"A game that almost anyone can play?" Are you kidding me?
I've played a lot of video games, but Dissidia is one of the most confusing mess of BLEH I've ever experienced. Playing through the tutorial felt... I can't even explain it, except that it was the worst tutorial ever. Also, the fact that any character can fly is retarded, it just adds to the general WHY this game inspires in me.
I disagree when he said that the characters turn into cliches at the end of their stories. I think they finally realize what's inmportant to them. The review was great but that statement was a little off.
Ya know, I agree almost entirely about the bad characterization/story. I've watched an LP of it, and...well, it's not good. There's one good part though.
the story is confusing. the main story (getting the cyrstals, defeating chaos, saving the world) isn't hard to follow...but the story BEHIND the story is confusing.
How come people have such problems getting the story? Are people really so stupid as to think of it as a "shell"? Well If so, it still has a better story than any other fighting games half assed "Story" has to offer.
@thegigaking i really enjoyed the story but chaos is a cheap boss and shouldnt be there. its almost impossible to dodge all of his moves and once ou get hit by one move he chains it to some outrageously long attack that breaks you unless youre a good 20 levels ahead of him
@sepirothfreak999 While I agree that he can be a cheap asshole, I think the game wouldn't be complete without him, Hopefully in Duodecim they make his difficulty more reasonable, as they made him harder in american versions, And I only had real problems with him in inward chaos. Then again there was that one time he killed my level 100 character at level 1 with some prick combo that gave no leeway for defense.
@thegigaking hmph im starting to notice theamerican version of games is harder, why is that. like dmc 3 or dmc. and youre right it wouldnt be the same without chaos, one hit killing that asshole with your overleveled god mode character is fun

Dissidia was definatly one of the best games i've ever played! I love the battle system, characters are awsome, music is incredible and theres so much content that im still playing it after a year! =D
"there isn't any online play" that's a lie. XD I play around the world with other Dissidia players everyday with Ad Hoc party for my PS3. it sends out signals to others with the software so that you can play with them no matter how far away you are. it's a totally huge difference from playing by yourself or with people just two feet away from you.
@GpB217 True, but then you'd still need to move the game over to the PS3, considering the fact that the PS3 is your way to the whole world. Plus, your PSP's memory stick most likely won't have enough memory to support putting it on there in the first place.
pretty good video review, I agree about the faults in the story and the occasional camera niggles, but that hasn't stopped me from playing the game on/off for the past year. I bought a psp for it and am still happy with that decision. the only painful thing about this video is how bad the players are... the combat is deeper than the reviewers have the ability to demonstrate.
anyway amazing game, I can't recommend it enough. on a subjective note, Golbez kicks ass.
I was considering getting this. One thing that bothers me? Some of the character voices. Zidane and Squall are two beloved characters. I liked them better when they were just floating text boxes and their personality wasn't buried beneath archetypal sayings and bland voicework...
this game would be the best selling psp game if it had an online lobby room were you can face off against other players, I just don't get why they wouldn't include that feature.... it just dosn't make sense... Overall i think all final fanstasy should have the combat system like dysidia's, don't get me wrong, the whole menu thing were you choose attacks was funn for a while, but it's time for change, and this is definatly the way to go, anyone agree? any1 no why thers no online features?
@bubbabojanglez I don't think I've come across a hand held game with true "online" gameplay. It's most likely that it's just beyond what the current hand held technology is capable of although I did hear rumors that the new Pokemon Black and White may be trying to achieve this. Just give it time. Advancements may be made which might actually make this idea possible.
honestly before this came out i was mixed, i was excited yet hesitant, but then wen i got it, i fell in fuckin love with it, if any1 has a psp, DEF. pick it up, take it from me im VERY picky and i loved this

Dear gamespot: I would like you to know that Dissidia DOES have an online game play capability however it can only be used with the PS3 and its Psp party feature which tricks the psp into thinking the players are near them.
They should had put in Auron, Edge, Tifa, some summonings you could play as like Ifrit and Gilgamesh, Vivi (cuz he is cute), Shadow, Sabin, Vincent, Yuffie, Vargas, Zell, Leon and they should had put in som Kingdom Hearts characters too like Sora, Roxas and Axel
1. The characterization in this game was not bad by any stretch of the imagination. The earlier characters get more fleshed out while retaining their personalities & the drawing point of the story mode is almost certainly going to be the character interaction, because the main plot isn't that special.
2. Cloud's cool & all, but that was way too much emphasis on him.

he said that the characters were shallow, to which I must respond by pointing out that most of the people who bought the game are already FF fans so they already know a lot about all the characters. besides this is a fighting game with a story mode, not an epic story-based game with an extra fighting mode.
I wish that they would make a heavier PS3 version. Need MORE CHARACTERS!!! MORE STORY!!! lol. I was really upset when they didnt add any tactics characters and limited FFXI and FFXII to only two characters. Ramza Vs. Delita? common fight i've been waiting for. They coulda shoved Ashe or Vaan in. And the bad guy list for FFXI is so vast that there would've been so much fun picking. Personally I'd stick Shantotto as a bad guy and bring Lion Aldo or Volker in as a good guy

Even though Ramza knew what Delita was up to, he turned a blind eye. I don't necessarily think that Dissidia should retool any existing characters.
To know that Dissidia is based on the original Final Fantasy. The storyline is rather plain, but it must of been tough to combine 10 epic stories into one...
I watched this review and not once did I see the Warrior of Light, the character who practically deserves ALL the credit for this game.

