Torri really should have won Gold in this Olympic Event; it's a sad shame she thought she'd false started and paused. Look at how easily she ran this 10.77 while jogging across the finish line. Man, I really wish she had the discipline to run well under pressure of these huge meets.
some dude at my school went to HHC which is like this meet against other schools and he said a girl sprinted a 100 in 10.3 seconds. i find that hard to believe.
@butler372 hey why not? let's implant motorized joints in their hips and knees. That should be fun too. Maybe we can supercharge their neurosystem with electromagnetic implses in their heads? More fun right? Let's keep artifically deforming what was once human until the sport can no longer be called "woman's track" and must now be called speed thing. Where rail guns and rocket propulsion rule the day. I like your thinking.
Torri Edwards has always had the components for a sub 10.80 race: her starts are amazing (exhibited here, but also in the 2003 Paris World Championship final), and she's generally a good finisher. I think it's safe to compare her to Asafa Powell, because Torri has the tendency of tightening up or "not running her own race" when it counts.
Exactly! Torri Edwards has huge muscles, explodes out of the blocks, her form is great, and no one can deny her speed.
She is her own problem. It seems she hasn't learn the secret to running relaxed. When relaxed, she burns the track. When tense, folks who have no business beating her do. She's getting old (for track) and I really hope she can pull it together the next four years and finally win a title she's been deserving for a while.
She's doping again! How can she just suddenly come out with 10.77 in the semi-final of the American championships when she's barely run below 11 seconds in her entire career.
She wasn't doping in the past. And the dope she was accused of using, was taken off the list anyhow. The girl is fast and strong as hell...I personally think she needs better coaching and a shrink. She cannot relax to save her life. I think we'll see amazing times from TE once she learns to relax more.
GUEST what flojos time is in the record books and it aint going anywhere she was tested then and nothing ever came up get over it i didnt even realize she was in this race. lets focus on the women that will be representing this conuntry in September and lets give them the benefit that they are competting cleanly until evidence, EVIDENCE not speculations say differnt eveytime a women dips under 10.8 we question there intergrity that's so sad these women work hard the work ethic is like no other
I agree that we should be proud of their accomplishments, but you have stated a non sequitur: these women work hard BECAUSE they have the drugs that allow them to do so. I am not degrading them, but to win at this level, drugs are coletely necesssary.
What are you talking about? Not everyone has to take drugs to run this fast. #1 you have to have the physical ability to run fast period. Either you're a sprinter naturally or you're not. #2 you have to train, eat healthy, maintain lean muscle and little fat. I used to run track so I know what I'm talking about.
Yeah well, I'm sure you ran at a world class level too. If you think you can be a good sprinter if you stick to your two rules, it just shows how very little you know.
I didn't say I was. Your " I used to run track so I know what I'm talking about" makes it sound like you're an expert but the things you write is really not how to be an elite sprinter. It's way harder than you seem to understand.
I'm not saying that I know how to become a world class sprinter and that's the difference between you and me. I'm also into track and field, but at least I'm smart enough to understand that I actually don't know what it takes to compete at such a high level. It takes a lot more than what you're writing and I just pointed that out.
look people! this is the olympic trials, this event has bin the main focus all season with the coaches insuring that evry1 peaks at the trials so the fastest tyms of the season will be here and at the olympics. Times this year are incredible because its an olympic year and the new generation are getting faster. Thats it! U peepz need to stop the pessimissity! Robles recently said that the level has risen which called for him to up his game or get left behind. What would you opt for? (rhetorical)
it's incredible the PB of torri is 10:93 but now she just run to easy i mean 10:77 it's like all of a sudden because this year competting with veronica was around the 10:90 but now i think theirs doping like marion jones
no that is not tru flojo had did not jump from a 10.9 to a 10.49 she had several races in the 10.6-10.8 range before she hit the 10.49 just some of the race times weren't offical and why do people speculate so much over someone whose dead anyway
Yes she did have serveral races.. but That record shouldn't be in the books... its not real.. and it was more than wind aiding in the factor of the record... and it was speculation way before she died..
There's a huge difference between running 10.49 as a woman and 9.72 as a man. This years world leading time in the women's 100 is the best in four years but still .29 seconds off the world record. That's like 10.01 in the men's 100. Bolt has run a time that can be run without taking steroids, flojo's 10.49 is clearly not.
well no one is near the mens 400m and the mens 200m record so what are you trying to say about Johnson, that he was cheating as well. Either way you put it Flo Jo was quick and even if she was on steroids she still was good, look at Marion jones she was on roids where is her records nobody clean or not has been able to take any of her records or come close so that says something about her.
Umm... Wariner is .27 seconds away from the record in the 400 and Gay is .29 seconds away from the 200.
Of course flojo would have been a really good sprinter even without the steroids. Jones also took drugs but not even close to as much as flojo did. That's why one of them is alive today and one isn't. Noone has come close to the world record because flojo took so much steroids but, fortunately, she showed the world that every shortcut has a prize.
