  • This is absolutely brilliant, exactly what the nation needs to hear. Move away from prime industry it pays $13.50. Great foundation but prime industry is not the walls and roof that will keep us dry. Innovation and technology will give us more sustainability, our kids need to be engaged with this between 8 and 12. Get them thinking early, Love the korero Sir Paul

  • This is absolutely brilliant, so clear and to the point

  • Holy shit! Am I imagining things or is this actually an economic policy for New Zealand that makes sense?!

  • 100% agree.

  • Brilliant! Sir Paul for PM...

  • 3 thumbs up

  • Brilliant.

  • Every New Zealander needs to see this...

  • Brilliant!

  • Absolutely brilliant. malcolmjacobson you're so right!

  • Blimmin Brilliant. Why oh why doesn't this kinda of thinking make it into mainstream media. God damn it!

  • Well Done Sir Paul. This is the wake call that has been overdue for the mindset of where we really live. Most of us with our heads in the long white cloud!

  • Got my vote!

  • That's incredible. Every politician should watch this.

  • This was an eye opener, and truly inspiring!

  • Yay! At last a vision based upon long term sustainability rather than just short term gains.

  • Someone please send this to the Green Party.

  • Yes please. I'll vote for him.

  • Problem with this is majority of kiwis cant deal with criticisms, even when its constructive. live and learn people.

  • Paul's earlier 1hr address was broadcast on national television about 6 weeks ago. ...at 2am in the morning! In talking to many in the hi tech sector they had no idea that his former address produced about 4 years even existed. After digging around I eventually found an online copy Every politician should be featuring this video on their blog, tweet list and email signature. Thanks for posting this as we will drive more traffic to this video. Only a informed industry can increase NZ's wealth,

  • Wow - astounding. A great presso. Non of politicos could come up with such depth, insight and realism.

  • worthy of New Zealander of the year for sure

  • But I can't agree that the only thing that makes New Zealand a place where talent wants to live is a pretty lake. It definitely helps, but I think what talent really wants is opportunity to shine. The unfortunate thing about New Zealand is that that rare talent and ambition is neither valued nor recognised and is either chopped down tall poppy style, or packs off to London, Sydney, Singapore or NYC with little incentive to return.

We can change what we value, but it's a deep cultural change.

  • Really great insight, but how do we get the leaders and the followers and the inspirational individuals who will make this change happen, to see it and believe it and commit to being that change?

I agree entirely with the vision to make NZ a place where talent wants to live. I was just talking to an advertising colleague here in London yesterday about how some of the best creative agencies in the world have emerged out of places like Boulder, Colorado, and Portland, Oregon.

  • Outstanding, concise and to the point. Make this compulsory viewing for all government departments.

  • Or make him a top advisor?

  • Just Wow. I'm studying biotech, and I still agree with him.

  • Can someone please make this man Prime Minister?

  • Great presentation. Really amazing to hear someone address our national myths in a way that is so filled with promise for the future. Good on ya sir.

  • A very good summary of the self-limiting economic factors confronting NZers. The solution is straight Peter Drucker. We need "not to do things right, but to find the right things to do".And,I'll add something of my own.Kiwis are truly egregious! The only group of people hated more than economic successes are failures. We need to learn to love both, especially the latter because "finding the right things to do" is a high-waste strategy.

  • This should be compulsory viewing for anyone in NZ in politics.

  • What an awesome presentation!... If only we had 10 more kiwis that can think and speak like that.... I don’t think it would be very long before we got those 100 kiwi companies.

  • This will be compulsory viewing for my students of Innovation & Entrepreneurship at Unitec this Thursday! .... I recommend this video to all science, business, and maths teachers.

  • what an excellent video, I am sending to everyone I know... as an Ex-pat myself I can relate to so many of the points made in this presentation! Time for change NZ, if Foot & Mouth disease ever surfaces again, you are screwed... An increased investment in R&D will be a good start!

  • It was an honour to be taught by this man. I just hope the decision makers finally listen to people with wisdom such as Sir Paul.

  • an excerpt from the book. START-UP NATION addresses the trillion dollar question:

How is it that Israel has, per person, attracted over twice as much venture capital

investment as the US and thirty times more than Europe?

  • What clarity and openess to a real opportunity for the future NZ! To add to Sir Pauls presentation at about 10:27 or so his slide relating to Govt & Private investment in R&D related to the Knowledge Economy is proven to be true.... have aloo who's at the top... ISRAEL.

Search this article on Youtube. Israel: A Leader in Business Innovation

What Sir Paul suggests is the path that Israel has already traveled and prospered from. Great book by the way. Startup Nation.

  • amazing speaker, the most inspiring thing I've seen in years. Sharing everywhere I can now :)

  • talk about misconceptions!!

time to wake up, rethink, and move forward
