ight i got a question for u, i got a 2001 cavi 2.2 its a work in progress but i gotta make room under the hood n move my dipstick n radiator hosing how the fuck did u manage ur way around that shit
after driving it with the turbo installed, do you think that it was worth the cash? i'm seriously considering a turbo for mine. i just need some input from someone who has done it.
i just basically had an orgasm... i have my cavalier in the shop right now gettin rebuilt with turbo runin about 7 psi its gonna be sick! but cool video man
@Jrawseome86 i got mine off ebay last week it was 98$ they have alote of thim on there i could not find one nowhere els fit right on the 2.2L i had to run the battery to the trunk and cut the metal battery case off to run the turbo to the side custem fit but it worth it
anyone ever thought of taking one of those oldsmobile aurora V8s and sticking them in a Jbody? probably wont fit without massive mods but would be really cool.
For the money you spend on a turbo kit for these things you can probably find a car on Craigs that has more HP stock for the same amount of cash. I own one myself and have thought about it, but i think the most i will do is fix my exhaust flex pipe and replace the shitty stock brakes with something my gf cant burn off on the highway.
try turbo charging a 2.4, its a bitch, i went way over my budget and alot of modification needed to happen, but hey if anyone needs help on doing it i got it down like butter. email me at randomvillan1@hotmail.com
About how much money did you have to shell out for that turbo kit? And i'm assuming you put it on yourself so you wouldnt have an idea about how much someone would charge to put it on...?
I just did a swap on my z24 to a 2.2 ecotec, put on a stage 4 turbo at 20psi, stage 3 bully clutch, after market rods pictons and rings, as well as took the governor out and gunna strap on a full cat back! nice video tho man, im gunna get mine on here once shes all put back together!
idk i've just seen a grip of cav's that were only 5 or 6 years old with HG's or tranny's or something major that needed replacing. i'm sure if you never abused it and drove it like a grandpa a cavi would last a decent amount of time.
that's what i'm saying. maybe if you tore out every bit of the stock internals and replaced them with high performance internals it might work. but then you still got the block to worry about. and tranny. etc.
@zac41189 the ecotec block is good up to 900hp.. i know this cuz my brother went to UTI, and the tranny would be ok but it would be smart to replace it, and the crank is good up to 450hp
Awesome cavi man! I need to ask you something though, I've been looking for forged pistons for my cavi and somethings for the valve train such as rockers lifters valve springs etc. Where did you find all this stuff? Again very nice cavi
I own a 1999 Cavy and I am planning on dropping a 350 small block in it sideways. The engine has 500 horse right out of crate. Then I plan on putting either a twin turbo charger or a super charger on it. Then headers, true quad exhaust. I'm going to put as much carbon fiber on it as I can remove all unnecessary weight put racing seats in it and convert it to rear wheel drive. I figure it will be between 750 & 800 horse
FLAME sorry dude, only an extremely built 350 will put out 500 hp. Then putting it in sideways ..... good luck, the 3800 GTP motor barley fits sideways in that engine bay and it wont bolt up to the stock tranny with out a converter plate. If you want it to be rear wheel drive, you will need to move the firewall back a lot, and make the hump underkneath the dash much bigger to accomodate for the RWD tranny bellhousing. That frame cant handle that much HP anyways. TRY AGAIN
Thats where your wrong... all I have to do is extend the frame... and yes you are right the 350 is extremely built... and if properly supported the frame can handle it because it will be RWD I won't run the risk of ripping the front end off... TRY AGAIN!
Why would you drop a 350 in sideways if it were going to be a RWD? Why would you bother converting a cavalier to be RWD? If you really want to build a cavalier then go with the 3800 or just stick with the 2.2 or 2.4 it came with. Believe it or not, both engines have huge potential. If you still want RWD then just buy another car because I assure you the plan you have in mind will be just be a complete disaster and/or a huge investment.
