my first truck was a 97 F350 with the 7.5-460 motor and a 5spd, it gets 12-18 combined pending on how i drive, its never broken, and its still my daily driver, you do know that the trition motors(5.4,4.6) havnt changed much since 99, and there still good motors
You can argue about this subject all day long but when it comes down to trucks diesel=1 gas=0 :| sorry bud thats just the way it is. I have a 95 powerstroke and get at least 17+-20+mpg all day long And I have driven a 97 f150 and it was completely guttless compared too the powerstroke. Get a diesel and it will change your entire view of things.
i do, its a 97 F350 7.3 5spd identical to the gasser, i like both trucks, the gasser is smoother and is rated at about 240hp ish, the diesel is only at like 210ish, the diesel can pull a slighlty bigger trailer(not much) and sounds nice, the gas truck is loaded with 500+ pounds of equipment in the bed that isnt removed, so those econ numbers arnt exacly what you would get unloaded. The 97 v6 F150 only had 8 less hp than the diesel so.......
ya.. you had the 7.3.. i had the 5.4... which was WAAAY underpowred for the size of truck.... and you dont get diesels for the HP.. everyone knows that, it's for the torque and better MPGs...... it's easy to get a lotta HP once you get the truck.. but once again ill be repeating myself for the 34524235 time if we get into that discussion

That was my issue, it was definately a dependable truck until I drove it through 3" of water on the road at 55mph for about 10 miles.... We still dont know why but ever since that it got terrible gas mileage and had no power at all..... It was just too underpowered for a 4x4 off-road package four door.. oh well
it sounds like you had a clogged air filter or the mass airflow sensor was damaged, the new 6.2 will fix the underpowering problems with the 5.4 in the 250s

cummins is american made, dodge 2500 and up are built in mexico. my neighbor has four, 92-04, why i dont know he only uses two, and they all say built in mexico on the tag and ive seen it written in peterson 4wd mag and diesel power mag.

All vehicles here in the UK are preprogrammed by the manufacturer. And virtually US trucks sold here are petrol, not diesel. Plus the Brits are better at tuning vehicles than the Americans. Basically your cars and trucks are shit compared to ours!

You obviously no nothing about engines! If you did you would know that for engine to blow out that colour smoke means that there is a possibility the piston rings need changing! A normal engine in good repair will blow out a slighty blue/grey coloured smoke...Not Black! So I'm afraid you are the moron.

And you obviously know nothing about diesel engines. The black smoke is unburnt diesel fuel caused by the owner running a tuner on his truck.
