  • One of the BEST live albums ever! Thanks for letting me attach my video response. It's me and a bunch of other guys that are long-time Rush fans doing a cover version of The Trees. I hope enjoy... and yes, we are not only big Rush fans but complete dorks :) Rock on!

  • I'm not a huge Rush fan, but I do appreciate their musicianship and their last documentary DVD was great. I'm fond of this song though. Great video.

  • Next to 'Xanadu' which is my favourite, this is a one of a kind, it still beautiful after all these years. I couldn't drum like Neil in a million years, they are beyond talented.

  • HATCHET AXE AND SAW! LONG LIVE OPRESSIVE GOVERNMENT! MAKE THEM ALL EQUAL!

  • i loved 2112 man that album brings back memorys thats my rush favorite album ever 2112

  • pure power!

  • 3 incredible musicians for sure they truly are! all bands shuld take lessons from these 3 guys!!

  • geddys bass palying is so awesome sic

  • not biggest rush fan anymore but ill tell u what they get so much awesome music just out of 3 guys incredible band for sure epic!

  • This was Rush in their prime....Alex Lifeson on guitar, Neil Peart on drums, Geddy Lee on bass and vocals....take a good look because it doesn't get better in progressive rock than this...

  • uh...eh...er... um...kinda classic and rare folks...not your usual cock rock fare...or any other genre...no..it's Rush!

  • Ha!!!! 666 likes! Nah, superstition sucks.

  • @Esperant3 lol

  • Rush rock Cleveland 2011 still today they kick ass

  • I heard this song many years ago, loved it, but never really listened to the lyrics.

    The trouble with the maples,

(And they're quite convinced they're right)

They say the oaks are just too lofty

And they grab up all the light.

But the oaks can't help their feelings

If they like the way they're made.

And they wonder why the maples

Can't be happy in their shade".

    Good stuff.

  • people who were blessed that day

  • 3 people are trolls...

  • best played loud ;-)

  • This is the most epic shit I've ever heard

  • 3 fucking justin bieber fans disliked this awesomeness

  • one thing I love about Rush is that their lyrics are CLEAR, CLEAN, and they create a magnificent and MEMORABLE story with their words, and yet they still sound like REAL ROCK with killer guitar work unlike anything we can call "rock" nowadays. We remember their songs and their lyrics because they're creative. (most lyrics today are about the same crappy things over and over again-romance, sex, violence, drugs, being depressed, etc)

  • @PetChickenz Iron Maiden is one of the other bands that tends to have unique themes, especially literature and history.

  • I almost skipped my university formal watching Rush vids

  • what is geddy chanting around 2:44....(actually its about 2:46 or so but i'm giving lead in time). Sounds like "(something) necromancer" ?

  • Crank it Rush Fans!

  • Rush is the highest of the highest..

  • @ 1:47-3:09 only a genius can think of such a non-complicated, stress-melting, beutiful solo. my favorite part, as well as 4:22-4:36- BOTH ARE MY FAVORITE PARTS

  • These guys are the most amazing musicians of OUR age!

Wyld Stallyons? NO - but RUSH music could indeed align the planets, bring harmony and order to the galaxies and result in the best waterslides ever. No doubt about that...

    Rush 4EVER!

  • @alexfattoruso Sometimes they do in concert, sometimes they do montages of different parts of songs that have different rips and chords in them to make it fit together...sometimes they even try switching instruments-Alex on Bass, Geddy on guitar...Neal is a perfectionist though...unless he is doing one of his solos, which he does at many shows, he always plays a song exactly like he did before. He rarely messes up.

  • I've listened to Rush for, uh, 30 years. They taught me a great deal. But you know what I don't get? How they don't get insanely bored of playing the exact same arrangements, note for note, drum fill for drum fill, solo for solo, for so many years. Just seems to me they'd occasionally want to stretch the tune, change it, move it around, play a different form, different solo, etc.

  • @alexfattoruso Why ? You can't improve anything - every single note and pause is where it should be, the awesomeness will be ruined with any changes..

  • GREAT AUDIO!!!!! Thanks for posting! ;-)

  • The raw passion in EVERY single Rush song is unmatched. Geddy truly is a pioneer in the playing of the bass guitar.

  • Sound exactly like the recording studio version!