Actually. Sunfires/Cavaliers do have potential, your right. But im with JoshxAcoustic with the RWD idea. that would be awesome. their a fairly light car, and i doubt theirs bein a rwd built. But it wouldnt be too costy, you could always go down to your local scrap yard and pick up a small 2wd 4 banger pickup, like a 80's-90's mazda or nissan, and do a body swap.
its more work then you think doing that body swap also the rear suspension has to be swapped a car with leaf springs come on its been done before but its more work then you think
But youll have so much torque crossmember welds would snap, the frame would twist and there would be so much body flex the doors trunk and hood would never close the same. Why do all that work anyways?
@p4286arc yea hes right way to fail at knowing the engine you want to drip in your car lmao a stock ls1 ls2 ls3 and ls6 dont even have 500 hp and carbon fiber doesnt add hp by the way
@JoshxAcoustic dude youre dumb if you do that, i also own a 99 cavy, and it takes down 5 speed 305 camaros like nothin, youre gonna torque the frame if you drop an engine like that into it, and you will have just wasted 7-8 thousand dollars.
@JoshxAcoustic You need to do A LOT more research before you just start rambling. Like the other guys said the frame won't hold that much power, nor will the suspension, fuel, body. You can just throw a ton of power in a car w/o reinforcing or upgrading other things.
nice looking cavy, but i wouldnt have wasted money on the 2.2 ohv you should have swaped for 2.4 or eco, cause its just a really bad weak engine and lacks alot of power
honda sucks!!!!! my 2200sfi ohv beats vtec shit all day...i live in orlando and if you have a honda and you need your ass handed to you let me jnow??!!??
the primary reason honda is more preferred for tuning is cause it has a sleeker look both inside and out were the cavalier isn't as nice looking on the inside and out and i am talking all stock both chevy and honda in the right hands can both be a power full car but both will require alot of work
same but i am not a fan of the bubble look on cars so i own a 1992 cavalier convertible so i am getting ready to put a vader body kit on it this summer
Cavaliers suck dick. These are quotes from reviews: Overall reliability hasnt proven to be so hot either, at least not according to Consumer Reports magazine. The Cavalier and Sunfire are far from the best used cars available and many drivers look down on them.
my 2.2 can beat the shit out of v tec crap all dat long!!!!!hondaaaaaassss suck balls!!! at least bring a tc or somthing with a little more balls then a honda!!! a honda? hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah!!!!!!!!!
Despite the apparently low 71hp per liter it still has something that civic will never have, torque. Also hp/liter is a retarded measure of power. Its lbs per horsepower that really matters. 03 Z06=8lbs per 1hp, 03 Civic si=17lbs per 1hp. Also the room for improvement on the stock ls1 v the stock k20a3 is in favor of the ls1 by hundreds of hp. Now tell me which is the better designed engine? Dont play the "its just a 4 cyl" card either because look at what those 2.0l mitsu enignes can do...
thats not an eco but an ecotec can put down 1200 hp on stock insides look it up! this car is a 2200 sfi ohv and it can put down 500 hp on stock crank but only about 350 on stock top end....v tec sucks and thats a fact.....id like to see you take a v tec and run 1200 hp on stock guts??? that shit will never happen!!!ecotecs have the 4 banger record for drag race anyway look it up!!!google the shit out of anything i have just sead....!!!!...
Thats a load of bs. 1200hp on a stock ecotec engine? Ecotec's in cavaliers can handle up to 270-280hp before shit needs to be changed. The 1000hp GM Ecotec had completely custom internals. At 280hp you can say bye bye to the rods and pistons, then at 500hp the crank goes south. The block can hold around 1000hp but to get to that point the insides are no where near stock.
you are out of your fucking mind if you think any 4 banger can hold 1200hp on stock internals. You can't be trusting anything on the internet because anybody can post shit on the internet, you have to look for reliable information. You don't even know how to spell, you think anybody is going to believe you? And for the record, vtec does not suck, there is plenty of 11 sec vtec daily drivers out there, but you never see that from an ecotec.
btw. for all you haters....a FULLY STOCK 2.2ohv Or 2200 can handle 6-8 #'s easily before engine damage develops. and i have personally seen some serious numbers come out of these cars. i own 3. let alone however many that are putting down the same numbers in j-bom (j-body of michigan), and yes, with the right configuration, 2 big valves will kill 4 smaller ones. get educated on the subject before you try being a professional. n00b.
