Better than John Madden going "WELL WHEN A PITCHER WALKS A BATTER LIKE THIS THAT MEANS THE BATTER GETS TO GO TO FIRST BASE AND IF THE PITCHER CONTINUES TO WALK BATTERS, THE TEAM WILL PROBABLY NEED TO SWITCH UP THEIR PITCHING PLAN"
The thing people should remember though is that the Sunday Night Baseball audience, as a whole, isn't necessarily all that advanced when it comes to baseball savvy. Sometimes announcers like to throw in insight like this to speak to those people, even if it's ridiculously obvious to some, or even most.
If you know any sports announcer's name and they aren't a former player, then you must be gay. Regardless of his announcing talent, Joe Morgan is a good guy and one of the greatest players of all time. If you disagree, then you are clearly uninformed.
Hall of Famer. Top 30 player of all time. Smarter than me, you, or anyone else commenting on this vid clip. And BY FAR a better player than me , you, or any other wannabe clown commenting on this vid clip. Disses Sabermetrics openly. Good enough for me, Joe's okay in my book
I loved Joe Morgan. Maybe the problem is that he was best for games with the biggest audiences. I only watch baseball during the playoffs. So Joe Morgan's explanations have always been awesome for me. But if I was a baseball expert and knew the ins-and-outs of the game, I could see how Morgan's comments every single Sunday would be tiresome and annoying. But for occasional fans that only tune in for 15 or 20 games a year, he was the best. He really gets the viewer into the game.
I haven't heard much of Morgan, so I don't really have an opinion on him. I don't understand all the hate for Jon Miller, I think he's pretty good. The best, for me, will probably always be Duane Kuiper. Nobody is as intense and exciting as Kuiper when calling big moments, and Mike Krukow is a very good color man.
How about this unknown who called A's, Warriors, and Raider games and never even got one consideration for the Hall Bill King he's better than anyone listed above or below
great insightful commentary. It's like saying a 3 run homer is better than a 2 run homer because you get one more run than you would have if there was only one runner on base.
I think Jon miller is better on radio, especially giants radio. He truly is exciting to listen to and his soothing voice is great. A very very smart man I might add.
Seriously one of the worst announcers in the history of sports. He might as well be like, "See, I think that you have a better chance of winning the playoff series if you win 4 games before your opponent wins 4 games."
Not only is Joe Morgan the worst color commentator in professional sports, but he also comes off as a very pompous asshole. "If you're a left-handed pitcher and you throw strikes, you're going to get a lot of people out." Really? No Shit, retard! I cannot stand him. I was literally just watching sunday night baseball and I got so aggravated that I felt the need to get on the computer, find a video and vent about him. That's kind of sad.
@Y2jandMannyR4life I've always loved those little long-suffering, Oliver Hardy-esque glances Miller shoots at the camera whenever Morgan starts holding forth.
You New York and Boston sissies aren't fit to breathe the same air that Joe Morgan breathes. Now shut your timid little mouths, buy your bagels and egg creams, and go to the Sissy Gym where you sissy jock sniffers can oil up and worship your drug-addled gods: Giambi, Alex Rodriguez, Manny, etc., etc., etc.
Joe Morgan will be remembered long after you are reduced to ash in the wind.
Joe Morgan is great. Calm, soothing voice and doesn't try to sound too smart. Best commentator in baseball right now. Take your negativity and shove it.
As a Red Sox fan, I always look forward to when they play the Yankees. But when it's a weekend series, I know I'll always be hit with the double whammy national TV deadly duo of McCarver on Fox Saturday and Morgan on ESPN the following night. It's just awful.
@DrTimWhatley Im a yankees fan and so i think i speak for the entire boston/yankees community when i say agreed 1000% hahaha thats always something thought by fans of both teams and agreed upon
If ESPN is watching please get rid of this guy. I hate when the Braves have to play on sunday night baseball because I know I have to be tortured for a few hours by this guy.Just horrible
@xxphreshxx I'm a lifelong Detroiter and Tiger fan, so there's know way I can possibly be objective about this, but you'll never convince me that Ernie wasn't the best ever to pick up a microphone. I miss him every time I watch or listen to a game.
Scully, Kalas, Jack Buck were all great ones too, of course. Jon Miller is merely good on ESPN, downright terrific on Giants radio. But Ernie tops all of them.
Joe Morgan, I thank you for that nugget of wisdom. I mean, how would we ever be able to watch, much less understand baseball, without your sharp insights to guide us down the path of knowledge?
@SFgiantsRMroyals I see almost every game and he does not misprounce names. At times he will confuse a player but that is rare. How many 80 years olds that you know who are still as sharp as him? Not many I'll bet. I've watched many games on ESPN, FOX, TBS etc and none of the broadcasters are anywhere near as good as him. Most are terribly overbiased and repeat themselves. Then you have old farts like Morgan and Miller who make my ears bleed. Who do you think is better then him?
"How many 80 years olds that you know who are still as sharp as him?"
That's irrelevant, has nothing to do with his ability compared to anyone elses. There are worse than Joe Morgan. He says stupid shit, but he also says reasonable things every so often. Ken Harrelson is just dreaful. A proud homer, with awful hick-like chants ONLY for his team. A while ago, Vin was the best by a long-shot. Now, he's just average, mostly due to how slowly and boringly he speaks.
Bias as it may sound, i find the Giants announcers Krukow and Kuiper to be the best. They may be biased at times, but for the most part they are so fair its a little sickening to listen to sometimes, even when they play the Dodgers. They're entertaining, not blatant homers, and they know what they're talking about. Vin USED to be all of that, all on his own.
@OCdodgerfan88 You think jon millers bad? try listening to dennis eckersley..As a red sox fan, hes kinda funny but is wicked biased and makes fun of everyone. hes gone now though.....Thank you rem dog
Yeah you aren't biased at all... Vin Scully sounds like he could die at any minute on the radio. Only reason he has his job still is because his name is Vin Scully.
@DogYummy That is partly true. Primarily he still has the job because he calls a game better than anyone today. Find me someone better today. Go ahead. I can wait all day.
Listen Joe, there are indeed people in world that might not know that very obvious tidbit about walks. However, there is a zero percent chance they are watching the game at that moment or will ever watch a baseball game.
ESPN baseball commentators are the worst, but then again i have the treat of listening to the YES Network crew who in my opinion are the top announcers in the sport.

He always complains about no black players in MLB, and im thinking, what the Fuck does that have to do with the Game Right Now!!!!
Where does it say that a certain amount of black people have to play MLB, there is no Rule saying they have to play baseball.
If black people dont want to play baseball than let it GO morgan.