  • There has never been a band more concerned and adept with their musicianship than Rush. Regardless of one's taste in music (and Rush is not for everyone), the technique that these men grant their craft has never been mached.

  • @arkady714 They are everything that is great about rock music.

  • magic

  • Totally fucking sharing this nugget on FB right fucking now!!!

  • The true message of this song is a shot heard around the world right now.

  • SHUT UP CROWD I CAN'T HEAR THE AWESOME

  • It's great to see no trolls rolling around this vid or almost any other rush vid out there. Just a bunch of fans talking about a great band. Long live Geddy, Alex, and Neil.

  • I saw Rush in 1980 at the Seattle Center Coliseum. Never a better show.

  • @grouse8now I was there too. one of the best times ever.

  • Would you just listen to that crowd! Wow. Wish I was there.

  • Damn Maples ought to go back where they came from!

  • i'm a maple, sad face, wanna choke all oaks to sense!

  • "Exit Stage Left" is Rush at their Best !

  • there is nothing random about their madness..... aren't they really physicists? and timeless?

  • RUSH= GREATNESS.......NUFF SAID!

  • man eye baught the picture disk for this album Hemispheres where a naked man was walking on a huge brain like it was earth.. this is one of my fave tunes..

the moral of the story... man chopped down the maples and oaks.. killed everything

good thing back in the day when this music was running live.. some real power was created... there trouble in the forrest and the animals have fled ...

  • Why does every rush video have nothing but people talking about the R&R HOF. who gives a shit, HOF is a sham they'd be dishonored to be inducted at this point

  • i like alex' little facial expression @ 3:20

he always has some kind of facial action during his licks...

    lifeson handles it*

  • Great song. Neil is the greatest drummer & percussionist. You can hear the wood peckers, pecking on the trees. So creative. You feel like you are right there in the woods. I am with you Maples. I'm a Maple my self.

  • @jim102010 He is in the top 5 somewhere but John Bonnon was the best... way more fluid. it came more naturally to him. Neil really had to work at it to get to where he is.

  • i know that with today's technology it's more convenient for Neil to have all the percussive instruments he uses digitally as opposed to having the actual live orchestral percussion he used to use during this era, but i found it so much cooler when he was like a rock drummer and orchestral percussionist combined...yet he still manages to maintain the same originality , only in a 21st century form ! that's why he's one of my drumming heroes !

  • @blica1 Neil is great. The original percussion instruments he had in the early days were so cool. The chimes, bells, gongs all of them. He really stands out as a unique drummer the way he used those many percussion instruments.

  • Best version of the key board part ever

  • Does anyone know when this concert was?

  • @TonyODonnell01 1980

  • @TonyODonnell01 yes..the Montreal Forum..

  • @TonyODonnell01 yes...the Montreal Forum

  • One of the best bands ever. Nuff said.

  • alex is playing a strat? wow i thought he was a gibson guy. guess if they sound good he plays em.

  • What a great song about social classes.... Nice job with the flangeing in this performance. Brilliant.

  • This is a fine version, but it's not the one on the album.

  • It's amazing that three people can make a noise this brillaint. Then you get pop groups with ten members that wouldn't know a good song if it shat on them.

  • @batmanofni Hahahaha shat is a funny word. Rush make brilliant noise. I enjoyed this comment.

  • 3 people fell out of the trees

  • 3 tmes live 3 in 3 years still piss why did i come hier ta

  • 3 tmes live 3 in 3 years still piss why did i come hier

  • when alex is playing the middle bridge part in 5/8 i don't think i've ever heard a more hypnotic guitar riff in my life from 2:18 to 3:09 and the beginning of his solo....it hooks me in every time from the first time i heard it 20 something years ago.

  • @scootermojo

    Did you say hypnotic?

    watch?v=78D00dYOBrM (La Villa Strangiato - 1979)

  • @scootermojo Agreed

  • @scootermojo: Me too! I'm only 18 so I don't have a history with this song, but the first time I heard the part you're talking about I fell in love with it. It's so peaceful, yet mystical and wondrous at the same time. Beautiful chord.

  • @scootermojo That bridge is truely awesome! That bridge is the reason I learned to play guitar! Soothing, rythmic, ethereal.