hey im from st louis in got a 2001 ive done some stuff to it! i was wandering where you got the rockers and other engine internals cause i want to do the same but maybe nitrous instead of turbo! please let me know if you can steve
yeah, im so waiting to throw a rod on a completly bulit motor, maybe you will be behind me when my eagly h-beam rod blows out, impails, and destroys your completly aluminum d16.
Ha you faggot, you dont know what it can handle. 20 psi isnt anything for a fully built engine. The valve train is fully built and everything else, wait why am I wasting my time on you ..... bye hater!
If You Have A 2nd Gen. Z24, You Do Not Have The 2.2. They Only Came With V6's. If It Is A 3rd Gen. It Is Slightly Possible. I Believe Some Came With The Eco, Not Positive Though. If Not, You Have A Fake Z24 On Your Hands.
Its actually the 2200, which is very similar to the 2.2, but not identical. This is still a ongoing project but it will be crazy when its done. Over this winter im doing a complete engine overhaul, the only stock piece left will be the block.
ur out of ur god damn mind if you think the 2200 POS is anything alike to the 2.2 ecotec, the 2200 engine was a failure, when GM redesigned the engine for the cavalier to be used in the newer models, they didnt take anythin from the 2200 when building the 2.2 ecotec l61...
When he was refering to the 2.2 it wasn't the Ecotec. He was comparing the 2200 to thee 2.2 OHV engine. I have seen ppl run good amount of boost in those two engines (2.2OHV and 2200)
Nice sound man, I will do the same to my cavalier, got the same motor, but I don't really know whats the potential, you try it on the dyno jet? I want to break the 300 hp barrier too, what turbo you got? how much boost?
I have a 16g, and Im going to push 18-20 psi, but the motor is fully built! The only stock thing in it is the block. The 2200. 2.2 and 2.4 have very good potential, but they are very expensive.
Yeah I guess, I just spend like 1300 only in internals and stuff, but I don{t really know where to buy a turbo at a good price, I think im gonna buy piece by piece, but I don't know, for now I only got like 1500 more or less, so I will like to have some advice in where to buy and stuff...
No you dont have to, but I would recommend it! In the video the cam was stock but im getting a JBP turbo cam. If you want to push 10 psi, I would get the eagle rods and wiseco pistons like I have. Im rebuilding it as we speak with a P&P head, turbo cam, lightened crank, dual valve spring, high rev lifters, chrome moly pushrods, 10 degree retainers, 1.6 roller rockers, and some more stuff. Should be done next summer!!!!!
During the video it was hitting about 4, but when its done and fully tuned, it will be around 18-20, so far I have put over 7500 into the engine, and I just recently pulled it out, to add some more parts!
I havent been on the dyno yet, but in two weeks I will know, Im guessing between 280-320, Im really hoping to break 300, and if I don't, Im going to do more mods till I do, but I think 20 psi and methanol should do it!
Hey man sounds good... i have a 2.4L turbo cavalier at 11psi for now... i was wondering what kind of blow off valve that was? cause mine shit the bed so i need a new one and yours sounds pretty good...
Sounds nice bro. Im building a custom turbo for my 02 2.2l ovh cavy. Stock pistons ? wont that pressure fry your pistons ?. I dont plan i running to much psi about 7. will i be ok with stock pistons ? Nice set up though sounds really good.
I made my own manifold out of stainless and I didnt think about my dipstick being in the way, but when I installed it, it cleared everything! I do make the manifold for $400 so if you know anyone interested, let me know! Thanks for watching!
I see that your oil dipstick is still in the stock position, if I am not mistaken. I had to bend mine to install my turbo. What did you do, how did you manage to put your turbo in with out moving the dipstick?
By the way it sounds real good... I love your BOV!
Hey man I have the same car, and i am running 5 psi on my setup, and I can't get my blow off to be that loud. What kind of blow off do you have, or what did you do to make it that loud?
ight i got a question for u, i got a 2001 cavi 2.2 its a work in progress but i gotta make room under the hood n move my dipstick n radiator hosing how the fuck did u manage ur way around that shit

