Ah right - gotcha, sorry, I was a little confused! Nice to briefly meet you, hopefully it won't be the last time!! What a couple of nights eh - truly amazing!!
I did notice another 2 Carolyns' on the forum lately - maybe we should go for world domination ;))
hi bridget,i totally agree there is no need for people to get aggresive over a song at all,for those of us who have had the priveledge of seeing and hearing Steve perform this live,we know how much emotion goes into his performance and how amazing he sounds in real life ,not off the tv or video,he is just awesome at everything he does not just being jesus.PEACE X
God damnit. The drummer totally fucked this song up!!! He's playing all over the vocals! The drums need to be simple! It's not about him. It's about the vocals!!!!!!!!
I was in the chorus for this episode, it was phenomenal. He spent 10 minutes standing on the stage in silence just to get into character. He's quite the method actor. After he finished, that Joseph reject came on stage to do an other take of "I close my eyes" and it was like "Why bother?". I joke, but Steve definately stole the show.
I just think Ted has more power.... I'm clearly biased too because Ted has always been my favorite and I've seen him live twice. You make good points though... Steve is great... and clearly ALW's favorite.... Ted wasn't for sure... but we can agree the both rock.
I went away bought & watched Neeleys JCS film. He was superb, at that time no one could match him, perfect for the role like i've said before. If you've not seen Steve perform Gethsemane live, he issinging in Greenwich Sun 22/3, I'm going again. At least we can have a civil debate, terrifying how some get aggressive and abusive, no need, Just heard Steve sing Deep Purple stuff with Jon Lord, on YT, brill. This will always be my fav i think. B x
ALMOST as good as Ted, come on... Ted is a legend in his own right , But Steve's acting of this particular song is simply stunning. No other performer has ever given such a moving performance, Ted is great in the film, but on stage Steve is the King, the raw emotion he projects is what earned him the 1996 Variety award i bet, well deserved i say. Sir ALW obviously thought Steve was the man for the job, a real treat for us all to hear and Steve sing this again on YT. Awesome. thanx B x
I think it's beautiful what Paul Nicholas says about his feelings portraying Jesus in the Crucifixion - "I felt so vulnerable that the tears just started to flow..."
This songs is an incredible reminder of the depth of Love our Lord has for us that He would suffer so terribly so that we may be set free from sin and death. Dying, You destroyed our death; Rising, You restored our life. By Your Holy Cross, You have redeemed the world. Amen
this bbc recording just hits me everytime i hear it. Steve's expression and emotions were something else that day. To see him almost stumble with the effort and emotion of the song at the end was gut wrenching. It was captivating. Steve draws you in to the human side of Jesus' feelings in that situation. I would be petrified as well. Steve portrays the raw emotions in the song so well, should've had an award for this performance. Lets start a campaign ..! B x
Wye aye this lad can sing a bit like, in Sunderland too, thats canny like man! A voice in a million, Steve Balasamo is Jesus Christ Superstar. Paul Nicholas ! Superstar? Jesus Christ!.

If you ever get the chance you must see Steve perform this live. The emotion is unbelievable.
His performance of Gethsemane at Hyde Park literally changed my life.

What amazes me about Balsamo is how he just INHABITS this song... even in a showcase... he's Jesus, he feels it... so incredibly moving.

Steve is AWESOME. He is the only one who can compare to Ted Neeley as far as the voice and emotion.
