How much does this cost the taxpayer? Have they had any deaths or crashes related to this entertainment? I would like to recommend that they have a video of this to entertiain the crowd or have the crowd pay for the entertainment rather than the taxpayers paying for it.
@vanwahlgren You sound like a tight laced boring snore. Loosen up; we blow trillions on other countries for shit we never see. What's a few million bucks for some good old fashoned fun. Relax a bit brother. Life is short, and no one gets out alive.
@vanwahlgren if the tax payers have a problem with where their money is going, maybe they should go out and see the show :) these shows have their purpose (not dogging you, just saying.)
I know that the Air Force has the C-17 Globemaster but I would love to see the C-17 replace the C-130 as the support plane for the Blue Angels. Am I the only one who thinks that this would be totally awesome? They can still call it Fat Albert.
@chubbypekingnese Uh, Yeah! The newer variant of the C-130 is the "Super-J" and it will out perform the C-17 for its mission.. that is Cargo. The "J" has the stretch of the fuselage, fore and aft of the wing roots, also newly designed Turbo-Prop powerplants, and best of all, totally new cockpit, fully adorned with avionics package.. truly a beast of burden, since 1951 first flown. Excellance, par non.
@Orangebike666 Fat Albert is not an AC-130. That would be the ground attack variant of the C-130 cargo plane. The Blue Angels have more need for someone to carry equipment than to obliterate the airports they visit to put on shows, so an AC-130 would be a pretty useless support plane. :p That having been said, all C-130s and variants can be equipped with JATOs, but it's capable of some impressively short takeoffs even without them, so they're pretty much just for show.
Lmfao That looks like fun I have to ask the pilots in our C-130's at Youngstown-Vienna 051 ARS Squadron for Civil Air Patrol to let us do that. I would definitely do that! Would be really intense though...
@rushforce33 I love that place. I was there as a tourist because I'm too young to join the Navy, but my time will come when I'm 18. There's a family friend of ours that lives on the beach and every Sunday the Blue Angels fly right over their house on their way to NAS Pensacola.
IT IS dude, I mean I haven't flown the Blue Angels "Fat Albert" Haha that looks fun, but I actually flew in one yesterday since I signed up for Civil Air Patrol. Imagine riding in a passenger air craft, with propellers for one. That is the big thing in C-130's those propellers are deafening! You can't hear someone talking 2ft from you when the plane is in motion. We had to wear ear plugs and its a bumpy ride too XD
The Blue Angels are a joint command involving both Navy and Marine Corps elements - the C-130 is operated by the Marine Corps for the purpose of supporting the Team, and to provide the opening of the Blue Angels demonstration. Also note that there are two Marine Corps F/A-18 Hornet pilots performing in the six-jet demo now. Best regards!
sadly they no longer do JATO take off demo's due to a very low supply of JATO rockets....too bad I never got to see a JATO demo

you think this is extreme? search for the YMC-130H. it was designed to take off and land inside of a soccer stadium.

@IncredibleWorldViews Try one Marine F/A-18 pilot, and normally one of the Solo Pilots (5 or 6).

Besides, the Marines are part of the Navy - not a separate service like the Army and Air Force.