  • @scootermojo it's actually in 5/4 time

  • That is one of the finest examples of progressive hard rock you have or ever will see......the bass and arpeggios with reverb...the drums...the song is very cool and set to precocious, funny lyrics...see them on this 2011 tour before they get much older and can't play the incredibly precise and intricate music that they have always played exactly like the studio albums...RUSh is an experience that is like feeling you have witnessed something rare....and beautiful and excellent

  • This is one of the coolest music videos you will ever see...sit back and enjoy...

  • this is the main reason why i like rush. no romace/sex/rape anywhere, just... random objects

  • @pked7173 Sci-fi/fantasy

  • @pked7173 fuckin' seriously

  • @pked7173 rape????

  • @mattymanten I think there's a subgenre called "rape metal" these days.

  • This video's classic! I used to listen to ESL in my Panasonic Ghetto Blaster all night long.

  • Yes & Rush were/ are the only true rock concert artists. All the other were/are merely rock bands.

  • the fir tree

    hans christian andersen

  • whered the classical guitar go??????

  • IT WAS a Great time for rock Music!!!!! (But we did have are Lief Garrets And David Cassideys Don't forget!!!!!!

  • Geddys bass solo is so kick ass I wish I was there. Rush is the best rock band of all time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D

  • prog rock perfection

  • 413 viewers are Rush Fans.

3 viewers are from the Rock Hall of Fame...

  • Rush "AMERICAN IDOL"???

  • the greatest progressive rock band of all time...no doubt in my mind...it's a no-brainer..but only if you see the magic...they have done this now for almost 40 years afterall...Alex and Geddy...with neil coming in at 35 years with the band now...no company...no peers...they stand alone...and they still stand...

  • Man I love this.......

  • Its too bad they don't show "Broon's Bane". You can hear it at the beginning of the vid.

  • This is Obama's favorite Rush song - but for all the wrong reasons.

  • wonderfully sick in such an incredibly wonderful way...and yet uniquely so

  • It's impossible to not play air drums to this song. Go on...I dare you to try it.

  • most musically talented 3 piece ever...

  • Man, Alex Lifeson is probably the best when it comes to acoustic guitar. I could listen to him play that nylon stringed guitar all day.

  • I love you Geddy xddd

  • Geniuos! the best power trio band ever

  • gotta love that 5/4 beat in the middle

  • This is a great song! Theres no band like Rush. I dont care whether they are from Canada, Slobovia, or wherever, Rush kicks ass!

  • @cleastwood44mag greatest things canada brought to us except for celine dion

  • no one has ever done it better. viva la RUSH!

  • Only a genius could make lyrics like this.

  • Funnest band ever.

  • this reminds me of a sweet version of:

    Hold on by Yes

how those males in wigs drown in complete incapacity

the constitution screw up shattering the trees. where r those construction hats/

  • Just saw Time Machine in Pittsburgh and it was their most frakkin' AWESOME concert ever! No man should be able to sing like that at his age lol!

  • Lifeson SHREDS. Rush asked me not to read this, but goddamnit IM GONNA DO IT ANYWAY. I FUCKING LOVE THIS BAND. THEY ARE THE GREATEST FUCKING BAND EVER. PERIOD.

  • The three dislikes are obviously from deaf Commies.

  • 3 people have had their eardrums removed

  • im going to see them on the 25th!!!

  • guys, i just figured something out. Alex + Geddy + Neil = JESUS DX

  • *i ment XD lol sorry

  • RUSH, Don Cherry, Kids In The Hall & Tim Hortons....

    Canada is Great!

    Thank You~

  • @Hankandthetanktops I bet Bare Naked Ladies are Canadian. At least they seem Canadian to me. (I probably heard that they are and forgot that I did).

  • @HonkIfYouLoveHonking For the record.....Now that I think of it I did know that they (BNL) are Canadian, I'm not any kind of fan of theirs so it wasn't an immediately available fact in my mind. .

  • i love RUSH and i love lifeson!-

but on a funny note- i cant help but see the Dumb & Dumber character in lifeson from this performance?... not jim carey obviously, but the other fella... his side kick?

    anyone else?... kinda?

Lifeson kicks the ass that needs kicking though!- as well as Ged and Neil.

  • @HonkIfYouLoveHonking isn't that how it usually goes though~ heh-heh... thats funny!

  • 18 years come along since i saw this exit stage left concert (on on teary and very weary pirate copy ) back in santiago of chile in 1992..

    since then ..