Seriously though WoL is the best. I wish they had made it so WoL could change job classes or something, instead of just being a Fighter/Knight all the time. Black Mage would've been pretty awesome. Oh well...
I wonder if I should get this or BlazBlue for the PSP. One is more innovative but not that deep in gameplay judging by the demo, which the other is a very oldschool beat 'em up which hopefully is a faithful translation to portable of the best fighting game on the market. :S
I disagree, this was Square's first ever "fighting" RPG and I believe they did a great job on it. the system incorporated provides great fun as you have to constantly plan while fighting your opponent and such. also, the HUGE customization and unlockables make people play for months. granted, being that its Square, i was dissapointed at the story, and there could have been more CG cutscenes but overall, Dissidia is a great game for anyone who likes Final Fantasy

i would like to thank all the people who helped me decide which to choose final fantasy dissidia or assassins creed bloodlines. (by the way i chose final fantasy dissidia)
Hi, I got assassins creed with my PSP (last month), and although it is fun it's definitely repetitive and quickly gets boring, I completed the game in a weekend (about 4 hours) I then traded it for Dissidia (and Daxter) which is infinitely better. I highly recommend Dissidia as the gameplay is extremely satisfying and addictive and because there is so much content you'll be playing it for a while.
Please, please, please!!!!!!! Let the rumors be true and let the game come to other systems!!!!!! I love the gameplay and I never got to play the game.

i think its great but probably for a FF fan more so than anythin else, its a lot of grinding to level up your character especially at the higher story things you have to do and some of the charachters stories are so annoying! but theres a lot to it and it is fun.
Actually Kingdom Hearts has the best story line of any game I have ever played. But then again I never played any of the Final Fantasies besides this one. And this one's story is kind of dull.
Trust me the other FF's are worth playing! The stories from the other FF's are amazing and suck you in at an instance. They only made this game to re-create the Fighting style you see in FF7 Advent Children, I was a bit dissapointed with the story in Dissidia but U have to admit the gameplay is addictive!

It's true that adding other characters from different games may attract more people to play, but from an FF fan's point of view, that's sacrilegious. Dissidia was meant to be a tribute to Final Fantasy's 20th anniversary. It is meant for FF fans and should be kept for FF fans. And they can always make the roster larger by just adding more FF characters. If Square wishes to create different franchise involving all of their company's characters, then that's fine. But Dissidia should be FF only.
i think i seen every characters moves in this review. no need to buy now :/

normal psp 3000 is the way to go. stupid psp go can't play umd so not every psp game is available to them. including new games.

Wow...I only have the DEMO for this game (currently my only PSP game..lo...sad)
And it has kept me interested for hours with only 5 characters to play , 4 levels to play and 2 modes to conquer.

To know that Dissidia is based on the original Final Fantasy. The storyline is rather plain, but it must of been tough to combine 10 epic stories into one...
I watched this review and not once did I see the Warrior of Light, the character who practically deserves ALL the credit for this game.
Warrior of Light: "No Cloud nor Squall would have existed had I not been summoned by the light! Now...Where the Hell's my screen time?!"

Seriously though WoL is the best. I wish they had made it so WoL could change job classes or something, instead of just being a Fighter/Knight all the time. Black Mage would've been pretty awesome. Oh well...

Dissidia has an online-part. You just have to ad-hoc connect your psp to a PS3.

I wonder if I should get this or BlazBlue for the PSP. One is more innovative but not that deep in gameplay judging by the demo, which the other is a very oldschool beat 'em up which hopefully is a faithful translation to portable of the best fighting game on the market. :S

I disagree, this was Square's first ever "fighting" RPG and I believe they did a great job on it. the system incorporated provides great fun as you have to constantly plan while fighting your opponent and such. also, the HUGE customization and unlockables make people play for months. granted, being that its Square, i was dissapointed at the story, and there could have been more CG cutscenes but overall, Dissidia is a great game for anyone who likes Final Fantasy

Hi, I got assassins creed with my PSP (last month), and although it is fun it's definitely repetitive and quickly gets boring, I completed the game in a weekend (about 4 hours) I then traded it for Dissidia (and Daxter) which is infinitely better. I highly recommend Dissidia as the gameplay is extremely satisfying and addictive and because there is so much content you'll be playing it for a while.

His overdrive mode is a match for Cloud for Cloud's Limit-break mode I guess lol Both have Unstoppable attacks in Ex mode lol }:)

i think its great but probably for a FF fan more so than anythin else, its a lot of grinding to level up your character especially at the higher story things you have to do and some of the charachters stories are so annoying! but theres a lot to it and it is fun.

Actually Kingdom Hearts has the best story line of any game I have ever played. But then again I never played any of the Final Fantasies besides this one. And this one's story is kind of dull.

Trust me the other FF's are worth playing! The stories from the other FF's are amazing and suck you in at an instance. They only made this game to re-create the Fighting style you see in FF7 Advent Children, I was a bit dissapointed with the story in Dissidia but U have to admit the gameplay is addictive!

It's true that adding other characters from different games may attract more people to play, but from an FF fan's point of view, that's sacrilegious. Dissidia was meant to be a tribute to Final Fantasy's 20th anniversary. It is meant for FF fans and should be kept for FF fans. And they can always make the roster larger by just adding more FF characters. If Square wishes to create different franchise involving all of their company's characters, then that's fine. But Dissidia should be FF only.