At 280hp you can say bye bye to the rods and pistons, then at 500hp the crank goes south. The block can hold around 1000hp but to get to that point the insides are no where near stock.
Pro60modman 2 years ago
you are out of your fucking mind if you think any 4 banger can hold 1200hp on stock internals. You can't be trusting anything on the internet because anybody can post shit on the internet, you have to look for reliable information. You don't even know how to spell, you think anybody is going to believe you? And for the record, vtec does not suck, there is plenty of 11 sec vtec daily drivers out there, but you never see that from an ecotec.

what kind...and size of turbo the one that u have on this car???
99cavy99 3 years ago
so ur kit is pieced up how did u do it im interested??????
AbOy927 3 years ago
just buy everything seperatly. I made my manifold out of stainless, and custom downpipe and exhaust!
I make many things for the cavalier and sunfire. Suspension parts as well ..... rear tie bars and front k members.
p4286arc 3 years ago
anyone know where to find a turbo kit for an automatic 2001 cavalier? its almost impossible to find
Motorcycles7 3 years ago
make one ..... this isnt a kit, its all pieced together? kits are bad! you dont get all the stuff you want or need!
p4286arc 3 years ago
in the video mine is automatic, but its getting swapped for a manual soon!
p4286arc 3 years ago

bleaksavage z24 have a 2.4 liter in them
03srt400hp 3 years ago
The Z24 featured a 2.8, a 2.3, a 2.4, and a 3.1 in different model years, FYI.
rcflem 3 years ago
yes, the 3rd gen does, they also came with a 2.3L quad 4 in '95 only. like i said, the 2nd gen cavaliers came with v6's
BleakSavage 3 years ago
btw. for all you haters....a FULLY STOCK 2.2ohv Or 2200 can handle 6-8 #'s easily before engine damage develops. and i have personally seen some serious numbers come out of these cars. i own 3. let alone however many that are putting down the same numbers in j-bom (j-body of michigan), and yes, with the right configuration, 2 big valves will kill 4 smaller ones. get educated on the subject before you try being a professional. n00b.
BleakSavage 3 years ago
hey im from st louis in got a 2001 ive done some stuff to it! i was wandering where you got the rockers and other engine internals cause i want to do the same but maybe nitrous instead of turbo! please let me know if you can steve
ozzzzy81 3 years ago
what a waste you will be seeing your rods very soon
maplelaffs 3 years ago
yeah, im so waiting to throw a rod on a completly bulit motor, maybe you will be behind me when my eagly h-beam rod blows out, impails, and destroys your completly aluminum d16.
p4286arc 3 years ago
nice sony explode deck faggot you dont have to worry about that shitty deck explode any speakers but you might explode your engine you ass napkin.
seamless4 3 years ago
2 valves per cylinder that engine is a joke buddy invest money in a car worth while a d16 would put out more power.
seamless4 3 years ago
2 big valves is the best. 4 valves per cylinder this is stupide
phano12 3 years ago
d16 put out more stock than that piece of shit turbod he will get a couple runs before he pukes a rod