RUSH is being then sountrack of my life..

memories and feeling dance agitated in my sould when their music RUSH trought my senses "..

    i think is love !

  • Fucking greedy ass OAKS!

  • This song is what got me into Rush. My Hubby and room mate played Hemispheres for me and - WOW! I'd only ever heard the radio hits so this was a real eye-opener. Then I heard La Villa Strangiato and my head exploded (figuratively, of course). Thanks for making this available.

  • The section between 1:50 and 3:55 is Rush perfection.

  • @Crust218

I think you made a slight typo. You meant to type 0:00-4:36?

  • @dave8386 HAHA!! I have been corrected. ;-)

  • Exit Stage Left is definitely the best 'heavy rock sound', Rush has ever released... Did I mention that I actually sang backing vocals on one of the songs from this live album..? (Well, me and another couple of thousand people...). As the sleeve notes on the album say:- "A special thank you to the Glaswegian Chorus, for background vovals on Closer To The Heart". Hey, now you can tell your mate's that you know a guy who sang with Rush.. lol

  • @AxlMidas That's cool!! My Hubby, cousins and myself are on the cover. The picture was taken at the Aladdin Theater for the Performing Arts in Las Vegas. That was my first Rush concert. :)

  • @yuga2 Excellent stuff! Okay, let's see if any other commenters are on any Rush albums.. A picture maybe, background vocals......?

  • @AxlMidas OK you sang on the album, the lady was on the cover, big deal, I was Time Magazine Person of the Year back in 2006.

  • @HonkIfYouLoveHonking Shut up dickhead... Go get yourself a sense of humour implant, on second thoughts, go get yourself a brain implant!

  • Comment removed

  • @HonkIfYouLoveHonking Why don't you learn how to write properly you dumb retard.

  • Comment removed

  • @AxlMidas You get raging mad ABOUT WHAT? LITTLE JOKE? and it's I who has no sense of humor???? Wow. And you're too dumb to get the joke and you say I'm the one in need of a brain implant? YOU'RE THE ONE WHO NEEDS A BRAIN IMPLANT.

LOL. No wait, I have a even better idea, why don't you just blow your miserabl brains out with a 12 gauge?

    How's that? Better?

Or does it need more work?

  • I had been a fan for ages and i remember when i went to see these guys play way back in 1984 in Edinborough cattle market. I was still at school and went with a bunch of mates. Amazing band to watch live. The tour was called 'Grace Under Pressure'. Did anyone reading this also go?

  • i miss these good old days when there wasent fucking justin beiber, miley cirus ect... when it was just awsome rock.

  • @MrEyebrowz I am so with you my friend........

  • @MrEyebrowz I just wish i was alive to see those days. I was born in the wrong fucking era.

  • @MrEyebrowz me too!!.....them days are gone forever.

  • @MrEyebrowz I miss those days too.....but those days are gone!

  • @MrEyebrowz Memory FAIL. Dude, this came out in 1978. It wasn't all "just awesome rock". John Travolta had a number 1 single that year with Olivia Newton-John (The One That I want). The Bee Gees had two number 1s. The Village People sent YMCA to the top of the charts. Shall I go on??

  • @markmatson Please don't!

  • Alex Lifeson has done so much for modern guitar playing, so many of the current popular bands cite him as a major influence. Everyone who counts knows how talented these guys are. Thank you Alex, Geddy and Neil!

  • Rush is being the soundtrack of my life..

my memories ans emotions jumps in agitated crazy dance...

when their music RUSH trought my senses "

  • im actually tearing with emotion..................i love these bastards !!greatest canadian treasure ever !!!.

  • what ever hapend to gety lees rickenbocker bass?

  • one word: PERFECT

  • 2 dumbass's diliked this song >_<

  • i heard the cd a lot of times when i was young and now i have that great dvd! :D

  • I have been watching the live concerts on Direct TV and they are awesome! And then I noticed, Getti Lee looks like an owl. I believe his music are a direct fed lyrical program from beyond this planet. He is one of the first alien/human hybrids! Their lyric and music writing is way beyond his time. Fact: Niel Pert is the best drummer in the wOrLd!

  • "something" is passing by at the end of that great music ????

  • Where do you get those stands that hold your guitar up like that on stage?

  • Geddy dances like he stepped on something sharp... Awesome live sound mix on the album. One of the best live albums ever