Actually tyson is .30 away from the record he had ran a 19.62 and the record is 19.32 which is not a little difference and Wariner is .32 away his best was like 43.50 and johnson record is 43.18. Flo jos death had nothing to do with steroids you should read up on that, she had a seizure in her sleep which led her to suffocate in her pillow. How do you figure how much steroids Marion jones took was less then the amount that Flo jo so called took, your just speculating
My bad about Tyson's time, but Wariner ran a 43.45 to defend his world title in Osaka. Flojo had a heart twice the normal size when she died, and to die at such a young age is typical for people who has used steroids. If Jones didn't run as fast as flojo did even though she took steroids that really says something about how much flojo must have taken. No woman kan run a 10.49 and still be clean. In 1987 she ran 10.96 and the year after the world record. That's just ridicolous.
FloJo ran upper 10's without training! Look at her coach; Kersey. The same guy training Allyson Felix, JJK, and many other world class athletes. It was also stated that Flo-Jo was training extensively prior to the Olympic. Alas, she officially died of a suffocation during a seizure; one of many she's had & was determined an ailment with which she was BORN. Alas, no steroids were found during her autopsy.
And where have you got that information from? It's not true one bit and to train harder doesn't make your voice an octave lower. No woman can go faster than maybe 10.70 (Christine Arron, 10.73, for example, the real world record) in the 100 and everything below that is clearly a result of steroids. It's so obvious that flojo wasn't clean and I really can't understand how anyone with half a brain can fool themselves into believing that her record came due to hard training.
You clearly need to do more research! I've run a long time. Although I agree FloJo's results were unheard of, have you seen another person accused of doping that achieved her results or anywhere near?!? NO Also, U must understand that untrained talent can receive amazing results very quickly. Trained talent, once peak is reached, receives minimal results after a long period of time. My point is her dramatic results after finally training are realistic improvements!
You're just prooving my point. It's not an achievable record for anyone who's competed after flojo. Not even Marion Jones came close really and to say that she wasn't talented to start with is just wrong. Either flojo took steroids or she was a man. Since contols were introduced in the 1960s I guess the only explanation is the first alternative. She stopped competing beacuse of the harder drug controls and laws that were introduced in 89 and she knew they would reveal her little "secret".
I look a FloJo and Ben Johnson in the same light. They both competed in the 88 Olympics and barely made a splash. I think FloJo got silver in the 200. Four years later, they are both massive in muscle and are not just breaking records, but shattering them.
you mean 1984, but Flo Jo was on the national scene for quite awhile. and, was cheated of several wins by german athletes on drugs (which has been documented).
Thank you for the Olympic year correction. Yes, Flo-"Joe" had been on the scene for a while before her greatest success. But that is my point exactly. In terms of her times, she came out of nowhere and started shattering records. Then, while at the tip-top of her career, she retired. Hmmm...very suspicious.
@thesprintmaster If you can find videos on YouTube for FloJoes '88 Olympics, then compare them to her '92 Olympics, you will see a noticeable bulking up on her part.
@thesprintmaster her body most definately changed from the "84" games in LA when she was a 200M specialist and silver medal winner that year. She wasn't even on the radar screen in the 100M in "84". She got her doors blown off by gold medalist Valerie Briscoe-Hooks and all of sudden she emerges in 88 as the 100M, 200M favorite and had even talked about doing the 400M because she was doing that in the low 50's. Doesn't that seem a little strange to you?
When I was young and first started training (middle school), my 100M time went down over 2.5 seconds in just a few months. This is not common in athletes who've trained hard and already reached their peak. However, again, if one hasn't really trained and is running on natural talent, once fully trained, tons of time usually gets shaved off. Also, How much have you heard about her voice? It sounded the same, and she was still thin, although ripped, like every other sprinter!
Yes, when you STARTED training. Noone can get to the top without training and even though flojo had talent it's just not possible for a human to run that fast untrained, especially not a woman. Just listen to her interview after her 10.49 and it becomes quite obvious that her voice isn't that of a "normal" woman.
You really do not know what is possible. Also, her voice sounded pretty normal to me, the few times I've heard it. Would you please show me some clips or something of where her voice was not what you consider normal for a woman? I have a sister with an extremely deep voice, and she's never done a single drug. I wanna see where you have a clip of her with a high voice, then a very deep voice, to validate your claim. I personally haven't seen such.
I'm sorry, but you're the one living in a dream world that doesn't make any sense. Training is required in order for anyone to run a sub-11 in the 100. The clips of her voice is in my language and I don't think it would make much sense to you. I was not even born when she ran those records, so I didn't record any of her interviews, even you should be clever enough to understand that.
LOL, you know so much, but, you know nothing about the sport , the voice, or training! I am a former track runner, and am a classically trained singer in an a'capella group. SO, I know MUCH about training, results, AND the voice! And, you're telling me I'm the one who doesn't get it? LOL...humor me!
Excuse me, but I've been training track and field since I was 10 and I'm really interested by the sport. You know nothing about me, yet you make assumptions about what I know and not know. I don't care what you know or what you do, but from what you're saying I can make out that you don't have a clue about training or the use of drugs in the 1980s.
