  • Really great job man! Working through Rick's licks at the moment, wonderful book, really allows a person to be surrounded by so much creativity and imagination. Great kit, Great sound, Great playing Great player. Sub

    Paul

  • AMAZING SOUND !!! i mean good tuning ...love it

  • the groove you play at 1:36 is very similar to the drum part from the Deftones song Passenger.

  • yeah nice groove mate u play real nice the ghosts are nice & dynamic gr8 drumsound too i must add!!.thanx for sharing!

  • I studied with Rick back in the 80's and he was a real character. This certainly sounds like him Scott! Good job.

  • Highly recommend to study Horacio's "Conversations in Clave" if one wants to master all this stuff.

  • I'm gonna practice this one tomorrow for sure! And now I'm definitely going to check out Rick Gratton....thanks for posting!

  • Thanks Scott. I just learned the mosanbique (sp)...so now i'll go up a notch with this one. your kit sounds so good!

  • Hey thanks for the feedback! appreciated...

  • his position and his way to hold the stick is wrong....u can note that watching this tape...but even so this is a great exersice

  • you mean he's not holding them palms down?

  • There is nothing wrong with how he's holding his sticks. He's holding them French Grip (palms out) and really, the only wrong way to do something is any way that limits you from being the best you can be or that gives you pain or discomfort while playing.

  • great job! any chance you could transcribe that? that would be fantastic!

  • woooooow man I like this

  • Thank you for sharing!

  • Have any of you guys seen Rick play two feet on one kick pedal?Pretty interesting..........Rick is a laugh a real practical joker.......and his wife Maureen is a smokin drummer herself!!Great people..

  • what kind of snare is that?

  • A Gretsch black brass... I love it!

  • Rick's Licks! Love the book! His video was cheesy, but that was the "90's". I loved watching him miss that cymbal hit in his into music. But, nonetheless, one of the best instructional videos out there. He doesn't spend time showing off, but teaching. I transferred my VHS to DVD and divided it in chapters according to the sections in the instruction pamphlet. I'm still learning a lot from it.

  • Yep it is one of the best books around... really takes time to figure it out... I never saw is video? I will see if I can get a copy... googeling now!

  • 喜欢!!!

  • yeah nice dude i transcripted and learned some of ricks 7/8 grooves they too are very nice to play

  • Thanks for the compliments... just hackig away here in Tampa!!!

Yep... I just found the transcript... I learned it a while ago and changed it up a bit... cool groove... I just did it like Gratton w/ lh hh... the guy blows me away... the toughest study book I have used! Rick's Licks... get it!

  • Very nice, I wish I could play it this good! The last two ghostnotes with the left hand should be played on the hihat though if you wanna do it exactly like Rick. The transcription of this groove is somewhere on the Drummerworld site I believe.

  • wat kit do u use

  • Excellent work!!! I love the rhythm of the cowbell and the snare ghost notes are real effective. This truly gives me something to work on. Then I can play it during sound check and impress everyone...

  • Are you using the factory head on that snare? And yeah, awesome set.

  • Using Evans Power Dot - white coated snare head

  • what snare drum do you use?

  • Hey - thanks

I have a black brass Gretsch 5x14... I love it!!! best snare I have ever owned...

  • not bad, man.

  • my goodness your drums sound sweeeeeeeeeeeeeet!

  • Hey Thanks!