a ha 20 psi that push rod engine couldnt handle that you faggot
seamless4 3 years ago
Ha you faggot, you dont know what it can handle. 20 psi isnt anything for a fully built engine. The valve train is fully built and everything else, wait why am I wasting my time on you ..... bye hater!
p4286arc 3 years ago
i got a z24 but it aint got a 3.1 it has a 2.2 wtf i might try a turbo for fun till the swap
davison1021 3 years ago
If You Have A 2nd Gen. Z24, You Do Not Have The 2.2. They Only Came With V6's. If It Is A 3rd Gen. It Is Slightly Possible. I Believe Some Came With The Eco, Not Positive Though. If Not, You Have A Fake Z24 On Your Hands.
BleakSavage 3 years ago
lol dude i switched out the 3.1 fi for a 2.2 lol only cause i did not have the time to rebuild3.1 but neways got me a sentra
davison1021 3 years ago
Is that the OHV 2.2 or the DOHC Ecotech 2.2? I've got a '97 with the OHV 2.2 and wouldn't mind having it sound like that.
LoveMyZJ 3 years ago
Its actually the 2200, which is very similar to the 2.2, but not identical. This is still a ongoing project but it will be crazy when its done. Over this winter im doing a complete engine overhaul, the only stock piece left will be the block.
p4286arc 3 years ago
ur out of ur god damn mind if you think the 2200 POS is anything alike to the 2.2 ecotec, the 2200 engine was a failure, when GM redesigned the engine for the cavalier to be used in the newer models, they didnt take anythin from the 2200 when building the 2.2 ecotec l61...
balmung892003 3 years ago
When he was refering to the 2.2 it wasn't the Ecotec. He was comparing the 2200 to thee 2.2 OHV engine. I have seen ppl run good amount of boost in those two engines (2.2OHV and 2200)
FriedGames 3 years ago
not a failure an economique engine idiot and the head was the failure cause the ecotec just switched heads
davison1021 3 years ago
Nice sound man, I will do the same to my cavalier, got the same motor, but I don't really know whats the potential, you try it on the dyno jet? I want to break the 300 hp barrier too, what turbo you got? how much boost?
skangel10 3 years ago
I have a 16g, and Im going to push 18-20 psi, but the motor is fully built! The only stock thing in it is the block. The 2200. 2.2 and 2.4 have very good potential, but they are very expensive.
p4286arc 3 years ago
Yeah I guess, I just spend like 1300 only in internals and stuff, but I don{t really know where to buy a turbo at a good price, I think im gonna buy piece by piece, but I don't know, for now I only got like 1500 more or less, so I will like to have some advice in where to buy and stuff...
skangel10 3 years ago
did you have your pcm reconfigured? if so where did you get it done?
boostedcavi97 3 years ago
I dont have it done yet, but when I do im going to CRT Performance in Norwalk OH. They will use HP Tuners to flash the computer.
p4286arc 3 years ago
Nice car and turbo sounds great.
99cavy99 3 years ago
I want to push around 10psi. you think i would need to do anything to the head? And what cam do you have?
boostedcavi97 3 years ago
No you dont have to, but I would recommend it! In the video the cam was stock but im getting a JBP turbo cam. If you want to push 10 psi, I would get the eagle rods and wiseco pistons like I have. Im rebuilding it as we speak with a P&P head, turbo cam, lightened crank, dual valve spring, high rev lifters, chrome moly pushrods, 10 degree retainers, 1.6 roller rockers, and some more stuff. Should be done next summer!!!!!
p4286arc 3 years ago
I dont have an insert, its just the regular hks ssqv
p4286arc 3 years ago
What insert do you have in your bov?
boostedcavi97 3 years ago
yo what psi are you running in that? and how much do one of them go for?
GarkBrothers 3 years ago
During the video it was hitting about 4, but when its done and fully tuned, it will be around 18-20, so far I have put over 7500 into the engine, and I just recently pulled it out, to add some more parts!
p4286arc 3 years ago
sounds clean bro
robotsandtrash 3 years ago
what kind of turbo kit i that, i have a jdm yet to be put in, with my car being automatic you think i could still get over 250hp?
anthonyhunter22 3 years ago
Its not a kit, its pieced together. Mine is an automatic and im looking to push 320 with methanol.
p4286arc 3 years ago
Sounds quick
How much hp?
Chevyguy2003 3 years ago
I havent been on the dyno yet, but in two weeks I will know, Im guessing between 280-320, Im really hoping to break 300, and if I don't, Im going to do more mods till I do, but I think 20 psi and methanol should do it!

it is an hks ssqv ..... thanks
p4286arc 3 years ago
Sounds nice bro. Im building a custom turbo for my 02 2.2l ovh cavy. Stock pistons ? wont that pressure fry your pistons ?. I dont plan i running to much psi about 7. will i be ok with stock pistons ? Nice set up though sounds really good.
danpro62 3 years ago
sounds nice man

7 will be fine on stock internals. However I dont have them, I got wiseco pisons and eagle rods!

hey awesome sound man. i just got the t3/t4 for my 99 cavalier 2.2. Is there another way to contact u about this manifold u can make?
redline340dk 3 years ago
stock position if I am not mistaken. I had to bend mine to get my turbo in. How did you manage to install your turbo without moving your dipstick?
By the way it sounds real good!... I love your BOV!
guitars415 3 years ago
I made my own manifold out of stainless and I didnt think about my dipstick being in the way, but when I installed it, it cleared everything! I do make the manifold for $400 so if you know anyone interested, let me know! Thanks for watching!

I see that your oil dipstick is still in the stock position, if I am not mistaken. I had to bend mine to install my turbo. What did you do, how did you manage to put your turbo in with out moving the dipstick?

i have the same car where did you get your parts and did you have to get a custom down pipe made
kenron81 3 years ago

Hey man I have the same car, and i am running 5 psi on my setup, and I can't get my blow off to be that loud. What kind of blow off do you have, or what did you do to make it that loud?
leerace53080 3 years ago
i am using an hks ssqv, and i was just brake torquing it in my garage, nothing special, i am running a 16g, what kinda turbo you got?
p4286arc 3 years ago
Hey, I guess I am gonna have to get that same blow off. I am looking for a new one anyway. I have a t3/t4 turbo.
