  • That "liquid" was probably condensate, which is a chemical soup of hydrocarbons and other chemicals that is usually found with natural gas.

  • some dumbass people involved in this disaster

  • Far out!!!!That is just a mess, those poor people being test dummies for 2 companies. There should be memorial's there paid by the companies for those who died and their loved and the rescue services, not bare land.I have always loved the American rail system but that's just rude.Cheers for the upload.

  • SP's red n yellow kodachrome loco's were the SPSF merger that didn't happen, but just like the letter's say SPSF, Shouldn't Paint So Fast! Most SP railfan's know this one.

  • When the pipeline explosion occured on May 25th, I could see the flames and smoke from my office when I went outside to refuel my delivery van at the county garage and refueling station. I couldn't believe this happened after that massive train derailment. They didn't mention the part where about 200 or so residents were supposedly cheated by a savvy L.A. attorney named Jim Davis. He has promised them a large settlementy as a result of the twin disasters. But in the end, they got almost nothing.

  • I remember this this happened. I was at work when one of the ladies in the office mentioned it to someone else. I was a delivery driver and upon being sent on an errand, I turned on the radio and they were talking about almost non-stop. When I went home,it was all over the news on tv. What a terrible tragedy indeed! The newscasters dubbed it "Disaster on Duffy Street." Is this particular program available on either VHS or DVD?

  • Boar a tunnel through Cajon Pass. You don't have to worry about this as much then.

  • I think I saw this on TV a few years ago.....

  • if the train goes over 90 mph and has the brake on it will throw the train into reverse

  • @awvr767 I saw n read this entire story the train was overloaded plus dynamic brakes didn't work on more than half of the unit's n it was going over 100+mph. If he would have put the train in reverse it would have derailed sooner.

  • Bet you there bodys were ripped in to bits

  • Does anyone find it silly that when Mayday was renamed Air crash investigation in some countries. This episode was played under the "air crash investigation" title. It's a train.

  • at 18 45 a wheel off its axle was this movie staged never seen a wheel off its axle

  • i like how they use dm&e cars lol

  • I know nobody will understand me, but the reenactment kinda irks me:

    SP 8278 was a "bloody-nosed" SD40T-2, not a high-hood "kodachrome" SD9.

At 14:32, the CGI units are wearing Union Pacific colors?! Seriously? Even the numbers and the SP logo on the side are in UP color and font at 14:28. How did they mix up the paint schemes of two such different railroads?

Yes, the Kodachrome and the merger, but it's 1989 and it's as if they didn't even know about SP's iconic scarlet and grey paint scheme.

  • @alladinmoua Railfans/Foamers understand you.

  • @alladinmoua You're fucking smart :)

  • @alladinmoua LOL @ 14:32 you see a UP SD90Mac which has NOTHING to do with it :P I guess they were too lazy to reskin the 3D models.

  • @alladinmoua I think they were trying to recreate the SP-SF paint scheme. This accident was during the Southern Pacific and Santa Fe proposed merger, The SP started painting the engines a god awful yellow before the merger was approved, The ICC put a kabosh on the merger..

  • @JP4967 Yes, I'm just disappointed.

Two of the locos involved really were painted in Kodachrome colors, but the rest were painted scarlet-and-grey. I'm an SP fan so personally, the whole UP mix-up is just kinda irritating.

I don't mind that they used a high hood diesel for the live-action shots, because I highly respect the old-timer for being a survivor, but not painting the CGI locos correctly when they have a perfectly preserved example right in front of their eyes is completely inexcusable.

  • @alladinmoua I do know and understand what you mean about the colors because Southern Pacific colors were red and gray and they hadn't been bought out by Union Pacific yet.

  • @alladinmoua Good eye!

  • @alladinmoua It's just a re-enactment dude relax...don't be such a Rail-Nerd.

  • that is freaky

  • As I can see....there were MANY mistakes...3 locomotives with problems...the gas company's valves not working, unspecified weight of cars... etc...

    Irresposibility is the main cause.

  • @JoanJettforever LOL....yea. :)

  • @JoanJettforever that was not sopposed to come out of my mouth! and i didn't watch the episode before i posted it so i didn't know why i posted it after so i pressed remove.......

  • @Bassotronics u shut up...dont act smart

  • @TheHarrish18 I guess you're one of the conductors...lol

  • I read in a newspaper that after the derailment the railroad installed a test track where all freight trains must test that they have enough braking to stop the train before the train is permitted to go down that hill.

  • planes crash from the air...this thing is about to take off

  • how was this an "AIR" Emergency?

  • @k9complex It covers all emergency just most are air emergency's
