boy soprano in this however.
I'm sorry, but Webber has never written an opera. He has written operettas such as Phantom and Cats. But an opera is a bit different. Verdi wrote opera...you can't deny the difference. Speaking of differences, I'm sick of people thinking Sarah B. is an opera singer. She is NOT. Her voice is MUCH too weak to perform an entire opera. Listen to Fleming, Price, Battle, even Netrebko, if you want to hear a REAL opera singer.
I SO agree. In Norway almost everybody think of Sissel as an opera-singer. I doubt she (or Sarah for that matter) could make it through " La Boheme" or " La Traviata" for example. Not to mention Wagner.
well, its not a verdi but its never ment to be like a verdi....Webber has his own style, for sarah, she has a voice like an angel but she is not a opera singer....she does not have to be one or?
Andrew Lloyd webber's music is of a different time, but just as accomplished if not more-so, Cambiano i suonatori ma la musica è sempre quella, many opera singers would be found wanting in a lloyd webber musical
The text appears nowhere in scripture; rather it is part of the Latin Requiem Mass, falling at the end of the Dies Irae, but only these words: Pie Jesu Domine,
dona eis requiem. Amen. (the Vatican II Council removed the Dies Irae from the Mass in the late 1960s)
Weber added the Qui Tollis Peccata Mundi, which is from the Agnus Dei section of the Mass
For a while, this was my least favorite song on the "Premier Collection" album, but I've eventually discovered what a very sublime and beautiful song it is, and it has since become among my favorite.
The video is great too, though not as dream-like as what appears in my mind when I hear it.
it was onlike 3 seconds or less of the clip that i saw as a montage during the overture of the video/cd "sara brightman live at the royal albert hall"....
no offese to the cute little boy who was an awesome singer,
but when i first saw the video clip, with the sound muted, i thought it was sara and the boy in another phantom or spooky type musical.. i didn't know what they were singing cuz the sound was muted,, i thought maybe she was like the mother of a devil boy or something and they were singing a scary song... kind of like that movie "carrie" or something...
Neh neh, pretty song, but its just not me lol, is that a movie? If so I wanna see it :P Lol yup im obbsesed with movies like that, like stuff from teh jewish and hitler thingy lol not that i like hitler just the movies based on what he did and blah ect
Andrew LLoyd Webber was divinely inspired when he wrote this. Of this I have no doubts. These two singers are also great especially the purity of the boy soprano.
it's too sublime to be true, i'm a glam kind of guy , but this song is too heavenly to leave it behind, i'm obsessed by it, i listen to it every day, the only thing i don't like at it is sarah's nasaly voice, i went to a requiem concert in Romania where i live, and the soprano's voice was diferent, maybe live it sounded mucj better than in this recording
The best version I heard was by Aled Jones alas you can't seem to find it anywhere. By far superior to anything in the last 10-20 years. Aled is most famous for the "Walking in the Air" song from the Snowman.
I love singing this song! Whenever I'm home alone, i always end up singing some soprano song like this (because my family can't stand this kind of music, or sopranos) (which is sad, cuz I'm a soprano...)
This is a late response...I actually am a psych major so I get the insult-it's funny.
However, I was more referring to the quality of the video. So...ask a film major to review it and give you his opinion, I promise 9 out of ten would agree with me.
Nobody can sing this song like Sara..

but when i first saw the video clip, with the sound muted, i thought it was sara and the boy in another phantom or spooky type musical.. i didn't know what they were singing cuz the sound was muted,, i thought maybe she was like the mother of a devil boy or something and they were singing a scary song... kind of like that movie "carrie" or something...

I agree that A.L.W. was inspired when he wrote this. Its absolutely sublime.

I think the little boy looks a bit like Andrew Lloyd Webber personally! :)

oh i totally see it. No really, CCH can't compare to SBrightman, Sarah sings effortlessly, unlike Church.

Andrew LLoyd Webber was divinely inspired when he wrote this. Of this I have no doubts. These two singers are also great especially the purity of the boy soprano.

this is great. lovely boy soprano voice. I thought it was a duet between two women the first time I heared it.

it's too sublime to be true, i'm a glam kind of guy , but this song is too heavenly to leave it behind, i'm obsessed by it, i listen to it every day, the only thing i don't like at it is sarah's nasaly voice, i went to a requiem concert in Romania where i live, and the soprano's voice was diferent, maybe live it sounded mucj better than in this recording

Sounds so beautiful, but the video would be much better if Sarah Brightman would quit flirting with the camera.

ask a psych major what "projection" is

This is a late response...I actually am a psych major so I get the insult-it's funny.
However, I was more referring to the quality of the video. So...ask a film major to review it and give you his opinion, I promise 9 out of ten would agree with me.
